Today, a large barrage of rockets sent from Hamas strongholds in the Gaza Strip landed in southern Israel. While the Iron Dome rocket defense system shot down nearly 90% of the rockets, several landed in the city of Ashkelon, and some even as far east as Beersheba. Citizen causalities are minimal right now, with estimates ranging at between 20-40 people dead and several dozen wounded. The Israeli Defense Forces have massed at the Gaza border, with 5,000 infantry and 48 tanks awaiting the order to move in.

Major General Sami Turgeman has led his troops into the Gaza Strip in search of any Hamas cells. While the tanks and several of the infantry patrol the streets, the rest of the men are searching house to house for any sign of the terrorist group, Hamas. No causalities have yet been reported, but the operation has only just begun. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has released a statement: "Today at 9:30 PM, an operation was launched against the insurgent groups of the Gaza Strip in retaliation against the recent rocket attacks. The Prime Minister will address the nation tomorrow."

The Israeli Defense Forces are now occupying the Gaza Strip. They are still searching for some key leaders in the Hamas structural system. Following the prime minister's official statement days before, some outcry was heard from outlying Arab nations about the treatment of the Palestinians. Netanyahu wishes to assure his fellow world leaders that the Palestinian people are not in any way being harmed. Only those with ties to Hamas have been arrested. Some members of an extremely nationalistic party in Israel have been saying that it is time for the nation to claim the land which is rightfully hers and annex the Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank, driving out all Palestinians.
