I'm not held down by nostalgia. I just wish that they could make games that good still. Most RPGs these days don't compare to Lunar and Grandia in my opinion. I just get teary eyed remember how awesome it was to play those games for the first time. As great as a story can be, there is nothing like the first time you experience it. |

Oh man... the Lunar series! I usually don't like singling out a single game as my 'favorite', since there are almost always some that I consider just as good based on different merits, but Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue were such amazing experiences that I'm actually willing to call them my #1 RPGs (and RPGs are probably my favorite and most extensively played genre, too). I think it's cause they seem to be excellent games all around, with very little, if any weak aspects, and then their casts of characters are some of the most likable I've seen (which to me, is a HUGE plus). Besides the two you linked, I love these two as well, and not just for the nostalgia, either: Between Dragons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvXKF8k9Oko Heart-Shaped Tears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ruZ-xBd9ik Then of course, there're the game's openings: Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete Opening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2-x4VhKPaM Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete Opening (Song starts at 3:14) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r58ddoYhjHg They had some really good OSTs overall, though. I can think of quite a few RPGs that I enjoyed quite a lot, some of which I like almost as much as the first two Lunar games, and even matched or surpassed Lunar in certain aspects, but for me at least, none of them seem able to match those two games overall. It's also too bad Lunar: Dragon Song was really terrible in comparison. Very mediocre game, with nothing-special characters and story (I liked the moment where Juan got cursed to no longer be able to "stand on his head", though), and some design decisions I rather disliked, like auto-targeting for basic attacks, and running in any enemy-infested area causing your HP to rapidly drain.
Ha, I actually got into the DoDonPachi series due to their soundtracks. As someone who had never played a bullet hell game, and wasn't all that interested in shoot 'em ups to begin with, I'm kinda surprised just how much fun I've been having with them and the other Cave shooters I've tried. Like I said it's not just for nostalgia for me either. The art design, characters, story, world, and music are all fantastic in those 2 games. I just wish we could get a sequel worthy of the Lunar name.. If not a sequel, maybe we could go on one of the many adventures of Dragonmaster Dyne in a prequel. That would be fun too. Maybe after Lucia finished fixing the Blue Star and people were going back up there from Lunar we could have an adventure there? I just feel that there's so much that can be done in that world still. I know it will never happen though. That in and of itself makes me sad. I think this one is one of my favorite character themes. http://youtu.be/YyZ1qaD_qFY I just loved Ronfar.. I love when he says "Happy Hour!!" while healing you.. |

Yeah, the world of Lunar really does feel like it has a lot of possibilities for expansion. I'd love to see a sequel or prequel, but after the disappointment of Lunar Dragon song, I don't figure that's too likely, unfortunately... I really loved Ronfar as well. He's totally not what you'd expect of a priest, but he's also more dependable than the gambling womanizer he appears to be at first glance. I really liked his backstory as well.
Heh, I think Jam project music can make most anything epic. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xqskiIehfk I agree with you on Tohou having some nice music, as well. I never played any of the games, but really like some of the song remixes, like these: PHOENIX Project - ラストリモート http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azIine2Gm40 究極の真実 ~ the Ultimate Truth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CilHn3Kxhuc I especially like the ones by Kishida Kyoudan & the Akeboshi Rockets (like their original stuff as well), such as these: 明星ロケット (Akeboshi Rokketo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPNgG6xoHDs Third Eye Blind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIPyPaBx-aE |

Yup. I actually first found out about them from that opening, then became a fan after listing to some more of their stuff. Here are a couple of their original songs. My bad. I didn't mean to insinuate anything by my nostalgia comment -_-I like the series too (only played 1 and 2 though). It has been quite some time since I last played that series. Should get to buying the remake on PSP. Was waiting (And hoping) they'd port Lunar 2 so I can play them back to back and make up for my parents getting rid of my old copies =( Moving on. I wish I could play but most "hell" shooters are on the 360 which I do not have. Still feel sad everytime I see a deathsmile game in stores =( I get by with touhou. Really enjoy their music and the arrangements made over the years by fans. Love Kishidan and the rockets ^_^. They hyped me up for HoTD. Their version of Necro Phantasia is one of my favorites. (Though Ayane will always have the #1 spot for me) 宵闇の月に抱かれて http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMnJaED3SOE&list=FLwiDDDDxJ7uCd-tDwAh1aaA&index=197&feature=plpp_video EDIT: Just had to get this off my chest Fans of Corpse Party, Touhou, Shoujo Byou, Kishidan and the Rockets, Shaft and more. This forum is freaking awesome

Me too, actually. I currently lack a 360, so the stuff I've been playing has mostly been on PC. It's possible to emulate some of the arcade games with Mame, (like DoDonPaichi: Dai-Ou-Jou and Ketsui) so long as you're computer's powerful enough. One thing to note is that it's arcade-level difficulty, where it's designed to suck up your quarters, so you'll likely die a decent bit. I'd say it's not too big a problem though, since you have potentially unlimited credits, and can challenge yourself to use less. It's not like it's an impossible difficulty either; Some of the really good shooter players (I'm definitely not one of them) can even 1CR those arcade games while getting nice scores. One worthwhile shooter that's more easily accessible on the PC is the eXceed Collection. http://nyu-media.com/products/exceed-collection/ You can either buy all 3 for $9.99, or individually, at $2.99 for the first, then the second and third are both priced at $5.99. The third's the one that really stands out, at least tome. The second's pretty fun as well, but has a polarity changing mechanic which you may or may not like, while first isn't really anything special in my opinion. The series homepage (http://exceedseries.com/) also has a demo for the second and third games, if you're interested but unsure.
Oh, that is a really nice remix! I remember coming across this awhile ago as well, which is also by Ayane: 11eyes - Lunatic Tears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR6gF5Gs27Q So yeah, she has some nice songs. I'd be interested in hearing some others, if you have any favorites. While I'm at it, guess I'll link a couple songs from a favorite singer of mine: Yanagi Nagi. A bunch of the stuff she sang in her earlier days were covers of various songs, then she was the guest vocalist for Supercell for a bit. I think she's mostly an independent artist now. A couple favorites: Treow - Blindness (cover by nagi) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z9Bb_xJ60c Arcane - White Dwarf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3uu5WMCpNs Supercell - Kimi no Shira nai Monogatari http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsQEPPQa2Xo Flaming June - Owari no Sekai Kara http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG7PZNCNDkY Flaming June - Last Smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCki_tSj-us Edited by Ajogamer, June 11, 2012, 10:17 pm.
