The estate of Thomas Masterson was pristine condition for the arrival of his guest, Mr. Jack Froster, leader of the Capitalist Whig Party. His staff laid out some of the finest and freshest seafoods and liquors on the dining hall table. Everything was in perfect order as Thomas awaited on his front porch for Jack Frosters escort to arrive.

Mr. Froster's carriage arrives at Beauvoir as the sun is near the horizon. Mr. Froster exits his carriage and walks up the front steps. "President Masterson, I presume?" he says to the gentlemen sitting on the porch. "Sorry to have kept you waiting, I had a personal matter that needed quick attention. Now I believe we have some business to discuss."

Thomas ushered Mr. Foster into the dining hall. The scent of fresh seafood and side dishes filled the entire home with a mixed aroma of seasoned goods. Thomas directed Jack to sit across the table from him. Servers came and delivered cold iced tea, water, and a selection of liquors to choose from. Thomas placed his napkin into his lap as he pulled a glass of scotch and a water from the beverage tray.

"Mr. Froster, you're a smart man, so I need not bedazzle you with fancy linguistics. I'll get straight to the point." Thomas sipped his scotch. "Both mine and your political parties have very common interests. And one of those interests is the preservation of our region as we know it. I find that strength is better in numbers." Thomas leaned back in his chair as a first course of food was presented before the men, a delicious bowl of seafood gumbo in a brown gravy. Thomas took a spoon fool before continuing.

"It's because of this drive to preservation, I think it is necessary that one must consider a merger of parties of sorts, between the Democratic-Republicans, and the Capitalists Whigs. What say you, Mr. Froster?"

The gumbo had a unique flavor to it, unlike anything Mr. Froster had tasted in Reykjavik.

"Mr. President this food is outstanding! Perhaps before I depart I could get the recipe for my wife, I have no doubts she would love it. As for the business at hand, I certainly agree that there is strength in numbers, and I recognize several values our parties share. My only concern comes from some of the economic troubles in your party members' nations. As you can see from our reputation, a strong focus of our nations is our commerce. Would you and your party members be willing to consider our approach to business and trade? If so I believe we can come to an agreement on merging."

Mr. Froster took another bite of his gumbo and awaited the President's response.

Thomas flashed a small grin before exhaling a light chuckle. "Sorry, Mr. Froster, old family recipe... But I suppose come next Head of Nations I could bring a few pots in for the banquet." A server approached the table and refilled both of their glasses with more iced tea. Sugar was on the table in a bowl, but Thomas preferred his tea unsweetened. He took a sip from his refreshed glass as he continued to listen to Jack.

Putting his glass down and switching back to his fork to indulge in the hot jambalaya dish. He took a quick bite as Jack finished his sentence, he placed his fork down wiping away bits from his lips. "But of course, Mr. Froster. You see the Democratic-Republicans support the yeoman farmers, the laymen, the masons, the common man which keeps commerce and enterprise afloat. Without such occupations and demands we'd have no economy. It only makes sense that our parties' paths cross at this point in addition to several other advantages that both parties support." Thomas took another sip of his tea before continuing.

"We must continue supporting commerce, the private sector, and the freedom to conduct free market enterprise. I couldn't see our economy being handled any other way." A staff aide briskly entered the dining hall with a piece of paper in hand. He excused his interruption as Thomas called him over. The aide briefly whispered into Thomas' ear, placing the piece of paper on the table before him. Thomas removed a fountain pen from his jacket, signing the paper and handing it back to the aide with a nod. The aide promptly excused himself and left.

"Sorry for that interruption. Running both a region and my own state certainly consumes much of my time. Though with upcoming elections I can look forward to devoting more time to my local constituents and allow the region to prosper under new administration. The region is heading in a great direction, no?" Thomas took another taste of his jambalaya and sip of tea. "So there you have it, Mr. Froster. We have very similar ideologies, and it would be wise for a merger. I'm certain now I have convinced you to agree..."

