With all the talk about Junior Seau's death, this question has come up on almost every sports talk show, especially after Kurt Warner The Dan Patrick Show and said:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/03/kurt-warner-would-prefer-his-sons-not-play-football/ So, the poll question is this: |

Hope they don't have bounties in youth football. That would be a pretty intense sports dad. |

After High school? It would depend on his size. But both my sons are their own men, the choice is up to them. |

After reading so much stuff of late about how former NFL players are broke and directionless in life, it doesn't seem that football is a good career choice. IMO, guys should not be able to play pro football without a college degree. I know that is impossible, and is maybe a crazy idea, but so many of these guys seem to enter the NFL without a clue about many, many things. Edited by Coltny, Jun 5 2012, 10:25 AM.

Even a degree isn't enough for some because they don't have the work ethic to make use of it. Let's make no mistake though. There are plenty of players who stay relatively healthy and wealthy. That pro football players tend to die younger than you're average individual has been common knowledge going back at least a couple of decades now. |

At that young age it wouldn't be important to play, once he hit his teen years would be different but either way it would be up to the boy if he wanted to or not. |

6-9 seems a little young to me now to start playing, but I guess we played full contact, no pads, backyard ball at that age, and I'd say it still happens today. ..Organized football with pads is a much safer alternative to this of course. Is there a risk for an injury? Sure, but you can say the same thing about letting a kid ride a bicycle. ... I've met people who won't let their kids play football for fear of them getting hurt, yet they let em ride a dirt bike, and think nothing of it........I do not have a son, but my reply echos subvet and warhorse, if they want to play fine. If not fine. |
