Kuon Niwa![]() 丹羽玖遠 Age: 24 Height: 168cm (5’6”) Weight: 46.0kg (101.2lb) Birthdate: November 2, 1984 Blood Type: A School Life: An English and assistant homeroom teacher to Class 2-9 of Kisaragi Academy, Niwa, Kuon is the individual who replaced Shishido, Yui after the events of Heavenly Host. Satoshi: "Teacher, your topic is English, right? Isn't Geometry out of your specialization...?" Kuon: "Mu~, I'll try my best to teach you, so I can do it." (Satoshi trying to get out of a Geometry supplementary lesson.) She checks on her students academic capabilities beyond her subject of specialization, and frequently sets mini-tests and supplementary lessons for students who are struggling with other topics. Both Kishinuma, Yoshiki and Mochida, Satoshi have ended up having to take mini-tests under her supervision. She is willing to force students to sit through them, even going so far to catching them and putting them back in their seat. She is often found following Satoshi around the campus and occasionally doing ridiculous things, such as getting order made lunch boxes delivered by helicopter. Similar to Shishdo, Yui, she is well liked by the students. However, the survivors of Heavenly Host have difficulties dealing with her due to her having replaced their previous teacher. Her teaching license was something she acquired relatively recently. CEO of PL(Perfect Life): She is the CEO of Perfect Life, a company set up to promote the well-fare of the public, and releases many items such as anti-spirit protective charms and magnets that protect both mind and soul. Her genius alone allowed PL to become a large company in one generation. She was promoted through the ranks thanks to the large amount of profits she generated from the company before being asked to take the seat as CEO of the company. As CEO, she has a large number of personnel she can call upon. The helicopter lunch box delivery is her using her connections as the CEO of PL.The "Mochida Hot springs" was something she had the Engineering division of PL build in an afternoon. These personnel are highly dependent on her for orders, and were unable to act during the events of Blood Drive when Kuon disappeared. "Isn't this... the effect of an anathemic curse?" (Kuon upon observing the curse inflicted burn on Naomi's eye.) Besides that she seems to have a high degree of knowledge regarding Reigu, and other spiritual related objects and occurrences. She was correctly able to identify the source of Naomi's injury as resulting from the observation of an image associated with a spirit or spirits. The greatest proof of her expertise with Reigu, however, are the salvaged pair of Ever After stones. These were assembled from the broken remains left in Aiko's room. She was able to assemble a partially working pair from the broken fragments, and supplement them with an additional contraption that replaced a component she was not able to recreate. The pair of stones were able to replicate the effect of the Ever After stones, only being subject to a short charging up time due to having a much less efficient Spiritual Energy gathering mechanism. Other: According to Mist, Niwa Kuon is a world renowned genius and has increased the standards within multiple fields of expertise. Some of the results of her genius are: The "Niwa Taste" drink. A drink that allows one to enjoy tastes such as yoghurt, milk, Fruits Milk (A drink composed of squeezed or blended fruits, honey, and milk), or Coffee milk at one time. The life span watch. A watch with a timer that counts down the time limit she has to live. The amount of time left stopped decreasing on the first day she met Satoshi at Kisaragi, the day she first became a teacher there. The time limit remaining on her watch was three days. Niwa Kuon had only three days to live when she became at teacher at Heavenly Host. In other words, she became a teacher to satisfy one of her life long dreams before she died. The salvaged Ever After stones. A salvaged pair of Reigu, recreated from the broken remains within the box left by Aiko. Unlike the Grave of Maltuva, Niwa Kuon never saw a fully completed set of stones, thus she did not have a full set of blueprints to work off of. Nevertheless, she still managed to recreate an operational pair of stones and designed supplementary components to replace what she could not recreate. Personality: Bright and cheerful, she seems highly similar to Shishido, Yui. However, she can be highly controlling at times. "That person seems to love me, but I hate her. It's because, from long ago, she used to set a path in front of me for everything... Everything, Everything, E-------verything." (Aiko when asked about her feelings towards Kuon) Niwa AIko, her sister, became suffered from depression and emotional self-abandonment due to her not being given the ability to choose anything. As she has a very high intelligence, Kuon often sees the most efficient path to a goal. This can often contradict a person's own choices, and Aiko was not even allowed to choose her own undergarments without Kuon 'correcting' her choices. Her great ability has also lead to other becoming heavily dependent on her. Her parents abandoned raising Aiko and her and went on a world tour using money that Kuon provided due to Kuon being a much better care taker and bread winner than them. Her subordinates at PL seem to have almost no autonomy, and were unable to react at all when faced with the calamities that occurred during Blood Drive. Kuon: "Here, Satoshi-kun. Say Aah please?" Kuon's cheeks are swollen like a squirrel's. Her face is close enough to touch Satoshi's. Satoshi: "Huh?" Kuon: "You need to chew your food 100 times before you swallow it. It mixes in saliva helping digestion, and also protects your throat allowing you to vocalize smoothly. I chewed it for you. So here, aah please?" Satoshi: "I'm fine. Please swallow. Also, you're close." Sticking out the palm of his hand, Satoshi calmly deals with the situation. Kuon: "You sure? (Gulp)... I masticate quickly, so I thought it would be more reasonable to do mouth to mouth than for Satoshi-kun to chew by himself. Even baby birds do that." Satoshi: "Uh, I can chew by myself. Additionally, I'm a human being." (Satoshi and Kuon at the Mochida family dinner table during dinner.) Kuon occasionally displays very low levels of emotional awareness. She seems oblivious to the displeasure of others, and cannot understand why they reject the more optimal solutions she provides. This has lead to her and Aiko having a very prickly relationship and Aiko going through a great deal of emotional stress. "The only reason I could calculate things quickly and acquired an abundance of knowledge... was because I have an abnormal brain." (Kuon in reply to being called a genius.) It is possible that she suffers from Savant syndrome. (Savant syndrome: a condition where an individual demonstrates extraordinary mental capabilities of memorization, calculation, or even artistic skill. However, many suffer from low emotional awareness and low empathy scores.) This would explain why she seems unable to understand the emotions of others, and her high amount of intelligence. Savant syndrome is often caused by an abnormal brain structure. This may explain why she voiced the above statement in reply to being called a genius. "When my life span ends, I'll just disappear. Until then, I'd just do what I can do... that's how I used to think." (Kuon's stance on her life) She is philanthropic (i.e. wants to help others out) by nature, even when she harms those around her. This mind set is related to her ability which functions by, "Bettering the lives of others". This mind set seems to be self-sacrificial, with her primary goal in life simply doing as much as she could do for others before dying. (My assumption for her intent of creating the life span watch and her usage of her talents for others is that she realized she would die someday, no matter how long she prolonged it. Should this occur suddenly, either through; accident, incident, or disease she would die without having efficiently using up her life. Therefore, she