Quote:

1. Ryan Clady
2. Jairus Byrd
3. Victor Cruz (Restricted)
4. Andre Smith
5. Dwayne Bowe
6. Henry Melton
7. Greg Jennings
8. Wes Welker
9. Andy Levitre
10. Joe Flacco

Some of these guys are bound to get franchised (Clady, Smith, and Flacco for sure).
Big year for wide receivers. If we could land Bowe or Jennings, that would be monstrous.

EDIT: Just throwing this into the first post after I combined the topics. -IC45

I'm beginning to think that the focus in FA should be on landing a real good CB and multiple O-Linemen. These guys are just too hard to find in the draft for the most part.
Would love to add a BIG target at WR for this offense, but that could come from the draft.
Same with the LB position, Safety and the RB position.

The Vikings are shopping Percy Harvin.

Great talent, but fragile and soon to be expensive. Great fit for the Niners, not us.

I tend to agree. As much of a playmaker as Harvin is, he's also a headache. I hear Belichick loves him, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in NE.

Belichick loves him those Florida boys... Doubt they could hold on to Welker if they made that move, though.

This is probably a more reasonable safety target for us than Ed Reed.

Wilson and Moore make more sense than Reed, because they both play S.S.
With that said, adding at least one more quality C.B. is far more important at this time.
Sean Smith is a nice player who would add SIZE to the equation.

Are you talking about a Davis/Smith reunion?

I could see it happening. And I'm sure Davis will put in a good word for us. That might have been Grigs plan all along, trading for Davis last year, hoping to get them both together in Indy this year...

It could also backfire, though. Wouldn't want the two of them getting big headed, knowing they have a history together not relating to our team. If that makes sense. Just reminds me of working with a couple of my buddies at a grocery store when I was in H.S. Management always made sure to schedule us for different times, or else we'd goof around all day and do a crappy job...

Well as long as they don't have the mindset of a 16 year old bag boy, I think we'd be ok.

I know. It might be a stretch.

I advise they not get stoned before going to work, too...

Actually, didn't Davis test positive for pot?

The more I think about it, the more we sound alike...

Hopefully we've ALL grown up...

Elway said that Ryan Clady will receive the franchise tag.

Figured.

We'd have to invest way too much into him anyways... Same with Byrd...

Peyton Hillis, anyone?

Peyton Hillis had 1 good season and then disappeared. I don't know how legitimate he is as an actual talent. Although if he could play a fullback hybrid role...

I would pay a guy like Clady though. Looks like Philly isn't using the tag on DRC, he could be a nice option if he doesn't try to break the bank

I'd like to add a good short yardage RB/FB that can get the tough yards between the Tackles, as opposed to a Reggie Bush-type. The kid from Stanford would be a great fit. Not sure if he lasts until round 3.

I feel like we've already got 2 of those kinds of backs on the roster already in Ballard and Carter. What we don't have is a speedy back who can go the distance any time he touches the ball and gives us mismatches catching the ball out of the backfield. I only want a big back if he's an every down difference maker who's going to take the lead back role. Otherwise, I'd like to see us get a back who gives us new options like Donald Brown was supposed to have done if he could stay on the field or catch.
Mike Wallace is reported to be the number 1 target of the dolphins. They are going hard after him. Also Stephen Jackson has stated that he'd like to remain with the Rams and the Fisher has stated he would like to keep Jackson. There's a chance he ends up staying in St Louis.

Also, the salary cap purging has begun.

Checking out the FA trackers I noticed FIVE CB's, drafted in the 1st round of the 2008 draft, who should be available.

Leodis McKelvin (11th)
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (16th)
Aqib Talib (20th)
Mike Jenkins (25th)
Antoine Cason (27th)

Tracy Porter (40th that year) should also be available.

With our cap space and need at CB, our chances of going after and/or getting one of these guys must be pretty high, right? At least simple math seems to indicate it...

If they wanted Jenkins before, and they still want a FA CB, perhaps they still have interest. If he arrives in Indy, I hope that he brings Spencer with him.

Despite the obvious knocks, Jenkins does have talent. As does Talib. I've always been a fan of Porter. Either of the 3 would be a major upgrade. If we could land Vollmer and one of these 3, it's huge upgrade time. I can see Spencer getting franchised, along with Clady.
I wonder if Barwin is on the radar?

Titans signed S George Wilson today, so he's officially out of the running for us. I think seeing how we handle safety is going to be interesting this year. I know a lot of people are harping on corner, but there is just an abundance of good corners available through both free agency and the draft. I think I'm more curious about positions like safety where we clearly need an upgrade but there aren't as obvious of front runners for it.

As far as Spencer and and Vollmer go, The Cowboys can't afford to franchise Spencer for a second straight year. They also probably can't afford to sign him to a long term deal, because of their cap situation. I'm sure they'll try, but I doubt he ends up back there. Word on Vollmer is that he's one of the Pats primary targets to be resigned. His future is murky though, because of injury concerns. He's had knee surgery since the season ended and has had back problems in the past. His play warrants top end money, but he's a risky proposition because of his health. I still think the Pats go hard after him, but he would definitely be an upgrade for us. I wonder what he'd cost though.

Clady has already been tagged, so he's off the market. I think Jenkins could be a solid pick up for us, if he can be had for a reasonable price. His recent injury history scares me a little, especially with so many choices at CB.

Didn't know about Spencer's previous tag. With all of Vollmer's ailments, he missed just one game last year. I think that 4/36m might get it done. It's very possible to find a good Safety in round 3-4. Much easier than finding quality C.B.'s. Wonder if KC tags Bowe?

Rumor has it that Andy Reid and the new KC regime wants to keep Bowe and will tag him if they can't work out a long term deal first.

Also, it's being reported that Miami has at least opened negotiations with Reggie Bush about coming back.

Brady just signed a 3 year, 27 million dollar extension that will take him through 2017(age 40). It provides the pats 5 or 6 million in immediate cap relief this year(and 15 million over the next 2 years), which means they will probably have a lot more leverage to keep Vollmer and maybe Welker if they are so inclined.

Good on Tom. For all the flack he receives, that's a great "teammate" type move.
Jenkins would be a no for me. He's 32 and we've just got rid of a bunch of aging players the last two years. Why undo that now?
