Ross was put in a bad situation; being forced to block a LB is a bad matchup. Folks are going to get used to Luck throwing what appears to be picks and end up as completions; he not afraid to make aggressive throws. Harbaugh got used to it; everyone else will. Luck's ability to see what defense is doing and adjust is amazing. His ability to get rid of the ball And make everyone better even as a rookie. He sells the play action with best of them. He did lock onto Reggie on the pick 6 however, but that will coached up. His mental toughness even after the second pick would have frustrated a lot vet QBs. His memory is as long as Johnny U's; it lasts about 30 sec's.

Ross' effort on the play was a bit soft, it seemed. However McAfee did step directly toward the oncoming rusher. The pick 6 was a throw that Luck had been 'lucky' on a couple of times before when it could have been picked but he threw it high and outside. This time he didn't have enough on the ball and didn't throw it as well. Two plays that impressed me about Luck: The hot read to Fleenor. The poise in the pocket in the face of a blitz because he KNEW they had it picked up. That was incredible for a rookie. |

Marcus Washington, Phillip Wheeler and Jerry Hughes were all bad matches for the 43 defense and worse for Hughes since he was asked to play a different position as well. Glad he is getting a chance at his natural position. I was impressed with this sack he fought thru multiple guys. |

Well not gonna say what Harnish and Stanton can do as starters. Sanchez could be the next Rick Mirer and Tebow is ok for the wild cat, but if your running the wild cat you don't have a starter. It's just admitting it without actually saying it. |

The pick six gets all the attention from the media, but he hadn't looked all that bad prior to it, and looked sensational afterward. |

Guys, Jerry Hughes was a DE in a predominantly 4-3 defensive scheme in college. He was not a LB in a 3-4. I think his speed and skills are just better suited to this scheme at the pro-level. It was a bad pick by the Polians because they did a poor job of evaluating his talent. It wasn't because they asked him to do something different. Yeah, I just found that out the other day. Hughes was doing an interview and said that this is the first time he's played OLB in a 3-4. I swore that's what he played in college, but no. |

Thought our Oline looked markedly better than it has in preseasons past, when most of us begged for the coaching staff to pull PM before he got killed, then watched our backup qbs get beaten senseless, and our rbs stuffed in the backfield. I think it has to be a combination of the personnel (a little less brainy perhaps, a little more brawny) and the system. Thought rbs Brown and Ballard continued to impress behind the line, which actually allows them to hit a hole. Was even more impressed with Luck than in the first game, against the Rams sieve D. People see 2 picks, I saw a rookie qb who took us into halftime with a lead. Even if it's preseason, it was the Steelers starting D, in Pittsburgh.Annoying but expected observation: how every media person that talked to Luck after the game focused first and foremost on the two picks. Great thing about Luck: unlike the media, he moves on. Great job. Funny, with the Manning comparisons: I think Luck is more like Eli Manning in terms of demeanour, combined with Peyton's study habits and attention to detail. I think it's the best of both worlds in that respect. Saw some young WRs with potential, but saw a great young WR leave, perhaps for the last time. Collie's head concerns make me believe all the more that we should draft a WR in rd 1 next year...unless a beast NT is available, as the middle of our Dline definitely needs that rare player if available. Our defence is behind our offence right now, as they too are learning a new system. We actually have a couple of legitimate returners. |

Not good news, but that he is feeling well is encouraging, so is the news about Mathis and Redding. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/nfl-rapidreports/19853272/colts-injury-update-collie-suffers-another-concussion |

I would have to agree with your comment about Luck's behavior being more like Eli's than Peyton's. For that I am greatful. After an interception for instance, Peyton always looked so dejected/deflated coming off of the field. I don't think he had the "amnesia factor" going for hiim as much as Luck does. That's one thing I do like better about Luck than Manning. |

Good post. It is hard not to compare Luck with Manning, but it is a bit unfair to both of them to do so. We're only two games into Luck's career so we can only guess how everything will work for him. But early indications are great. I'm not sure how we can complain about Peyton's demeanor on or off-field. He didn't forget interceptions, he used them to get better. With the o-line I believe a different scheme is helping more than we realize. They actually are coached to push forward and not run horizontally. That's not to say that the talent isn't better, because it is. With Reitz and Castonzo both having a year under their belt, Satele replacing Saturday, and having a revamped right side is obviously helping us out. |

Huzzahs all around then. Huzzah! PS - I also think the reporters were reading too much into PM's picks. He looked pretty fricking good too, and I expect will light it up come reg season. One aspect of our former O's play I won't miss was the propensirt to rush to the line in goalline situations, hoping to run it in due to the defence not being ready. It usually failed. I don't think we'll be seeing that, and I won't miss it. The new O is certainly looking to be more authoritative running the football, scheme wise and personnel wise, and I love it. |
