Ah, perhaps you should link the character analysis so others who would like to can view it~ ;D Yup, pretty much. As I said before, I can only explain why he did what he did, but I cannot justify it. |

You would not believe how picky tumblr was about this, but I found the analysis of Satoshi: In Defense of Satoshi Mochida This is from a tumblr that specializes in defending controversial characters. This is what the person wrote: "(BREAKS THROUGH GLASS) HEARD YOU WERE TALKING SHIT ABOUT SATOSHI MOCHIDA (SPOILERS) BECAUSE LET ME TELL YOU, SATOSHI IS NOT SOME “GENERIC RICE CRACKER”. Has it seemed like Satoshi hasn’t been doing much in the recent games? Yes, but you know who I blame for that? The writers, for apparently forgetting that he’s supposed to be the main character so they can focus on Ayumi. Another reason why I think Satoshi hasn’t done much is because, when you get down to it, Satoshi is one of the more sensible members of the Kisaragi gang. He knows when to leave well enough alone. As for the claim that he’s boring, it might SEEM that way, but when you get down to it, Satoshi’s the sort of person a lot of people would want with them if they were trapped in Heavenly Host, because unlike most of the others, who had the school bring out the worst of them, it actually sort of brought out the best in Satoshi. I don’t understand why people pretend that Ayumi and Yoshiki were the only ones figuring things out, because Satoshi was, too. The last chapter even has Satoshi leading Naomi and Yuka to find more clues that Ayumi and Yoshiki couldn’t access. Think about it: The boy’s terrified of ghost stories, but he knows when the cowering has to stop. You know he’s scared, but he doesn’t freak out because that would most likely make his younger sister freak out. He’s not a handsome bad boy, but he’s kind enough to apologize for reading a message on a friend’s phone when said friend wasn’t even there and had in fact already died, and (more importantly), he’s stable. Furthermore, he also knows that he has to react quickly in certain situations. He acts as a sort of pillar for his friends. Please remember that Satoshi is the other reason Yoshiki even bothers showing up to school events. In conclusion, Satoshi is an awesome character that has been screwed over by the writers and the fans who ignore his good points." The comment about Kizami wasn't aimed directly at anyone in particular. I stated that because of fandom tendencies to idealize villains and overlook the things they do. |

You mean like this guy? Also, the analysis really does make some good points, though my previous comment still stands for one particular reason: My character analysis are based on characters' psychology and, from what I can tell, Satoshi is a pretty simple book to read, so to say. In other words, I myself cannot find much to analyse Satoshi with in terms of psychology. |

On fandoms-idealizing-villains: Yes. Exactly. On Satoshi: Well, that comes with the territory of being sane. If Satoshi had any childhood psychological illnesses like Kizami (boy, wouldn't that be a great twist!), his parents obviously had them treated (properly with lots of support and love) before they became a problem. Actually, Satoshi and Kizami probably make for a great way to compare and contrast two ways a person can turn out. Satoshi obviously came from a loving household that valued the wellfare of their children (a bit too much in the case of Yuka) while Kizami's parents pretty gave up the instant they realized that their child had something more complicated than the sniffles. Unfortunately, his older siblings, who did honestly try, just didn't have the expertise necessary to rein him in before he become a full blown sociopath. I will say this for the original 1996 Satoshi: at least that incarnation of the character was something of a slacker and his moments of grief-induced anger definitely showed differents sides to him. Too bad these parts of his characterization didn't survive into the PSP games. |

Yea, Satoshi and Kizami are like a photo and a photo negative: they are both looked up to and viewed as leaders within their respective groups. Too bad for Kizami's group he literally lacks the ability to process emotions like, say, Satoshi. *weep for the fallen everyone, weep for the fallen* |

I always thought of it that way...Satoshi and Kizami "Satoshi and Kizami As you can see, they’re both of the main guys of their respective schools…. Both like by everybody (Kizami in his “cool” mode) and associated with “family” (I mean Satoshi cares while Kizami loathes).. But what If Kizami is supposed to be what Satoshi becomes in production… Adding darkness and spices in Satoshi’s personality but was rejected because it was too far and would conflict with Satoshi as a leader type (what i mean by leader: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StandardizedLeader)." -- From my post in ABU Scans "Kisaragi to Byakudan" |

Thanks, Pokewars! Iarumas: Oh, indeed! I don't believe that Kizami was completely irredeemable, either. The problem is that the best opportunity came and went when he was still little. There is nothing worse than seeing someone grow up to be a wreck over something that was probably treatable just because the parents weren't supportive and didn't so much as put up money for diagnosing and therapy. And God only knows why they didn't. Tough, given how "well to do" his family is implied to be, I'll bet they didn't have him helped because they were afraid word would get out and they'd lose face. Here's a scary thought: what if Kizami inherited it? EDIT: Well said, Death! Edited by WeirdRaptor, July 30, 2014, 12:15 am.

Yea, his family does come off as being better off than most. Hmmm... yea, the family was undoubtedly afraid of being shunned, so rather than help treat and support their son, they allowed him to grow up feeling abandoned and unloved. As for potential inheriting it... well, I don't think so. After all, these sorts of things need to start somewhere after all and I do believe he was the starting point. After all, if he did inherit it from a family member, I'd like to think they would have had a better idea/way of going about treating him, since it was a known condition in the family. Not only that, but mental conditions are not necessarily passable through genes, as far as I know.

True. Neither his brother or sister seem to have it. If it was in the blood, it'd be a whole screwed up family. And boy, was HHE was the worst place for someone like him to wind up in. I have to wonder if the whole killing people part of his character would have become a thing if he had never gone there. I will also say this. I very much appreciate the foresight Team GrisGris had of throwing in a very much living human antagonist. I had no idea he would turn out to be like he did. I didn't think he'd be as benevolent as he seemed, because that line about "searching for his sister" didn't have me fooled one bit. I just didn't know he'd be a killer. I think they knew that just having ghosts alone would get repetitive, which is also why they probably made Yoshikazu as different from other specters as they did.