decided to use up her lifespan as efficiently and quickly as possible so that she could do nothing more with it once it was over. Perhaps, as she is a genius and perfect, she has no need to focus on herself and thus can only pay attention to others. Of course, she does not view herself as perfect, but that just makes her more perfect. (Similar to how real geniuses don't recognize that they are geniuses and often refute that claim because to accept it would be arrogance and that would hinder them. Something along the lines of a perfect existence is only perfect because it doesn't recognize its perfection.)) Relationships: "You know, the day I became your assistant home room teacher, I can't forget it." ---------------- "The fact that we met, it's a miracle, you know?" ---------------- "I met you, and fell in love for the first time in my life. When I thought, 'I want to live' ... the numbers on the clock(watch) stopped decreasing." (Kuon on her first meeting with Satoshi) She is infatuated with Satoshi for some reason. This attraction took place on her first day at Kisaragi, and caused the time on her life span watch to stop decreasing. She is not above abusing her position as CEO of PL to 'help' Satoshi. The "Mochida Hot Springs" were originally built in response to her sensing the change in his and Yuka's aura after their return from Heavenly Host. Sulfur infused water has spirit repelling qualities and also helps with stress. This infatuation does go to rather extreme levels, where she will try to feed him mouth to mouth. The nature of her attraction is related to her will to live. Before meeting with Satoshi, she had accepted the fact that she would die and thought that the only thing she could do was do as much as she could before her time ran out. This changed when she met Satoshi and she began to think, "I want to live." for the first time in her life. Sadly, she lost this thought when she realized that the Satoshi from Heavenly Host did not remember their first meeting. In the end, she thinks "I don't want to die." but not "I want to live." (As a side note Kuon's choice in character to describe her affection is 恋 which can translate to love but often has connotations of being unrequited. 愛 usually has connotations of there being physical or emotional closeness whereas 恋 has connotations of love which is slightly distant.) She was avoided by the cast of Corpse Party, mainly due to them feeling that she replaced Yui. However, by the end of Blood Drive, they have fully accepted her as their teacher and mourned her loss. Aiko and her meet around once every 6 months. Although Kuon feels protective of Aiko and cares for her, Aiko herself both dislikes and fears Kuon. Although Aiko does not wish for Kuon to die, she does not like talking to or even being near Kuon. Having been robbed of all choice in her life once already, she does not wish to risk loosing her free will to Kuon again. Aiko's own interest in the supernatural began from the lack of choice in her own life. The ability to see spirits and use spiritual abilities seemed to be the one thing she had that her sister didn't. However, just when Aiko was gaining a foot hold in the Reigu(spiritual item) auction houses and making a profit, Kuon stepped into the supernatural world and quickly overtook her. This trauma causes Aiko to be quite hostile to Kuon, even though she knows Kuon means well. Kuon's relationship with Satoshi's mother seems very close. It maybe due to the number of gifts Kuon has brought to the Mochida family. Satoshi's mother is friendly enough with her to hand her the key to their house, despite Satoshi's objections. It is slightly implied that Satoshi's mother wouldn't be against the idea of Kuon going out with or even marrying Satoshi. She is known by both Kiriya Mist, and Midzuki, Magari. Her company has opposed the Grave of Maltuva over the spiritual surgeries they occasionally preform on some of their followers. Abilities: High level Intelligence:
Her intellect is one of the highest of the cast of Corpse Party. Her knowledge-base covers topics both spiritual and mundane. This allows her to determine the source of many of the dangers of Heavenly Host and allows her to avoid them. She also knows of a variety of methods to deal with spiritually caused wounds and curses. The greatest boon of this ability were the salvaged pair of Ever After stones. These provided Satoshi, Naomi, and her the ability to enter Heavenly Host and save those trapped inside. Extreme strength: Even though her body's age is approaching 90 years old, she can physically pick up and carry Satoshi as if he were a baby. This physical strength seems to be on par with Magari, and maybe spiritual in nature. (One of the old special abilities granted to the old cast of the Dante98 version of Corpse Party was physical strength enhancement. This was one of the abilities granted to Yoshiki from Sachiko.) Spirit purging: She has the ability to purge large numbers of evil spirits in a flash of light. It is unknown if this was the effect of a single use item, or a technique she can use. Unknown ability: Commonly misunderstood as an "overclock" ability, Niwa Kuon possesses an ability that uses up her lifespan as a result of its activation. The conditions for it to be activated are, "For the sake of others." Her high level intellect and physical strength are not not a result of this ability. The reason for this is her display of those talents even when the timer on her life span watch has stopped. In other words, those two abilities can be activated without lessening her life span a single second. Upon thinking, "I want to live" this ability is turned off, and her life span is no longer consumed. Thinking, "I don't want to die." is not enough for this ability to be switched off. Shinozaki Ayumi![]() 篠崎 あゆみ (しのざき あゆみ)((安祐美)(Gently, Shields others, Beautifully)) Age: 17 Height: 151 cm (4’11”) Weight: 43.2kg (92lb) Birthdate: September 12, 1990 Blood Type: A Student Life: The second daughter of Shinozaki Ayato and Shinozaki Asuka. She can be said to be a busy body, or simply overly caring. Her strong sense of responsibility and eagerness to help others has placed her as the classroom representative of class 2-9 of Kisaragi Academy. Also known as the “Ghost story rep”, her fondness of telling scary stories is known in all 10 classes of their grade in Kisaragi Academy. She gets most of these stories from the internet via forums or message boards. However, this reliance on the internet has gotten her into trouble more than once. Including the information about the Sachiko Ever After she found on Naho’s blog, she was also involved in the “Project: DOLLIES” experiment that was being run by Master Midzuki Magari of the Grave of Maltuva. (The Grave of Maltuva mixes in both modern technologies and spiritual techniques in their pursuit of greater spiritual technologies and recovering the Book of Shadows. The dissemination of false or incorrect information on the internet is one of the many methods they use to gather test subject.) Although a good student and liked by many of the teachers, Ayumi herself doesn’t seem to trust most of them. This distrust is not blatantly obvious, but their homeroom teacher, Mr. Yamazaki, has noticed that Ms. Yui is the only teacher who she really seems to open up to. Her life at home is slightly tense. Both of her parents are against her dream of becoming an artist, which has lead to many arguments that occasionally reduce her to tears. Having seen them do something similar to Hinoe when she decided to become a spiritual medium, Ayumi feels slightly distant from them. This has lead to her hiding or simply not saying many things to them. “My older sister always came to my rescue when I was in trouble… she’s my super man!” “Funny… she’s your sister, but you called her ‘man’” “You’re annoying…. Then, hero.” (Ayumi and Yoshiki talking about Ayumi’s older sister, Hinoe) Hinoe is the one person Ayumi fully opens up to. When they were little, Hinoe would protect both of them from passing evil spirits. The two would often discuss the supernatural