Chief Akahige Age: 35 Gender: Chief Akahige is an imposing individual. He stands a full 7 feet tall, and has a width approching that number. Generally always dressed in furs and scale armor, he looks ready for battle (as indeed he has to be, as defender of his homeland). His massive bushy red mustache comes out as far as his shoulders, he has a grip which leaves the chances of getting blood from a stone up for debate, and a physique that can comfortably be described in terms usually reserved for architecture. He has yet to find a door that doesn't require him to turn sideways to enter, and there are rumours that his massive square chin can be used to hammer nails. Some of his subjects say that he once challenged a Machoke to a thumbwrestling match, and won. For his part, Chief Akahige does nothing to dispel these tall tales. If anything, he tries to live up to them. He enjoys feasting, drinking, hunting, and holding up the crossbeams for houses while the carpenters nail them in place. Chief Akahige's people are a hardy lot, shaped by the mountains they live in. Most of them take pokemon companions that reflect their hard-as-nails character, so everyone was a little surprised when Chief Akahige chose a Snorunt as his pokemon. Not that anyone dared mention this to him. Pokemon: Kimono (Snorunt) Kimono can be a bit of a shrinking violet, and definitely doesn't share the fighting drive of her fellow pokemon companions in her homeland. At times she worries that she just isn't cut out to be the Chief's protector, but Akahige will have none of it, and treats Kimono with all the camaderie of his finest warriors - although he does make sure to give her the less potent spirits to drink at the banquets, so she doesn't drink herself under the table in the first 10 minutes. The Kingdom of Samui Location: Castle: Not really a castle, so much as a great hall, the royal residence is a low-slung wooden building built from fir tree logs, sitting at the height of the village that is perched on a small plateau partway up the mountain. The place serves as the central social center of the village as well, with a roaring fire and minstrels singing rowdy bar songs most nights. The royal chambers themselves are compact, but luscious, with soft Cubchoo pelts lining the beds and thick, heavy curtains woven from Sewaddle silk covering the windows. Village: The village from which the kingdom takes its name, Samui is a collection of study log-and-stone huts perched on a mountain plataeu jutting out from the mountainside. From here, the villagers go on hunting forays into the forests, as well as felling timber and gathering berries. Everyone here is tough-as-nails, from the menfolk down to the 5-year-old girls, and the other small hamlets sleep safe at night when men from Samui go out to patrol the borders at the mountain's foothills. |
