I want a new commish. One who will listen to the empty seats. If not, then I will eventually become an an empty seat too. I find it tough to be concerned with who is playing LG when my team, the players and the owner believes disrespecting the flag and Anthem is an option when getting attention for a cause....any cause. This is important to me but most fans here don't seem to share my view. Its like a relatively obscure side show that will go away.

The NFL's situation is so much like MLB's its kinda weird. With Sammy Sosa and McGwire doing what they did in 1998 baseball was at its peak with fans. Being an American League guy I was even fascinated by it too. But, when the steroid crap hit the fan...the fans cooled on MLB in general...including me.

Now the NFL has mishandled a social injustice movement by the players. The form it took, doing this during our Anthem, isn't appreciated by a large number for the fans. The players are now aware of the fans feeling and they haven't acknowledged in a meaningful way that they understand. Owners and the Commish are skating between these two positions leaning towards the players position. I see that as a mistake. The customer is always right...especially when they are right. These protests could be done in other ways and the NFL wouldn't have taken a hit.

Fanhood is a balance between the people buying tickets and the guys play'n and manage'n the game...promises balanced against patience. My patience is gone. When I see Colts players kneeling...I see people who make so much money that they don't give a shit what their customers think or feel about how they act. When I hear owners tell me they don't have the same authority that my employer had for 40 years it makes me understand how they think...or don't think about me and this country.

Some of you probably believe this is a minor deal that will simply go away. If it does and a knot isn't jerked in this whole situation then the NFL may be on the same decline that MLB didn't enjoy.

I happen to be a HS official & before every varsity game the National Anthem is played. I proudly stand & face the flag, remove my cap & place it over my heart. I do this because I am proud of my country & out of respect for every man & woman who have ever served our country.

When this whole ordeal first began I was angry & offended. But then, as reasonable individual, I came to realize that to think that those who choose to do this should be forced otherwise is in direct conflict with what our flag stands for - Freedom.

You don't have to like it & can choose not to watch anymore, after all it is a free country.

Advanced,

I'm curious as to why you still watch the NFL (at least I assume you do) if this bothers you so much?

Well, it ain't complicated. In fact its extremely simple.

I have always loved football...playing football...watching football...telling other people about football who don't know shit about football...and I was a Colts fan since I was a puppy.

Today, I ain't trying to hate football. I ain't wanting to dislike football players and coaches or management who are associated with my team. BUT, something is happening that has caused me to FEEL differently. I wish I could be like you and compartmentalize better. I guess I'm not good at that.

I will watch this Sunday. I want them to pile up the losses for a better draft position. I hope by April I will still care. I did try to dump my NFL Ticket but after a long conversation with them they weren't clear about my other channels...the lady claimed I'd lose some premium channels if I dropped the Ticket. My wife objected. Dropping the Ticket isn't as much a protest as it is an economic thing. It ain't worth it.

The NFLs ratings are not down because players are kneeling for the national anthem. People can keep thinking that if it makes them feel better though I guess.
Maybe in your frozen-canadien mind. I've had Sunday Ticket since 1999 and cancelled this year. Haven't watched one game but "was" a hard core Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Saturday (at season end) watcher, no matter who played. If I completely stopped watching, a career Navy man, and half full stadiums aren't an indication you're wrong, you ain't that bright. But you are in Canada and probably don't understand what being American means and what respect for flag, anthem and country means, since your dude is bringing in all the muslim extremists.

Don't dog my country dude. You have no idea.

We don't need the insults. This thread has more than run it's course, so I'm moving it to the pub and closing it.