together, and it was through Hinoe that Ayumi learned of Saenoki Naho. Personality: (She says things pretty frankly a lot of the time, but at her heart she’s the type of person who cares about other people, no matter who they are…) (Yoshiki on Ayumi’s personality) Kind and caring, Ayumi can be often found trying to help or cheer someone up. The organization of Mayu’s farewell party, as well as the Theme Park outing to cheer up Yoshiki were both organized by her. Some may call her a busy body, but her willingness to help others is seen as her greatest trait by many of her classmates. However, this willingness to help others has another side to it. “I don’t like it… when other people try to tend to me…” (Ayumi on being cared for by others) Ayumi often refuses help, or pretends to be fine in front of others. Although she may not succeed all the time, Ayumi does not like bothering or troubling others. This, combined with her survivor’s guilt and strong sense of responsibility, cause her to be highly self-destructive during the events of Blood Drive, and is the main motive for trying to go into the Nirvana, even by herself. In a sense, her mindset could be said to be self-sacrificial from the beginning. She constantly tries to better the lives of others, even those who are only tangentially related to her, and often at a cost to herself. (If the characters hypothesized to be the ones in her name are correct, then this mind set could be more ingrained, and dangerous than it appears.) “You see, there’s isn’t a single person in class 2-9 who doesn’t know about the ‘Class rep Shinozaki’s scary candles’, right?” “Actually, it’s famous in all TEN classes. They call you the ‘Ghost Story rep’.” (Ayumi and Yoshiki on Ayumi’s status as the ‘Ghost Story rep’) Ayumi is infamous at Kisaragi for both being a teller of ghost stories, and carrying a mysteriously inexhaustible number of candles to set the atmosphere for telling them. Most of these stories are actually from the internet, which has lead to her getting into trouble numerous times. Although many are harmless, her love of ghost stories, and the occult has allowed Midzuki Magari to access her mind via Project: DOLLIES in an attempt to discover the location of the Book of Shadows. However, this attraction to the occult is not entirely unfounded. “It feels like the unease Ayumi-chan and I have sensed, ever since we were little, has become larger over the past few days. I wonder what is happening… Somewhere close, very close… I can feel ‘its’ presence… Could it be? … Of course not. It probably is just my imagination, but… I might have to talk to that child about it. I only hope nothing happens…” (Hinoe on the feeling of unease, and telling Ayumi about something.) Both Hinoe and Ayumi seem to be able to sense the Book of Shadows, and have felt a strange unease since their childhood, due to its contents being unsealed. Additionally, Hinoe feels this feeling growing after Ayumi and co. release Sachiko from Heavenly Host. (Which also unshackled the Nirvana from its master, completely freeing it.) This may suggest that both have a passive ability to sense the Nirvana, and the Book of Shadows to some degree as well as its state and level of activity. Whether this sense is a product of the Book of Shadows or the Nirvana calling to them, or a result of them having higher than normal spiritual perception is unknown. (If it is the former, it would explain how the Book of Shadows managed to remain hidden inside Ayumi for so long. However, it is also possible that being in so many negative situations obscured the uneasy feeling Ayumi may have been feeling from being so close to the Book of Shadows.) Ayumi and Hinoe have also been the target of lesser evil spirits, and shades ever since they were little, and it is from being protected from these by Hinoe, that Ayumi has such strong trust, admiration, and confidence in her. “I… don’t know how good I am, and don’t have any confidence… so I’m so scared, that I can’t even take the first step… I’m just scared and… afraid and…” (Ayumi to Hinoe on her fears of the future.) Although she often appears to be in control in class, Ayumi is actually a pretty weak person. However, this fear, and lack of confidence is mostly set aside when it comes to helping others. This does mean that most of the time, Ayumi is putting a facade of being in control of the situation. Although this weakness may be more obvious in the games, it is this continuous facade of confidence that is partially responsible for her diving straight into danger. It is because she is weak that she must pretend that she knows what she is doing, sometimes even to herself. (This is also a large reason for the many “No don’t do THAT!” moments that Ayumi finds herself in. She herself is lying to herself that she can do a certain set of actions.) “Not you. Call Mochida-kun… Next person please!” (Ayumi to Yoshiki under the effects of Darkening) Although it is usually under the effect of Darkening, Ayumi has displayed some rather uncharacteristically callous behavior on occasion. It should be noted that although Darkening does cause one to behave unusually, all it actually does in reduce a person’s inhibitions, usually towards negative or selfish actions. In other words, a person suffering from Darkening is not displaying behavior that they are incapable of displaying, but merely showing a side of themselves that is usually kept hidden. Thus, Shinozaki Ayumi’s occasionally psychopathic and malicious actions are all part of her personality. However, it should be noted that she has gone through a large number of changes since the events of Blood Covered, and has managed to overcome the effects of her first darkening. Added to her survivor’s guilt, Ayumi’s darker tendencies seem to have been mostly replaced with a burning desire for correcting past mistakes. It is possible that her extreme lack of self-worth has caused her to lose most of her desires and wants that motivated those darker emotions during Blood Covered. “- - Are you… Are you really fine with that!! Stop thinking about others all the time for Christ’s sake!!” (Yoshiki to Ayumi on her outlook of the world, and her choices.) Ayumi cannot stand the idea that someone was hurt because of her. She cannot stand the idea that she lives happily ever after, even though so many have suffered due to her. Thus, she cannot forgive herself for enjoying life until she has corrected what she has wronged. Possible Trauma “You idiot!” “Kya!” *SNAP! Thump “What?! What?! Stop it!! … I don’t want this!” “The hell are you saying, idiot! You just had your arm almost bitten off!” (Yoshiki and Ayumi after Yoshiki knocks Ayumi to the ground, in order to save her from having her arm bitten off.) Some people might be surprised about this, but I’ve always felt Ayumi’s attitude to Yoshiki and other males in general was a bit off. Ayumi is said to be quite distrustful of adults, especially adult males, and a lot of the teaching staff at Kisaragi besides Ms. Yui. Whenever Yoshiki is physically close to her, she often panics and pushes him away. A lot of the times she accuses/interprets his actions as being perverted or sexual, and (at the time displayed above) she was truly afraid of being sexually abused by him. Her relationship with her parents is also relatively cold, and sometimes borderline hostile. From the above, I’ve had this feeling that Ayumi has a form of androphobia (fear of men) or at least a tendency to feel wary of men. I guess, phobia is probably too strong a word, and it certainly isn’t strong enough to make her lose interest in boys completely, but it is enough to make her wary of them. As for why she may feel like this… Well… “–Misuto… You know, I thought of that once, when I was a child. When the pain was unbearable… When nobody came to help me… When I thought my friends betrayed me… I ended up thinking that it would be great if e-veryone in the world, besides my family, just… died. It was when I was in the 2nd year of Middle school.” “I still think that way right now.” (Hinoe and Misuto about the rest of the world.) Something