53 pass attempts to 15 rush attempts by Colts RBs today. We had five rush attempts at the half. Everyone was worried about the Colts trying to run too much. "WE're a passing team with Luck. You have to throw the ball." Yeah, well you also have to have some balance and we have none right now. We are very one dimensional and we didn't run the ball that bad today when we did hand it off. Meanwhile, look at the Browns. 29 rush attempts by their RBs to 31 pass attempts. Who traded who for their no. 1 RB again??? |

We are definitely a passing team. We just can't afford to run the ball and expect to win games. We ran the ball decent today, but not great. Also, in the fourth quarter we needed to throw to catch up. |

No excuse though for it to be 25 some pass attempts to five rush attempts at the half. Not against a team vulnerable against the run. |

I dont think it will be this out of wack going forward. I feel like we ran the ball well when we did run. |

Bent is right. We should have run more. The Browns had the #8 pass defense and the #29 rush defense. Running the ball is their achilles heel. As it was our passing game turned the ball over 4 times today and led Cleveland to almost all of their points. A more balanced running game could have controlled the clock, slowed down their pass rush, and allowed us to dictate the pace of the game. We were never in so large of a hole that we needed to go completely one dimensional to get back in the game. |

Guess I wasn't paying that close of attention to the run/pass balance. I didn't realize it was that one sided until seeing the stats here. In hindsight, we should have at least tried to run the ball more |

And lets face it, it wasn't Luck's best game. Cold conditions, receivers dropping balls, officials who let the db's play, and we still never tried to really establish the run. You need to help your qb out by running the ball. Very poor game plan on offense today, imo. "We are definitely a passing team. We just can't afford to run the ball and expect to win games." Sorry, Rev., I just can't agree with that to the extent we saw it today. We can run the ball and expect to win games. It would have helped tremendously in the first half even if it was just to eliminate the pressure on Luck. Edited by MrCCCs, Dec 7 2014, 06:22 PM.

Took a little while to go through and pull these. Think I have them right. On the season (pass attempts/rush attempts by Colt RBs): Wk 14 – 53/15 (Browns) Wk 13 – 27/16 (DC) Wk 12 – 32/25 (Jags) Wk 11 – 39/13 (NE) Wk 9 – 46/14 (NYG) Wk 8 – 45/7 (Pitt) Wk 7 – 27/24 (Cinc.) Wk 6 – 44/28 (Tex) Wk 5 – 49/24 (Balt) Wk 4 – 41/29 (Tenn.) Wk 3 – 39/23 (Jags) Wk 2 – 34/34 (Phil) Wk 1 – 53/9 (Denver) Probably also worth noting that the two best teams in the AFC - Indy and New England - both have strong rushing attacks and balance. If we had a viable rushing attack I would agree with you. I would like to see more non traditional running attempts like draws, pitch outs, and stretch plays. Most of our rushing attempts are classic hand off up the gut running. |

Keep Boom in the game and we might have a legit rushing attack. |

I agree we are not very imaginative in our running game. We have a more viable rushing attack than a 53 to 15 disparity against a team who struggles against the run. I didn't mind it against the Giants, who struggled against the pass. It hurt us today, and we never even gave the run game a chance to succeed. |

There was a nice little shovel/pitch back early on to Herron that probably would have went for 20+ if not for a hold being called. I think it, as well as the injuries on the line, deflated the run game a little. But when you're playing from behind, and you can't decide between a RB who can't hold on to the ball and a RB who I'm pretty sure is just a hot dog vendor dressed in a uniform and not a professional athlete, might as well just put the game on Luck's shoulders and hope for the best. |

Bent, we seem to disagree more than agree but I am in 100% agreement here. Sorry Rev, but 5 rushing attempts in the 1st half is insane when the passing game was struggling to get WR's open, protect Luck & simply catch the ball. Not to mention (as someone already has) the fact that the officials were letting the DB's get away with quite a bit. I was impressed with the Browns pass defense in general and I already knew about Haden, but their other DB (Skrine) was impressive as well. But he was getting away with mugging the Colt WR's on almost every play. The game was never out of reach. The biggest deficit was 21-7 early in the 3rd quarter. Even if the running game is ineffective, they must continue to use it more than they did to help keep the defense some what honest. I don't know how many times I saw a very week attempt at play-action yesterday. Not only were the Browns not respecting it, but Luck was not doing a very good job at selling it either. |

The O-Line MUST be addressed first and foremost in the offseason. Then worry about the middle of the defense. RB's can be found everywhere. |
