DE - Florida State Seen this guy compared to Paul Kruger and JJ Watt. I'm liking that, at least. Edited by IndyColt45, Apr 25 2013, 10:56 PM.

His highlight reel is certainly impressive. If he can play like that for us, it will be good. I guess the trend of drafting people we never heard of continues. @BjoernWernerFSU if you want to follow him on Twitter. |

Third round? He was a first round pick in nearly every mock draft. |

Stronger than he looks, a little stiff. Seems slower than he really is, but seems to move well in a deceptive sort of way. Seems to let up at times before the play is over. FSU played him all over it seems. And this is based off of over 4 minutes of watching game footage, so you know I can't be wrong. I was hoping for Floyd, but this may end up being a pick that provides results over the long haul. |

OLB, either/both side(s) Looks like he might be in line to start opposite Mathis? Edited by DarkHorseColts, Apr 26 2013, 12:14 AM.

With the big bodies we have up front now, he and Mathis should have some freedom to move around. |

He is a 2 down non athletic tweener in a 3-4. Getting a 2 down player in the 1st is bad drafting. We could of finally had the disruptive inside push the Colts have lacked for so very long with Floyd by just moving up a couple. Werner drafted between Floyd and Rhodes why how ironic. Excuse me now I have to go pull for Werner like mad.

He actually looks like he plays well in space. Tackling seemed pretty solid. I dont see why he couldnt be an every down LBer. |

I dont think he will just be a 2 down player....in fact Pags said he can foresee him lining up opposite Mathis on 3rd downs. I like the pick....... |

Exactly. This was a value pick, likely because they couldn't trade down. Started as a top 10, but popped-up everywhere after the combine. I think many at least figured mid first... I'm ok with the pick. But it's mainly because of that value and versatility. Don't know if he'll be a star, but he's versatile enough to at least help. Questions: He was part of a pretty good defense, and did great in it himself, but did the rest of the team benefit off him or vice versa? Also, is it pronounced Werner with the "V" sound at the beginning? Because that'd be pretty cool... |

some copy and pastes' from mock drafts around the web about Werner. Peter Schrager 14. Carolina Panthers: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State The Panthers would be more than happy to see Werner drop all the way down to No. 14. A 6-4 pass rusher with exceptional quickness and strength, he didn’t "wow" in Indianapolis, but shouldn’t slip out of the top 20. His 13 sacks led the ACC in 2012 and he left Tallahassee as the NCAA active leader in sacks with 23.5. Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson already provide some pop from the edges in Carolina. Werner would be a wonderful addition at defensive end. Mayock Pick No. 28 DEN Bjoern Werner DE Florida St. What I like about this kid is he does everything well. I don't see one spectacular physical trait, but he does everything well. From my perspective, the Broncos had better plug him in there, because they lost a lot of sack value when they lost Elvis Dumervil. Banks Pick No. 22 Bjoern Werner PFT 30. Falcons: Bjeorn Werner, defensive end, Florida State. He fell to us for some, we reached for others. I trust Grigson, though so, I like the pick. |

With all of the trades, I don't see where we had an opportunity to trade down, maybe with the Vikings but they'd just picked and were scrambling so we might not have had a chance to talk to them. |

I don't necessarily dislike the pick, but I would have preferred Datone Jones. I think he has more athleticism and a bigger upside. From the little I know, I thought Jones could start immediately if need be but I think it could take Werner a year or two to get used the game speed. This is solely an opinion of mine, but I do not make the big bucks to get these types of decisions correct like Grigs does. |

How were we going to move up a couple? The Falcons traded to move up to 22 to take Trufant and the Bengals wanted Eifert with 21. It would have required us to give up a lot just to move up two to three spaces. Probably all of our remaining picks, or a first next year. Floyd wouldn't be worth that. It's not that easy to move up and there is a reason he fell as far as he did. |

Grigson said after the draft that Werner was their number 1 target. He said they didn't even consider trading down when he was still on the board. That after they saw the Vikings pick, it was immediately high fives and smiles. He also said that sometimes you hope guys don't do as well at the combine so that people overreact to their numbers and let them slip. |

So that would indicate that we didn't want Floyd at all anyway. Now that could be posturing but I think Grigs is telling the truth here. Also Bent, you can't say it would have cost us a first next year or all our picks just to move up 2 spots. The 49ers moved from 31 to 18 and just gave up a 3rd rounder. Not saying we should have traded up, but clearly we could have moved to 18 from 24 without giving up too much. |

I love watching portions of the combine workouts, but I really think that alot of people get awfully jaded by it.I think that Floyd is quite possibly the steal of the draft in terms of VALUE, but is probably much better suited for a Tampa-2 team like the Vikes. As for a guy like Datone Jones, he's a pure D.E. Werner's value lies in projected versatility and production in college. The guy was a top-5-10 pick until players started showcasing in shorts. I got another question. What number do we give him? I say 99. I wanna be able to say "99" and follow it with "Luftballons". For example: "99 (Luftballons) goes by his blocker for the tackle and the loss!" /Sorry //It was just on the radio. Couldn't help myself... |

I was also thinking 99. Mookie is gone, and it just seems like the right # for a Kruger-esque pup. |

Exactly. And Mike should know up there because the Lions were supposedly thinking of taking him at one time. It's not just the combine that plays into it, though. Or at least the workout part. The interviews and private workouts play a part, too. Maybe some thought Werner would have too much of a language gap and they didn't want to deal with it. Who knows? (Just throwing that out there.) I guess Jean-Francois has it. That can change, though. Edited by BlueKoolaid, Apr 26 2013, 11:43 AM.