happened to Hinoe during her middle school years at Kisaragi. It was something that made her feel betrayed by her friends, abandoned, and completely alone. What happened is not described, but it was enough to make Hinoe want to have everyone except her family die. Ayumi and Hinoe are close, very close. I don’t think Hinoe told Ayumi what happened to her, but Ayumi probably saw enough to make her understand something bad had happened. The theory I have running in my head was that Hinoe was sexually abused, either by a male student or a teacher at Kisaragi Academy. The incident was either hushed up, or dealt with behind the scenes. (e.g. the offender was simply transferred or sent away, not criminally charged. It has happened in schools before, and wasn’t unheard of about 10 or 15 years ago. Not to mention, the entire premise of Heavenly Host is based off of a similar event.) Ayumi’s loss of confidence in her parents may have stemmed from seeing how they allowed something bad to happen to Hinoe, and not deal with the issue directly. Interestingly, it was only a few years after thinking this that Hinoe decided to work for the Wicca Institute and help others with her spiritual abilities. It should be also noted that Ayumi responds to touch quite strongly. Cuddling with her sister was one of the ways she was often comforted, and it is through hugging her that Yoshiki stops her possession. However, this sensitivity to touch is also what causes her to respond violently when she realizes who is touching her. Relationships: “*Sob… Mochida-kun, please help me… Just tell me, ‘don’t give up’, and cheer me up like you always do…” (Ayumi on her feelings for Satoshi) She has a one sided attraction to Mochida Satoshi before and during Blood Covered. This apparently stems from the way he often cheered her up when she was feeling tired or depressed at school. As a person who is sensitive to others, and feels compelled to help them, Satoshi’s personality is an extremely warming presence. However, this attraction seems to have disappeared for the most part by the beginning of Blood Drive. When under the effect Darkening, Ayumi becomes highly possessive of Satoshi, even to the point of committing murder. This may indicate a much greater dependence on Satoshi for emotional support than was seen in the games. (As Ayumi is actually not as happy as she seems with her life, Satoshi’s personality may have been a larger factor in her mental health than previously expected.) “Sis… Sis…” (Ayumi, delirious from blood loss, calling for Hinoe while in the hospital after the events at the Shinozaki Estate) As stated before, Hinoe is one of the few people Ayumi trusts from the bottom of her heart. Cuddling with Hinoe was usually what would conclude her tear stained arguments with her parents, or any other negative event that happened to her. The death, and subsequent mutilation of Hinoe has dramatically exaggerated the wounds her heart, and confidence has taken. The two would often sit side by side on Hinoe’s bed, and talk about things for long periods of time. In a sense, Hinoe was almost like a second mother to Ayumi. However, Ayumi did not consult Hinoe on what happened at Heavenly Host. Whether this was because she did not want to trouble her, or because she didn’t think Hinoe would be able to help her is unknown. It should be noted that Hinoe was at home during the time between Ayumi’s return from Heavenly Host, and her leaving to find the Shinozaki Estate. Admittedly, Ayumi was spending most of her time at the library searching for information on Shinozaki Yoshie in the newspaper archives, but the fact that Ayumi did not confide in Hinoe seems odd in that light. (Perhaps, similar to how Saenoki Naho was when she uploaded the Sachiko Ever After charm onto her blog, Ayumi was already being influenced by something at this point that compelled her to reach the Shinozaki Estate.) She is good friends with the rest of the Kisaragi crew. Her relationship with Naomi prior to entering Heavenly Host was friendly, but with a small amount of jealousy. Being attracted to the same boy, she was uncomfortable with how much closer Naomi was with him than her. These negative emotions swelled up during her Darkening, resulting in her hostile actions towards Naomi. However, after the events of Heavenly Host, she sees a kindred spirit in Naomi; a person who is also seeking forgiveness for a crime they have committed. It is from the shared desire of redemption that causes the two to seek out the Shinozaki Estate. “You were always watching out for me… I noticed, you know?” “…” “Even if you forget me, I won’t forget you, Kishinuma-kun.” “…” “… That time you patted my head - -I was happy.” (Ayumi’s last words to Yoshiki) Ayumi and Yoshiki’s relationship is complicated. Before Blood Drive, they were friends on the outside, but with a little tension as Ayumi knew Yoshiki had feelings for her that were greater than friendship, even if she wasn’t interested. This is partially why she reacts quite violently to him when in close physical contact. However, after Heavenly Host, she begins to see him as a more reliable character. His numerous visits to the hospital during her recovery from the events at the Shinozaki Estate also strengthened her trust in him. The events of Blood Drive show her being more comfortable around Yoshiki, and willing to receive his help. But, whether she has come to return his love is inconclusive. Although it is true she cares about him a lot more at the end, than at the beginning, whether this is love or a very deep feeling of gratitude is indiscernible. Abilities: Psychometry Displayed in one of the Ex-chapters of 2U, Ayumi gains the ability to read the thoughts and emotions associated with items via the remains of spiritual energy left upon them. This seems to be an off shoot of her high level of spiritual sensitivity, and only active for a short time. High spiritual sensitivity Ayumi is incredibly sensitive to spiritual presences and effects, according to multiple members of the Corpse Party cast. It allows her to acquire information in the form of sporadic visions, and emotions from ambient spiritual energy. Although the ambient spiritual energy in the normal world is usually not concentrated enough for her to be affected, the closed space within Heavenly Host, and the Nirvana are saturated with a large amount of spiritual energy and information. Ayumi has no control of this ability, and as a result is often overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information she is bombarded with. This leaves her open to possession from spirits, and have her actions heavily influenced from the emotions remaining in the spiritual energy around her. The more directed version of this ability is psychometry, where one can direct their sensory capabilities towards certain objects, or individuals, as well as prevent themselves being overwhelmed by the information within spiritual energy. It is possible that this ability became temporarily upgraded into psychometry due to the prayer Takai Azusa’s chanted to ward off a spirit that was possessing her. Large amount of spiritual power “As I thought… Ayumi-chan your spiritual power is quite something, you know?” (Azusa to Ayumi about her spiritual power.) According to Azusa, Ayumi has a large amount of spiritual power, even before acquiring the distinct aura the survivors of Heavenly Host acquired from repetitively dying and restarting their fates. This is actually not too odd, as she does come from a lineage that was spiritual inclined. However, as she has never tried to use it before, her control of it is quite limited. Candles Strangely, she has a near limitless supply of candles in her possession, and never seems to run out. Additionally, there are times when these candles appear in places she hasn’t been to yet, or never had access in the first place. However, neither Ayumi, nor any of the cast find this fact strange. It is via these candles that the cast of Corpse Party save and restart their games. As Blood Drive has shown that even some gameplay elements are plot relevant, it may be possible that the candles may be more relevant than expected. It should be noted that in the games where escape is impossible, saving does not take place via the candles, but in games that do take place within Heavenly Host, and are meant to end with you escaping it, there are candles. Additionally, it should be noted that the scraps of the Sachiko Ever After charm are not what cause the Kisaragi crew to prevent themselves from dying. Surprisingly fast runner Although supposedly not very athletic, Ayumi’s sheer will power can force herself to physical limits she is not usually used to reaching. She matches Nakashima Naomi in a race to catch Mochida Satoshi in terms of speed, even though Naomi is both taller and more athletic than her. Shinozaki Blood Line As a member of the Shinozaki family, Ayumi has a number of added traits, both negative and positive. The two largest are; The Curse of the Shinozaki, and the ability to interact with the Pillars of the Nirvana Curse of the Shinozaki A curse that affects all blood related members of the Shinozaki family, that was apparently cast on it by its founder, Shinozaki Seira. It has two main effect. 