I've been too obsessed with VEIN (Imai Asami) that I forgot how nice of a singer ARTERY is too in her solos.

Kitamura Eri pls.

Shimoneta's Inner Urge ending theme song is too catchy for me. Too perfect of an ED for the show. I wanna be part of SOX too.

So, I mentioned on a recent stream how there were some Sonic games with unusually bad music, so thought I might as well link those here.

First is this song from Sonic Eraser (a puzzle game that was only released in Japan):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxP0n7h_914

It's made even worse by the fact that the game only had 3 songs, and this is the one that plays the most by far, since it's during gameplay (the other two are just the main menu theme and the victory theme). This song was also composed by Masaru Setsumaru, who actually isn't a bad musician, since he's composed for games like Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure. Apparently, he was inexprienced with the Megadrive's sound system at the time, which led to it being pretty bad, though still... I kinda have to wonder how people heard this and went "Yup, this'll work!"

Next are two songs from Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on the DS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrpglqYeQBc

Now, I'll admit these aren't TOO bad. The melody's actually kind of okay in a way; it's just the instrumentation that's horrible. This is also on the DS though, the very same system capable of songs like this, this and this. Y'know, stuff pretty close to actual instruments (and with quite a lot of variance, at that). Apparently, this was another case of the composers being unfamiliar with the hardware they were composing for at the time, though the game as a whole was also rushed, so that likely played a part as well. (Also, fun fact: the game was a turnbased RPG made by Bioware. Even so though, the game wasn't that great from what I hear; mediocre at best).

Not sure if others'll find those amusing or not, but I've always had a thing for musical trainwrecks, heh (same sort of appeal as playing bad games, I guess).

It was probably more of an issue of, "Shit the deadline is almost on us, and we need something we don't have to pay royalties on."

To be honest, it's not that bad. I can see it getting annoying after a while, but it's not making me have a migraine. I vaguely remember there was music sort of like this in some old video games, so it was probably OKish at the time.

The difference in quality between the Sonic music and the other games is crazy. Why do they even make the guys use programs they have no familiarity with? Are they doing some sort of advertisement for it? If they are, it ain't working. I'd hate to have been the guy working on this. Music is supposed to be creative, right? To be restricted by your tools... All I'm saying is, I'd feel pretty crappy if I was told to write a story with a keyboard that wasn't in QWERTY.

Yeah, I agree it could certainly be worse; the theme of Crazy Bus is probably the worst I've heard. I still think those couple songs are notably bad, though at least with the Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood examples, I picked what are some of the worst songs of the soundtrack. Some others are more listenable. Still pretty horrible with instrumentation (remember, this is midi-quality instruments on the DS), though what the composers were going for is much more apparent, at least.

Honestly, I just get an odd sense of entertainment to hear bad songs like this (kinda similar to the appeal of watching bad movies or playing bad games when they're bad enough to be funny), though I do feel a bit sorry for the composers as well, in this case.

For what sounded like the product of rushed delivery for Sonic, the tracks weren't bad, I'll definitely say the music sounds dissonant, but I think the off-beat, out of tune manner to the tracks is what gives it some kind of charm.(Especially the first track from The Dark Brotherhood, that one sounds strange, but honestly, strange music is my forte)

And since we're on the subject of strange music, here's a song that made me fall in love with Silent Hill after watching Caddicarus' video of Top Ten Scariest Music In Video Games.
If ya haven't heard this track yet, basically it sounds like a trip to the Dentist and someone decided to bring a Drumset into the office. It's noisy, off time, heavy on reverb and I love it.

Hahahaha. The Crazy Bus sound track reminds me of the Giygas battle theme.

As a person who likes insane sounding songs, it's actually not that bad. Just imagine it's for a lovecraftian monstrosity game instead of a bus simulator (That's what I'm guessing the game is. Too lazy to look it up.)

Ah, Silent Hill... such an awesome place. I loved the art videos from Silent Hill 2. Favorite was "Fukuro", that had some crazy music (although there's a version of the video with Queen's "Don't stop me now". Watching Pyramid Head do his thing with the monsters while Queen is singing is strangely funny.)

Abstract Daddy, Bubble head nurse, Mannequin... so many awesome monsters. (Now, that is erotic horror done right!)

I dunno if I'd classify any of the songs besides the sonic ones as musical train wrecks, to be honest. Then again, my mind may just be screwed beyond human sanity. The little green gauge next to the health bar on my UI has been at 0 for a while now.

Got any others Ajo?

I found this gem a few days ago. I can't help but smile every time I listen to it.

Now, it's a little bit odd, but I love it.
