Pardon this non-football question but, I just bought my first handgun. I was a target shooter when I was a teenager but haven't fired one since I was in college. Just curious if any of you own one and what model. I'll delete the thread after I get some responses if this is out of bounds. If you don't own one then maybe you have thought about it for a long time like me....or maybe you hate guns like my wife and my kids.

I have a few various guns, Taurus 9mm, Glock 10mm,Winchester 30/30,Henry lever action 22 for target/fun shooting and couple of shotguns. My kids are grown and gone, The Taurus is really the wife's gun, She is a pretty darn good shot as well. I first got her a 380 because she is very petite, However she can handle the 9mm no problem. I really don't do much hunting anymore. We live in the country and I like the 30/30 in case coyotes come around to bother my dogs. My sis in laws dog got mauled pretty bad by coyotes a couple of years ago, It's the one drawback to living out in the country.

I bought a Walther PPX 9MM. It feels really great in my hand. I haven't fired it yet. I just figured out how to break it down. Do you use a magazine loader? I loaded a clip last night and its not as easy as I thought I'd be. I hope to enjoy target shooting again but who knows. I retired last month so I've got the time.

Headed to Retirement
No need to delete anything. I'm moving this to the Pub though since it's a non-football discussion. We should use this section of the site more often.

No I don't use a magazine loader, You will get used to your gun soon enough, Get a good cleaning kit, You can google info on proper pistol cleaning, And always be sure the gun is unloaded before you let others look at it or you decide to clean it. My ex wife's sister lost her husband because he had been drinking and decided he was going to clean his pistol, He shot himself in the abdomen and it hit the descending aorta, He bleed to death before help could arrive. Not trying to be a Debbie downer, Just a reminder that guns are very safe when handled properly, But you should never assume a gun is unloaded when handling it.
Walther builds quality guns, With proper care it should do you well. We really don't shoot the pistols much anymore to be honest, Originally bought them both for home protection, Although honestly the best gun for home protection is a good shotgun IMO.
Are you going to get licensed to carry your gun? If you live in town and want to go to a range to shot you will likely need to get a license, Although likely state laws may vary.

I have a Ruger SP101. It fires 38's as well as 357's. I target with the 38's and keep it by my bed with 158 grain HP 357's. Double action, won't ever go off accidentally...fires every time.

I bought the same gun a few months back. I really like it although I only have run 3-4 magazines worth of ammo thru it. Very accurate but a bit bulky to use as a carry gun. Only place to find a holster is thru Walther or Amazon. Side note: if you have a Rural King (Tractor Supply on steroids), they have Walther replacement mags for $25 ($50 to buy online elsewhere). Don't have a mag loader either. The new mags are very stiff but will loosen up as you use them. Enjoy!

Why do you all need handguns? American's wonder why they have approximately a bajillion more shooting deaths than any other country.