1) Only female heirs are allowed. 2) The male parent, or the person marrying into the family, dies via asphyxiation upon the next heir reaching the age of 7.This death is attributed to ‘illness’ on the family tree. Although these two are the most visible evidence of the curse, there are other possible effects it may have. Its main objective seems to be to strengthen the Shinozaki family, but resisting it has grave implications for those involved. There were two major attempts to undo the curse. One was done by Shinozaki Makina. Her attempt was unsuccessful, and lead to her husband becoming afflicted with some sort of disability. He blamed his misfortune on her, and beat her. He died from 'illness’. The second attempt may have involved several members of the Shinozaki family, and lead to the death of Shinozaki Yuuki by 'accident’. It was during this second attempt that the first male heir of the Shinozaki was born. This was Ayumi’s father Shinozaki Ayato. Another un-named Shinozaki who was killed by Midzuki Magari may also have been from this generation, and her removal from the family tree may have been the result of this attempt to dispel the Curse of the Shinozaki. (It is possible that she was in fact named in the novel she appeared in. MIdzuki Magari calls her Shinozaki 'San’, which could be read as Shinozaki-san, or Shinozaki San. As San is an actual Japanese name, it may be that this un-named individual was actually called Shinozaki San) The Curse of the Shinozaki may have another more nefarious side to it, and that is the acquisition of males for a Shinozaki to continue the blood line with. The curse follows a pattern where only female children are born, and the men who marry into the family die as soon as a child reaches a survivable age. i.e. 7 years old (This is from the 7-5-3 festival in Japan.). From this, it seems to try and ensure a child is born from a union between a woman of Shinozaki blood and a man. The method of death seems to be strangulation; as the victim scratches at their throat painfully, and cyanosis appears. Another thing to note is the type of men that seem to be affected or attracted to the women of the Shinozaki. Shinozaki Seiji, Yoshie’s husband, had a face and character design that made him seem lonely, or socially distant. Character designs are often indicative of personality in anime and manga, so the fact they drew him like that suggests something about his personality. The other three people who are attracted to, or seem to be infatuated by a Shinozaki are; Yoshikazu, Yoshiki, and Misuto. Yanagihori is not included here as his attempt on Yoshie seemed to be overly aggressive, and Yoshie makes no mention of him being affected, even though she was researching the curse. Yoshikazu, Yoshiki, and Mist all have one thing in common. They were extremely isolated and alone when they met a Shinozaki. For Yoshikazu it was Sachiko. For Yoshiki it was Ayumi. For Misuto it was Hinoe. Added on with the point about Seiji, it seems as if the women of the Shinozaki attract men who are isolated from society, or feel distant and alone. They are people with an emptiness in their heart that don’t even care about themselves. Yoshikazu’s deteriorating mental state isolated him from the rest of the teaching staff and from his family. He reverted to carrying a doll made for him by his mother for comfort. Yoshiki gave up on life at school and was about to punch a teacher, since he felt he had no point being there. He felt that nobody cared about him at all. Mist lost his parents due to the mass media and what he would term normal society. He snapped and set fire to a reporter’s coat and hated the entire world, while believing he was hated by everyone. To each of these men, a Shinozaki appeared and offered them attention. From that point on, these men became attracted and infatuated with that woman. The way it seems to ensnare the man’s emotions is also interesting. Yoshikazu viewed Sachiko as his mother, and obeyed her like a child. Just like Sachiko herself loved her mother above everything else and would do anything to please her. Yoshiki tries to protect Ayumi with all his might, and is willing to sacrifice himself for her well being. Ayumi loves her friends and treasures them above everything and wishes to protect them. The Book of Shadows chapter and the game Blood Drive show her try to save her friends, no matter what, and is willing to even sacrifice herself for their salvation. Misuto was attracted to Hinoe, and was wished to kill those who wronged her. Hinoe once expressed that she wished to make everything except her family disappear when she was betrayed. Although the last note between Hinoe and Misuto is a bit loose, the way I think the Curse of the Shinozaki works is to take the Shinozaki’s greatest attraction and implants it in a male who has a gap in their heart, with the Shinozaki in question as the target. It selects isolated men who have given up on life for two reasons. 1) They have an opening in their heart or emotions that can be easily filled and exploited to like the Shinozaki 2) An isolated person who is cut off from both friends and family is much less likely to be searched for should he disappear. As the curse kills the man in the end, the less questions asked, the better. Additionally, all these men marry into the Shinozaki family. This means their possessions become the Shinozaki family’s after they die. By Japanese law, inheritance is first given to the spouse, then any other relatives the deceased may have. The Shinozaki family was supposedly very wealthy, even though they did not seem to have any major publicity or operations. The second reason may ease the transfer of funds and possessions much more easily in this situation. The women of the Shinozaki may not be exploiting this, as at least Yoshie was horribly distraught at her husband’s death. However, from seeing Seira’s enjoyment at Seiji’s suffering I wouldn’t put it past her to plan something like that. She doesn’t have a husband listed next to her, yet has three daughters and started up the Shinozaki household. Perhaps, the wealth the Shinozaki family started off with was gained by Seira killing off her husbands and acquiring their inheritances. Pillars of the Nirvana/The Six Demon Pillars(六鬼門の柱) The term 鬼門(Kimon)(Lit. Trans. Ogre Gate) comes from Onmyōdō, and is defined as the direction from where ogres and demons come from. It is used to describe something that is taboo or a vulnerability to someone. i.e. The heel was Achille’s 鬼門(Kimon). or Spider’s are an arachnophobiac’s 鬼門(Kimon). Ayumi recovers 6 gem like crystals of the pillars, which are held by guardians, and can only be recovered by a Shinozaki. They are: 0. Knowledge (知識)- A pillar of light, and the last pillar that held the Nirvana in control. 1. Crown (王冠)- A white crystal, recovered from a bushel of bodies hanging in the bell tower. 2. Foundation (基礎)- A purple crystal, recovered by mimicking the reflection in a mirror. 