So, being a cashier at a huge store like Target is pretty taxing work. Standing up all day, not really getting the chance to legit breathe if it gets too busy, and occasionally dealing with an idiot or five. Guess who had to do all three? :3 Now, this isn't a bad job at all, by any means; they pay well, I can potentially get free stuff sometimes, and my schedule literally could not get any better. But, bottomline, I'm still working retail.

Back to the subject at hand, today was one of those days when we had too many people coming into the lanes at once, and not enough people working. So, this one lady comes through with literally a grand worth of electronics. I'm thinking 'Holy crap, either you're getting your holiday shopping done early or putting in a home theater.' She was a nice lady, don't get me wrong, but she was probably one of the dumber people I checked out today. Now, after I get done ringing up her stuff, that's when the coupons come in. Makes sense, her bill literally came to about $1200, she would feel bad paying that much, and I would actually feel bad charging someone that much for anything. Now, some of these coupons are special; they take off a certain percentage off of particular items they buy, and on occasion, you have to enter that mess in manually. You only have to enter it in manually if the person does not have the item, or if the system is screwing up. Either way; it's a pain. So she had a coupon that took off 30 percent of a laptop, specifically the one she DIDN'T have in the cart, and for some reason, she did not understand this concept. It's not '30 percent off of a laptop', it's '30 percent off of this laptop in particular'. So she gets a bit of an attitude, (Not with me, with the situation, apparently) and decides she doesn't want anything at all. Now, I would not complain about that if she didn't just make me ring up 7 big-ass items that I was gonna have to go put back after dealing with what felt like Black Friday at one of my previous jobs. Was my eye twitching? Just a bit. So, I have to wheel her cart on over to the 's*** I have to put back' area, when another person in my lane stops me and asks if I could put back a few things for her as well. I sighed and said sure, she was holding in her hand a few small items that would take all of 5 seconds to put back, so I assumed that was what she meant. Ehh...NOPE! She meant the big-ass CART full of things next to her, she only wanted to pay for the things in her hand.

Now, that begs the question; why would you come to the checkout lane when it's OBVIOUSLY busy and ask someone who's already worked to the bone to put back an entire cart full of things? What was stopping you from putting them back yourself, or better yet, not picking them out in the first place? >:3

Second up on the list; Target has their own Credit/Debit card that they have all cashiers try to get people to sign up for so they can save 5 percent on their purchases. Okay, cool, I'm good with that. I usually am able to get some, and if I get enough, that's how I can get free stuff. I can live with that proposition. The thing that bothers me is that sometimes the supervisors get on your ass about how many people you can get to sign up for them, even if you're someone who constantly meets and goes beyond their quota, like myself. Err, I understand it's company policy and all, but I think they should realize that we are essentially asking people to sign up for a credit card. A. Credit. Card. (Of course, the debit option makes sense because that's free, I myself use mine all the time.) You have to be pretty persuasive to get anyone to sign up for one of those bad boys in the first place, let alone get multiple people in the same day, and it's extremely luck-based. People take classes for careers involving stuff like that, and it's not like I'm gonna get paid extra if I can get one or three. Once again; I can see why it's required, but I don't really care for the fact that some of the higher ups act like something we can actually control. That is literally my only gripe with the job itself, everything else is damn near perfect.

So that's my vent for the day, but on the plus side, it got REALLY quiet in my store at one point. So what do I do? I put on a freaking dinosaur hat and worked the lanes with a straight face to see how people would react. I got many laughs, and I got away with it for a good 45 minutes before my supervisor said ''Dude, that's hilarious, but I can't let you do that or I'll get in trouble." :3
