@superdubes: Beetlejuice theme! YES! And yeah, Danny Elfman is a pretty solid composer. I've been debating about making another music post so soon but... These are some songs I really want to share. These are my favorite songs off of The Afterman: Ascension by Coheed and Cambria. Sad slow songs ahoy! Heh. Beetlejuice brings back bittersweet memories. I was the resident "weird girl" in my grade and my status was elevated when I saw some chick wearing black and white striped tights and decided I wanted my own. "Beetlejuice" and "Lydia" were my nicknames for several years after that. It caused me much torment, but it also helped me embrace who I am. So thanks, assholes. I'm OK with me. How 'bout you? |
|
Mazel's current mood is: You never can win it's the state I'm in This danger thrills and my conflict kills They say follow your heart follow it through But how can you when you're split in two? | |

Alright... This is going to be long and going to cover quite a bit of musical ground. A couple of these are going to be over 6 minutes long (longest songs are around 9). Including little notes too. And again, I apologize beforehand. This is a really long list and... I really went all over the place with this. 21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujIbpt-CCTY ~Progressive rock. Sampled for "Power" by Kanye West. Fuck You - Lilly Allen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pivuom_rfqY ~No this isn't aimed at anyone. I just love how cheerful the song sounds and then the lyrics. Oh the lyrics. Lateralus - TOOL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epkG-xSYaHA ~Favorite TOOL song. Also, this better explains what's kind of cool about it. Digital Bath - Deftones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tmPBuSpmfA ~No comment. At all. Get Away - Maya Jane Coles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoADMHr80R4 ~EDM. Why not. I love her work. Not Listening - Maya Jane Coles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-2otmT45rE ~See above. Loner - Burial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNFvw4ciz4w ~Faster and more dancefloor oriented than most Burial tunes. Untrue - Burial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmW_r3XK2HA ~Title track from the second Burial album. Faith and Labour - Sigha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGsKKuEM0lc ~NFSW cover image. I honestly love the sound of the entire album so it's hard to pick just one song. Stargazer - Blood Stain Child: ~The female vocalist off this album (Sophia) is no longer with the band. Which is a disappointment, she was a massive improvement from the previous vocalist. More of a dance track than a melodic death metal track. Wot U On - Dizzee Rascal: ~DAT PRODUCTION. Dizzee is the dude that made me care about grime and subsequently hip-hop/rap. Stand Up Tall - Dizzee Rasal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_VKsq72y4c ~More of a dance beat, shows his progression from just a kid making music to the popstar (in the UK) he'd become. Spaceship - Kano: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM6YBeegBVY ~I had no idea there was a video for this... Another song I really love the production for. Power - Kanye West: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouwCWDbBskU ~I've got a weakness for Kanye, I'm sorry. His production (and the production of the people he works with) and for some reason, his voice. I dunno. I wouldn't want to be in the same room with him though. Street Lights - Kanye West: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrT9ooi-xUk ~See above. Hair Trigger - Protest the Hero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWDrdAJMcRs ~Seriously amazing singing voice. It's also nice to see a band that doesn't take themselves too seriously. Sequoia Throne - Protest the Hero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWig9FwqWpk ~LYRICS ABOUT ALIENS! A great example of the vocalists range and versatility. I mean, he's not Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle and dozens of other projects) or Kyo (Dir en grey), but he's still pretty versatile. Rasetsukoku - Dir en grey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnhf14zoRBc ~Speaking of Kyo. Rasetsukoku (NEW VERSION) - Dir en grey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FcVMcNeEWk ~There is a massive difference between these two versions. Sounds a lot like deathcore (examples: early Job For a Cowboy, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel) too. I'm not really into deathcore. Tunnel of Trees - Deafheaven: ~Last song off of their first album. Swirling post-rock guitars, ferocious black-metal blast beats and vocals that combine the energy and vitriol of hardcore and black-metal. I highly recommend it for the music alone. Far - Coheed and Cambria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfSpQVINZvE ~Yeah, more C&C. I'm not a fan of the album this is off of (Year of the Black Rainbow) but this song is super solid songwriting. Sadly the guitar solo is cut out of the music video. Not sure how "Far" plays into the YotBR storyline. A Favor House Atlantic - Coheed and Cambria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRWjLLpwnOM ~Such a upbeat sounding song when the lyrics definitely aren't cheerful at all. This video has nothing to do with the storyline of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. But it's a little bit amusing at times, like those super cheesy costumes. The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut - Coheed and Cambria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sT_1xCaoFQ ~This is me avoiding "Welcome Home". Anyways, a slower song and features strong songwriting. Also, more solos than usual. Just Because You Sleep Next to Me Doesn't Mean You're Safe - Gallows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aCHYKjVo0I ~Super long song title! British hardcore. Misery - Gallows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjpXo9Qlw3I ~The opening of this song doesn't even ready the listener for the rage held within. But it does show of the willingness to experiment and try new things the bands sound. As a note, the vocalist on this song and the one above is no longer with the band. I have a strong fondness for music for programmed drum beats and, this includes rap and hip-hop (I tend to ignore a lot of it though). So, the first time that I ever heard City Star by Rustie (song starts after 2 minutes 7 seconds) I nearly died from the combination of the two. To me, the song is just irresistible. Anyways, apparently Rustie did a mix for BBC for their Essential Mix program, which features EDM, rap and hip-hop. If you've got two hours to sit and listen to something, give it a go. Or you can download it and start over from where you left off. Edited by strwbry, December 29, 2012, 2:29 am.