3. Mercy (慈悲)- A navy blue crystal, recovered by slaying a monster within the pool. 4. Victory (勝利)- A green crystal, recovered from the coils of a massive white snake* 5. Honor (光栄)- A gold crystal, recovered by remaining by the trunk of an alien tree. 6. Justice (正義)- A red crystal, recovered from the throat of a stone dog. It is not known who’s or what’s vulnerability these crystals were. However, the beings that possessed them seem to be allusions to myth or superstition. The white snake used to be a symbol of rebirth and renewal in Japan, and coiled white snakes were put on small altars to celebrate the new year. This tradition was adapted into the Kagami Mochi decoration. Additionally, there is a being known as the 'White Worm’ in Chapter 9 of the Book of Eibon, a text that appears in Corpse Party that is from Lovecraftian mythology. This creature consumed its prey alive, and unified them within itself, merging them into its collective intelligence. (Which may explain the mass of hands that grab Ayumi, and try to drag her inside it.) The White Worm lived in an mobile fortress of ice that floated upon the ocean, heralded by icebergs and freezing winds. A location similar in description to this icy palace appears in Blood Drive, and is walked through by Ayumi on her way to the core of the Nirvana. It is possible these pillars of the Nirvana are in fact the weaknesses of the guardians that hold them. These guardians in turn are either constructs of the witches, or related to them in some way and were sealed within the Nirvana along with the witches themselves. Due to their power, controlling them via their weaknesses may give a person enough strength to force the Nirvana to act under their command. If this is true, then the Nirvana houses far more than just the souls and knowledge of the witches, but beings with alien perceptions of reality beyond the capacity of humanity. It is also interesting to note that at least on one occasion, Ayumi seems to be protected from the guardians, and is only seriously endangered when she is with Yoshiki. The pillar Crown is recovered by Ayumi merely touching the guardian it is associated with, while her own reflection guides her through the way of recovering Foundation. Additionally, Honor is recovered by Ayumi merely standing before the tree that houses it, and the creatures that kill her in the bad end disappear with a sharp pinging noise, often associated with protective warding. It may be that Yoshiki’s proximity to the guardian triggered part of their security mechanism, causing them to attack Ayumi. This may also explain why Misuto observed Ayumi from afar via the argus cube, and why Magari only observed Ayumi from a distance. Master of the Book of Shadows Ayumi is the master of the Book of Shadows, and can use it to cast virtually any magic that is recorded inside it by willing it. Magic takes 3 concepts to function. They are: want, logic, and knowledge. Want directs the objective and goal of the magic. e.g. I want to get from point A to point B. Logic dictates its method of operations, and reasoning for its result. e.g. Movement occurs via acceleration of all particles at a uniform rate in vector AB(i.e. in the direction towards B). Knowledge provides the basis by which is is supposed to operate, giving it a frame of reference within which it manifests. e.g. Point A is at coordinates X1, y1, z1. Point B is at coordinates x2, y2, z2. Thus, movement from point A to point B should be from x1, y1, z1, to x2, y2, z2. The Book of Shadows takes over the latter two prerequisites of magic, while Ayumi merely provides the want to do so. Thus, Ayumi can cast virtually any magic she wants to without comprehension or understanding of its function. This does limit her magical ability to what is in the Book of Shadows, and it also mean her casting of what is in the Book of Shadows is limited to what she knows the Book of Shadows is capable of. In other words, her magical capability is constrained firstly by the limits of the Book of Shadows, and then again by what she knows is inside the Book. Thus, she is neither omnipotent, nor fully in control of the Book of Shadows. Additionally, the Book of Shadows will not cover any additional costs may incur. For example, if casting a fire ball requires using a frog as part of its logic, then the Book of Shadows will not supply the frog required to cast the spell. Thus, casting spells which either hurt the caster as part of their function, or require an additional resource is as difficult and risky as it would be for any other human being. As Ayumi herself is relatively unremarkable in the Book of Shadows’s eyes, her range of casting from it is again limited to spells that do not hurt her or require obscene amounts of spiritual energy as part of their function. Namesake The Shinozaki family have many names that are unusual in Japanese, even for old names. They occasionally sound more like titles or descriptors than names, or have strangely fitting meanings. e.g.: 罪御 - Zaion (Lit. Trans. Manipulator of Sin/Sin Manipulator) 静螺 - Seira (Lit. Trans. Spiral of Silence/Silent Spiral) 螺貴 - Raki (Lit. Trans. Spiral of Worth/Worthy Spiral) 護月- Makina (Lit. Trans. Shielding* Moon/The Moon that shields*) 千鶴- Chizuru (Lit Trans. 1000 cranes = Stemming from the idea that a crane lives a 1000 years, it is a name given wishing a long life with many children) (The names and translations of the Progenitor of the Shinozaki family, Zaion, with the founder Seira, and her three daughters.) *Shield is used here as a rough translation, but it actually conveys the idea of protecting something or someone via covering it with your own body. In other words, it is the protection of someone via self-sacrifice or substituting yourself with them. Makina’s spiritual abilities seem to based around the projection of a person or object onto a protective charm that attempts to shield its target from harm, even sacrificing themselves to do so. Chizuru had four children from one husband. This does reflect the message that is woven into her name. Although there is no information on Raki’s life or her abilities, Sachiko is her grand daughter, and the most powerful Shinozaki ever to have been born. Whether this is influenced by her namesake or not is unknown. Finally, the land upon which the Shinozaki Estate sits upon has a strange effect on the people who wander inside it. The truck driver Ayumi and Naomi ask to take them to the estate begins acting strangely the further they drive into the mountains, and begins to start speeding. He runs into a shadowy figure, and then comments that he didn’t hit it because it would make a much louder noise if he did. This man disappears after they go to investigate the estate, and is never seen again. The land the Shinozaki Estate manifests the sins of those who walk within it. The truck driver was probably a hit and runner, and his sins claimed him there. This place is supposedly the ancestral home of the Shinozaki family. In other words, this is the land where Shinozaki Zaion lived. If the effects seen here are the effect of Zaion’s power, then she must have been a powerful individual indeed. This may not be too surprising, as it is likely that she was involved with the construction or sealing of the Nirvana within the Book of Shadows. The Book of Shadows was handed to the Shinozaki family by Misuto’s grandfather. No matter how long he lived, he could not have done this before Raki’s generation. However, the Pillars of the Nirvana and the guardians have been attuned to the Shinozaki blood line from the very beginning. This is because the Nirvana was not opened up until Yoshie released it, making its content impossible to change from the outside before then. This means that the Pillars of the Nirvana were made to be taken out by a Shinozaki before they were sealed within the Book of Shadows. Given Zaion’s supposed affinity for sins, it is possible that the sealing of the Nirvana was her responsibility, as the Nirvana itself is the culmination of all the evils done in the name of purging magic and witchcraft