242 years ago today 56 men representing each of the 13 colonies signed their name to the Declaration of Independence agreeing to “mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor,” in defense of the new nation they had just created by shaking off the chains of tyranny of the English Empire. The nation they created went on to become a Beacon of Freedom and the citizens of this great nation have, through the years, been at the forefront of great inventions and at the front of the battle lines defending the world from evil. We have not been perfect and still have our flaws, but through it all the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth and I am proud to say I am an American. Happy Independence Day and may God forever bless these United States of America! As we celebrate with family and friends this 4th of July, let us remember the freedom we enjoy comes with a cost. American freedom came at the sacrifice of American soldiers and patriots. |
