http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qaukjadJ_2o Eyes Of Wrath by Testament. Album title: The Gathering. Release date: 1999 This song is about being captured by ghosts and then torn to pieces. (Pretty blunt meaning but the lyrics are not straight forward, at least) The Gathering has to be one of my all time favorite Black Metal records. I'm not exactly the best for when it comes to describing what this song sounds like. (At least not over the Internet... I prefer discussing riffs in person) What I do know and love about this song (and record in general) is some of the most rhythmic music I've ever heard. Little fact about myself. I listen to this record among others to get inspired to write some dark stories. (In fact, I burrowed the name of this album for my story Corpse Party: The Gathering) |

Voice Of The Soul by Death. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd4q0Xx-u1Y Release date: 1998 In remembrance of the late father of Death Metal, Chuck Schuldiner. Here is an instrumental that changed my perspective of the Death Metal genre altogether. (Because of bands like Cannibal Corpse and Deicide... I though all Death Metal were only about gore and religion bashing so I hated Death Metal for years until I listened to The Sound Of Perserverance by Death for the first time) This song is played with only three guitars.(an acoustic for the Rhythm and two electric guitars for leads... All instruments were recorded by Schuldiner) Here's a summery of who he was and what he's done during his time on earth. (Though this hardly does him justice, to me) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Schuldiner One final note, I hope this song changes your thoughts about Death Metal as well as it changed mine. Rest in peace, Chuck. |

I think it's time to bring in some "Darkness" once again. Nostalgia by Gorguts. Release date: 1998 Once again, this is another song from my personal favorite record "Obscura" (A very overlooked album due to the genre and nature of the record) Just like the opening track for this album, this will take several listens and tons of patience to understand this song's melody and meaning due to the structural complexity of the song. Honestly, one of the strongest features of the song is the lyrics.(granted, it's sung in death growls) There wasn't too many days that this song in particular didn't make me cry due to the dark theme of this song and record. (Not to mention, it reminds me of a dark time of mine, a year ago but that's a different story) I can't quite describe the way the song is composed because of the strange notes and overall foundation.(It's rated as one of the most intense records to date, by the way) But I'll show you guys the lyrics and maybe you'll feel what I feel when I listen to Nostalgia. I recommend to read the lyrics first to get the general idea of the song, granted, it won't prepare you for the composition, itself. Also as a warning, if you do listen to the song, play the song at a low to mid level volume because it can be loud at times. Nostalgia

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qdlQyNe_9tE If anyone has ever wondered what I look like in real life, pay attention to the madman on the bass guitar. For those who are not familiar with Metallica, the man's name is Cliff Burton, and he is my biggest role model in life.(Both musically and in personality) And by the way, this song is awesome live. R.I.P Cliff. Edited by Yoshie Shinozaki, November 30, 2014, 3:26 pm.