during the witch hunts. In regards to Ayumi, as the concept of names and the power words have over being and objects is key in Corpse Party, it may be that Ayumi’s own name carries some degree of power or compulsion. You know, this could have been useful if you didn't mix your own interpretation/headcanon in it. I mean, it's very interesting to see your theories and explanations of what we didn't get to see, but when you start mixing them up, it can be confusing to tell which one is real and which one is your fictions. That defeats the purpose of "character profiles"; you just created another series. Separating which one is canon and which one is your theories would be great - and probably could have been helpful for others as a source of inspiration for fan games/fanfictions/whatever. But at this point, it just looks like an info-dump you pulled out of nowhere by inferring from and stretching small things to infinite proportion. This is especially true regarding Shinozaki bloodline. Hopefully I didn't offend you, but this is what I personally feel. I think your contribution to the fandom is great, but instead of being informative, you're more like "passing your headcanons" as truth, which is very misleading. For the record, I try to keep my material that is unverified in brackets. However, large parts of this particular profile were written in previous sittings, so there may have been large sections that were missed. I think the only sections that were unverified were the events that may have happened to Hinoe, and the material in the abilities section which is one of the more looser areas of the profiles, since I've been getting away with putting in jokes there. If you see any other areas that might look strange, feel free to tell me about them. Edited by Zaion, November 8, 2015, 8:34 pm.

Shinohara, Seiko![]() (Art from Dom with permission.) 篠原 世以子 (しのはら せいこ) Age: 16 Height: 154 cm (5’1”) Weight: 44.0kg (97lb) Birthdate: December 22, 1992 Blood Type: B Student Life: “Even Shinohara, who’s been a little gloomy due to her situation at home, has become brighter after meeting you and Nakashima-san.” (Yamazaki to Yui on the effect she has had on her students) Although she is bright and perky at school now, Seiko wasn’t always as cheerful as she is now. Having lost her mother a few years ago, Seiko is responsible for most of the house chores, and taking care of her 3 younger siblings at home. Her father often comes home near midnight due to work, leaving her in charge of everything. “(I’m an idiot! Even though I knew Seiko’s mother disappeared several years ago…)” (Naomi berating herself over her words to Seiko.) The exact date of her Shinohara, Sayaka’s, her mother’s, disappearance is unknown. Naomi states that she disappeared several years ago, and the Corpse Party Blood Covered manga shows a distraught middle school Seiko searching for her mother. She lives near Nakashima, Naomi, and the two often go to school with each other. Her bright, carefree personality has made her many friends at Kisaragi Academy. Seiko: “H-hey, Naomi?” Naomi: “Hmm?” Seiko: “Do you have any bum medicine? The topical stuff.” Naomi: “Huh? You’re having them again?” Seiko: “Ye~ah, my bottom’s not been doing too well recently.” Naomi: “If it’s the usual salves, then I’ve got some. Here…” Seiko: “Tha~nk you~! Alright then, I’ll just go coat myself up!” (The infamous “Butter up my pooper” segment properly translated.) Seiko suffers from hemorrhoids quite often. This may be due to the high amount of stress she suffers from taking care of her younger siblings, while also attending school. (Japan Fact! : Hemorrhoids is actually quite common in Japanese culture, with 1 in 3 individuals suffering from some form of it. Due to many not seeking treatment out of shame or embarrassment, they often go untreated, resulting in a escalation of their condition until surgery may be required. To combat this, commercials for hemorrhoids and hemorrhoid related products are quite regular on Japanese TV. The high incidence of hemorrhoids among the Japanese is put down to a high stress work environment, and long work/school hours. This is true for Japanese children as well, where incidences of hemorrhoids have been increasing over the years.) Personality: “… N-Naomi. Cheer up! We’ll figure something out. No way the two of us are gonna die! I’ve got a trim booked at the beauty salon first thing in the morning tomorrow. Oh, and we’re going to get our bicycles fixed in the afternoon. You’re coming with me, right?” (Seiko trying to cheer up Naomi) Optimistic, merry making, and goofy Seiko is the mood maker of the group. However, most of her attempts of setting the mood often focus on making the situation surreal, or by being ridiculous as can be seen below. Seiko: “*Exaggerated sob* Take care of yourself, okay? *More exaggerated sobbing* I’ll always be watching over you…” Naomi: “Uh… Seiko? Seiko?” Seiko: “gently, kindly, from beneath the sod…” Naomi: “That means you’re supposed to be dead, you know?” (Seiko lightening the mood over Mayu’s school transfer, as Naomi plays the straight man.) However, Seiko’s cheery nature is partially a facade. Even though visibly frightened by what she sees in Heavenly Host, she swiftly tries to cover it up by acting as ridiculous as she always does. (In a sense, it could be said that she acts overly positive to get away from the negative things that keep her down.) Seiko: “Na-Oh-Mii- Sa~n!” Naomi “Wha-?! Hey! Seiko! nngh!” Seiko: “Whoa… This is… Naomi, your bust’s grown by 3 cm since yesterday!” Naomi: “Keep. Your. Mouth. Shut! *Pinching sounds*” (Seiko and Naomi at the Heavenly Host Highland Amusement Park) Most of her jokes tend to be perverted, and with a lot of associated skin-ship with Naomi. She often compliments the shape of Naomi’s bust and bottom, saying she has child-bearing hips. “I wonder if Yuu and the others are getting hungry about now…” (Seiko wondering on the status of her siblings while in Heavenly Host) Her family is very important to her, and she worries about her siblings a lot as all three of them are in elementary school. She participates in a lot of skin ship with them, as she does with Naomi, (possibly hinting that Seiko still suffers from some form of separation anxiety. The Corpse Party manga shows a middle school Seiko fearing that everyone will leave her behind, including her father, and Yuu after her mother disappears. It may be possible that the disappearance of her mother has left her with some level of anxiety of being left behind.) Naho: “Taguchi-san, Inumaru-kun’s barely breathing.” Inumaru: “Urk… Ughhh… well played… Seiko…chan…” *Collapses Naomi: “Seiko… What a scary girl…” Seiko: “It’s not like that!” (Inumaru, Taguchi, Sayaka, Naho, Seiko, Naomi, and Sachiko in the middle of a “Hail to the king” game.) Seiko is not above cheating in games to get her way. Whether it’s to avoid punishment, or gain a chance to fondle Naomi’s bosom, she is more than willing to try a few dirty tricks to get her way. This often results in Naomi’s angered fist smacking her over the top of the head, or pinching her cheek in chastisement. However, Seiko will not (permanently) endanger her friends in order to get her way. It is hinted in 2U that she gave up pursuing Naomi romantically, in order for her to survive in Blood Covered. Seiko’s decisions in Chapter 5 of 2U, and her seeming greater recollection of the events that proceed in Blood Covered suggest this. The “Wrong Ends” of 2U are endings that do not follow into the canon of Blood Covered. (e.g. failure to save Kibiki in Chapter 3 means Naho fails to acquire Sachiko’s promise of keeping Taguchi, Kibiki, Sayaka, and her in the same dimension. This promise is what allows the darkened Naho to find Kibiki and kill him, as all of them were in the same dimension as per Sachiko’s promise, but in different locations of the school.) The Wrong End of Chapter 5 has Naomi admit that she felt sexually aroused when Seiko was tickling/fondling her breasts in an internal monologue, which she was accidentally voicing the entire time. Seiko questions her about this, before