On that note, my little sister has been a horror movie since she was 8 (or younger), and she is extremely extroverted and fits into the "girly" trope. There's nothing wrong with children doing that kind of thing unless you know for a fact that particular child would be traumatized.
Hey, Broshiki... is having a brother/sister a nice thing?

I would like to point out that I'm an only child, so...

@Fratoni: Ah, but this game is not simply about violence. It also features people writhing in pain and dying, sociopath, and what people might actually do in state of fear and panic to survive.

7 year old Hakai playing horror games at midnight would be amusing to see. I wonder what did your parents think? xD
Há! Its all cool man. I used to play Sillent Hill with the same age, I think I'm just cold as a rock.
It's the end, the war has been lost
Keeping them safe 'til the river's been crossed
Nicht ein Schlacht, ein Rettungsaktion
Holding their ground 'til the final platoon

@Fratoni: Fair enough xD I also enjoyed Silent Hill, too, though I didn't start as young as you guys.

But there will always be some (over)protective parents out there. My aunt gets paranoid about letting my cousins play games that she thought were too violent. I feel bad for them (and they were like 15-16 years old, too).

@Lua: I know that. Japanese seems to have its own standard as to what is appropriate to be seen by their children and what's not. But again, their legal age is 14, so I think they are considered mature enough at that point?

About the M/AO thing, they are close enough. I agree that it's rare to see AO games (I only know a few, and am not interested to play them too).
14... I thaught it was 16, same as marriage age... also the AO are generally pure porn game or extremelly gory games... console creator even agreed between themselves that they woldn't approve a AO game on a console... thus they are only on PC...
Corpse Party Cemetery0 ~The Creation of Ars Moriendi~ RAW

I'm currently missing the chapter 3 and 4... if you have them could you please give them to me ?

well, I think it has to do with how adult a person is
If my child (which I don't have XD) was 11-12 and adult enough, I would let it play corpse party
but I think under 10 is to young (nothing against you hakai xD)

@hakai:
what did I say about you izaya icons?
*hugs for each one*
you will be hugged to death by me xD

Hmm, well I'm 18 and I knew about Corpse Party since 15.
I guess it depends on a child's maturity level. Some are more mature than others their age, some are more immature than others.
I think ratings are mainly for the latter.
I usually am mature(most of the time). I usually talk to adults because I'm more comfortable talking to them than people my age.

It's none of my business who plays the games, but I can say that I personally would not introduce anyone under 17 to Corpse Party. Ratings exist for a reason, so I try not to show things to people who are under the age limit printed on the box. I'll make exceptions if I know they can handle it, but that's it.

The Hero We Deserve
I've always had a love for horror, ever since I was a little kid. I loved the slowly building feeling of fear, and danger. But it was also, partly, because I hated other people setting limits on what I could do or see. You know. So even then, the act always carried a transgressive air to it. Looking back as an adult, it's possible that I could have saved certain experiences for later in life, and others I could have avoided altogether. But I'm here today, and I'd like to think that I at least turned out a decent human being.

But enough of that. Let's look at the actual rating. Currently, the M rating is ages 17 and up, so high school seniors can squeeze through there if they have a valid ID (or just an ID...). By ESRB's content guideline, the M is for "violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.", which about covers Corpse Party. So regardless of how an individual feels about the content, it meets those standards and should be marked as such.

How a society views certain things differs greatly from place to place, so I can only speak about where I live, in the U.S.

A heavy rant about sex

On Content Advisory

As for kids, I think it really depends. Not every kid is the same, and they all mature at different rates, and in different ways. What one can take, the other might not be ready for. (For instance, I have a friend who's my exact opposite; he's never much liked the horror genre, even if he's watched scary movies before. If I do bring over a movie like that, I try to pick something more horror/comedy oriented, or something more quiet and suspenseful, like a Hitchcock movie. ETA:I should add I do bring other movies as well! Usually action or straight comedy.) I also don't begrudge parents for wanting to protect their children, but I don't discourage kids from educating themselves as well. It's not so simple that I can give an easy answer, especially since I'm not a parent. But again, I truly believe it's important for people of any age to be able to make informed decisions.

Just to be clear, my comments aren't directed at anybody in the forum, and no, I don't think we should be shooing out the kiddies because we're discussing a game where a bucket filled with nails and other pointy, heavy objects topples onto a teenage girl at one point. Just that the rating Corpse Party got was deserved, based on the standards it was judged by, and what's more important than the age limit is the outlining of content in a game.