"I think we have a deal then Mr. President. I would think it best for both of our parties members if they were to see joint representation for the new party. Perhaps we could be co-chairs? Another matter of this consolidation is the name of the party. Perhaps a reasonable compromise would be to rename the party "The Jeffersonian Whigs"? Yes I think that has a nice ring to it, don't you? We shall incorporate your former party's ability to connect with the common man, and incorporate my former party's ability to put commerce first. I believe with this merger we will create the most powerful political party in all of the region. If you agree to the terms I have mentioned I shall take this new agreement to the rest of my party and put it to a vote, and if the majority decides to merge our new party will commence."

The aides removed the main dishes from the table. After a brief cleaning of the cloths and refilling of beverage, an assortment of desserts were served to the gentlemen. Pans of pecan pie, Dutch apple pie, a fluffed pound cake, and even freshly deep fried beignets topped with fine cut powdered sugar. Jack was served the house brewed chicory coffee, compliments of Thomas' private bean collection.

After taking a brief sip of his own cup of coffee, Thomas returned to the conversation. "Well now, Mr. Froster, this is where we come to a fork in the road." He took another bite of beignet and sip of coffee. "Being that the Democratic-Republicans are the oldest and original political party in the region, it would be rather hard to simply dissolve the name." Thomas stood from his seat and walked over to a small humidor sitting atop a desk in the far corner. He opened it and removed two cigars. One he placed in his mouth, biting off the tip before removing it. The other he extended towards Jack. The label read "Londres" wrapped around the mouth piece. "Fresh from Cuba. Only the best."

Thomas sat back down at his seat, lighting his cigar and spending a few puffs before looking back at Jack. "I would hope, Mr. Froster, that perhaps we could retain the name Democratic-Republicans, but I am very open to a co-chair, or some form of proper hierarchy so that you have not lost the authority you have earned. It's certainly not my intention to dethrone anyone, I just have a very sentimental attachment to names." Thomas chuckled faintly before taking another drag on his cigar.

Jack paused and approached the situation with caution; the last thing he wanted was for this agreement to go sour over a name swap. Nonetheless, he knew that for there to be equal footing a compromise would need to be made.

"Mr. President, I understand your attachment to the name of what is undoubtedly one of the most influential parties in our brief history, but please understand that a merger needs to be a 50/50 affair. If I go back to my party's members and tell them that we are merger but losing our name, I can't help but think that they will not be too pleased. I do think we can reach a compromise on this matter that will allow you to keep your party's identity, and allow my party members to see that this a mutual merger and not a takeover. Perhaps something like "The Democratic-Republican Whig Party" would suffice both our interests?"

Thomas took a long pause as he gazed down at his glass of whiskey his aide had delivered. He knew that as much as he loved his party's name, it would be foolish to pass up this opportunity of strength and unity over something so silly as a name. He grinned as he looked back up at Jack, sliding his finger around the rim of his glass. "Mr. Froster, you definitely know how to negotiate. Silly of me to worry over a name. I think the Jeffersonian Whigs will do just fine. With that being said, I do believe we've come to a full agreement, have we?"

"Then it is done Mr. Masterson! We should inform our fellow party members of the merger promptly. I look forward to the future of the Jeffersonian Whigs, and to working closely with you. With our two parties coming together, I believe we now have majority in the House. We shall give this region and It's wonderful people the representation it deserves! Now Mr. Masterson if you will excuse me, I have a Speaker of the House race I had better start preparing for. I thank you for your hospitality, and commend you on your lovely home and the dinner that was provided. I shall like to return in the future!"

The two men shook hands, and Mr. Froster put on his hat and grabbed his cane as he was escorted back to his carriage.

"Lawrence we will not be going straight to Rekjavik." Mr. Froster said to his carriage driver. "Take me to the Amero Union, I have business I need to discuss with President Brander."

Mr. Froster looked out his window at the landscape of the Florida Parishes. What a wonderful sight it was. "Sights like this make it hard to argue the existence of God!" Jack thought to himself.