So today I'm going to post some songs sang by Shimotsuki Haruka, a favorite singer of mine. It also happens that MANYO/Littlewing, one of my favorite composers, works on a lot of the songs she sings (actually, he composed every song here other than Where the Wind Goes). Ruri no Tori http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWUlo6YYKgQ Luna - Arranged Version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oEzkH2Ti4I Where the Wind Goes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb55P-QWxbQ I also really like some of the duets she's sung with others: Yami no Kanata ni (duet with Rita) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7XhMaEJm5U 虚木ノ咎人 (duet with HaRuhiCo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38rqGvYyA4o Twelve Prayers (duet with Katakiri Rekka) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLzfUqlZHJk Also, since I mentioned Katakiri Rekka and MANYO, lemme link a song by both of them that I really like: Sora no Sukima http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4mc-o0frpA Edited by Ajogamer, December 27, 2012, 10:57 am.

I'm going to post a little bit more free music for you all! First off, this website here: http://www.dopestarsinc.com/ From there you can get the fourth album (Ultrawired) by Italian band, Dope Stars Inc. entirely for free. Or you can pay for it if you want to. Multiple download options are available. You can also listen to each song in full from their YouTube channel. DSI as a band are... I dunno how to describe it. Industrial? Not like Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Ministry or even Nine Inch Nails. More synth based, more dance beats and more punk sneer. The album Ultrawired is lyrically rooted in cyberpunk, internet culture and gaming ("Get Young"). Out of their four albums thus far, this is one of the two that I listen to often. And last is this: https://soundcloud.com/gunface/sets/unraveller-kinship-synthesis Kinship Synthesis by Unraveller. This is a project started by Mike "Gunface" McKenzie, guitarist for death-core band The Red Chord. There is however, not a single guitar to be heard on the album at all. The entire album is made up of programmed drums (that sound like they're actually acoustic) and 8-bit synths. Acoustic styled drums might be an odd choice, but it seems fitting and really separates it from the chip-tune and bitpop material that's out there. It's a bit of a fun album to listen to, especially if you like 8-bit synths. |

@Ajo I really like the composition of the first three songs that you posted (I haven't listened to the duets, I'll get around to it). The vocals fit the music pretty well too. But... The composition. Oh my god, it's pretty amazing sounding. |