asking her if she wants to be tickled in more places as well. This results in Naomi blushing and running off into the darkness of Heavenly Host with Seiko running after her. As this is a Wrong End of 2U, the fact that Naomi develops sexual feelings towards Seiko appears to either prevent her from escaping Heavenly Host, or prevents her from achieving certain factors that are required for the events in the canon to proceed. The correct end of this chapter has Naomi begin to have murderous thoughts towards Seiko, and almost has her attack Seiko due to that. The two routes can be separated by multiple decisions, including what numbers have been drawn in the “Hail to the King” game, but when Seiko is in control of the situation, it is her actions that result in a Wrong End or an End. In addition to that, it is suggested that Seiko remembers a lot more about what happened in Blood Covered than the others, as she remembers the way she died and apologizes for her actions, stating that “it’s been a while since I(Seiko)’ve been able to go crazy with Naomi like this, so I went a bit over the top.” Seiko and Naomi had a sleep over the day before the events of Heavenly Host where Seiko groped, bathed, asked for Naomi’s hand in marriage, and was her usual crazy self. This seems to suggest that Seiko understands that the time they’ve spent in Heavenly Host is a lot longer than the single day they perceive, and has also been separated from, or not been able to have fun with Naomi during that time. Sachiko brought people from the past, present, and future for her birthday in 2U. (Which version of Seiko is the one that is enjoying the birthday with everyone? It can’t be the one which hasn’t died yet in Heavenly Host, as she remembers dying. But, if it is the one who died, how far in the future is she from? A minute after her death? An hour? Days? Weeks? Months? Time in Heavenly Host is wildly disjointed from the time outside of it, and even inside itself. The fact that this Seiko, who remembers how she died, and also remembers that there has been a long time where she and Naomi haven’t been able to play around and have fun, can still act cheerfully speaks volumes about her character. It also shows how much she cares about Naomi, as she is willing to have Naomi be mad enough to attack her, instead of sexually interested in her, so that Naomi can rejoin the events of Blood Covered and follow the route that allows her to escape.) Relationships: Seiko: “Naomi?” Naomi: “Hmm?” Seiko: “I’m screwing up my courage to say this…so, um…” Naomi: “Mmm?” Seiko: “Um…” Seiko: “Actually, it’s ‘kay! Aha ha ha!” Naomi: “What’s with that? It’s gonna bother me now. Say it.” Seiko: “You won’t laugh?” Naomi: “Yeah. If you don’t want me to, I won’t.” Seiko: “I’m… serious.” Naomi: “Eh?” Seiko: “…” Naomi: “…” Seiko: “We don’t know what’s going to happen here, so I want to tell you properly.” Naomi: “Yeah…” Seiko: “So… U-Um… Could you kiss me?” Naomi: “EEH?!” Seiko: “I want to do it.” Naomi: “Why…?” Seiko: “Because I like you.” Naomi: “As a friend… right?” Seiko: “… …” Naomi: “Are you serious?” Seiko: “Enough to marry you, and kiss you, and hug you.” (Seiko and Naomi in Corpse Party: Book of Shadows Chapter 1) Seiko is in love with Naomi, but never seriously pursues her. The knowledge of Naomi’s attraction to Satoshi has her unable to take the next step to confess in most routes, preventing her from taking the next step. This has not stopped her from engaging in plenty of skin-ship with Naomi, where she takes every opportunity to fondle and grope Naomi she can get. Naomi views this as mostly joking, even though she does admit that their closeness is a bit strange for “just friends”. The fact that both of them have lost a parent gives them a sense of camaraderie as well. Other things they have in common is their love of cats, small children, and family. The two have been friends for a long time, but even though they are quite close, neither had invited the other over to their house until the sleep over before the Heavenly Host incident. (This is not too strange in Japanese culture, as children often hangout outside school in public areas instead of their homes. This is partly due to the heavily urbanized nature of Japanese cities, meaning their are plenty of places to go to have fun without being at home. Game centers, karaoke places, movie theaters, and shopping malls are easily accessible via public transportation and are more popular locations to congregate than home. Additionally, many children state that their parents being present prevents them from feeling relaxed as a reason for playing outside.) (The above was cited as one of the factors that allowed the kidnapping and murder of Hirada Natsumi (13) and Hoshino Ryouto (12) who left home after a fight with their parents and were abducted while they were hanging out at midnight at the local market place. Kidnappings have also been increasing in Japan in recent years, with low parental surveillance being brought up as a reason for this increase. Komiya Nobuo, a professor of criminology at Rissho University, has commented that Japan’s “hard-worker” culture and high number of commuters is supporting this trend, as those two factors prevent parents from simply increasing parental surveillance.) Seiko is supportive of Satoshi and Naomi’s relationship, often dropping lines egging Naomi on. This, and her actions in 2U suggest that her love towards Naomi is strong enough to ignore not being loved back in return, as long as Naomi is happy. (Curiously, Ayumi catches a glimpse of Seiko as well as Sachiko when she glances at a mirror in the Shinozaki Estate. As Sachiko was actually following Ayumi, as revealed in Blood Drive, it is possible that Seiko may have been following Naomi in a similar fashion. However, her souls was found in Heavenly Host during the events of Blood Drive, so it is possible that the mirror at the Shinozaki Estate was not showing spirits that were following them, but spirits that were worried about them.) She also cares about her other friends, offering Ayumi a few comforting words when she is communicated with via a Ouija board in Blood Drive. (Her main worry was whether Naomi was doing alright or not.) Seiko: “Ufufu. I know her ‘beloved’ Mochida-kun. Even though she’s like this, Naomi-san is actually quite the late bloomer in that sense.” Naomi: “Seiko~ Stop. Stop.” Natsumi: “You are rather well-informed. Hey, why don’t we go out together next time? I’ll treat you to something tasty, so tell me what’s Naomi like at school.” Seiko: “It would be my pleasure. Mother.” Naomi: “Hold on!” She and Natsumi, Naomi’s mother, became friends relatively quickly, with Natsumi offering to essentially bribe Seiko into telling her what Naomi was like at school. Similar to Naomi, Natsumi brushes off Seiko’s talk of marrying Naomi and referring to her as “mother” as Seiko joking. (In a sense, Seiko is both joking and being serious.) Seiko is very close to her family, with Yuu, the eldest among the three, saying she reminds him of their mother quite often. The four were planning to prepare a surprise party for their father on the evening that the Heavenly Host incident occurred. (Their communal bathing isn’t strange by Japanese standards, where public bathing still occurs.) She cooks, bathes, and even attends to their wounds when they get hurt. Abilities: Cooking Skills Seiko is capable of cooking most house hold dishes, and also volunteers to assist Naomi in defeating her opponents during a cooking show. Fleet of Feet Seiko was the first in the obstacle course race that was being done in 2U, with her agility and speed being the prime reasons for her ability to avoid traps and obstacles. The other competitors were: Kishinuma Yoshiki, Morishige Sakutaro, Fukuroi Masato, Kurosaki Kensuke, Yamamoto Mitsuki, and Inumaru Haruyuki. First Aid Skills Splinting Naomi’s foot demonstrates that Seiko does have some degree of first aid knowledge. Mental Fortitude Seiko is one of the few spirits in the Nirvana that still retains their sanity. She no longer possesses a physical form, but is not hostile towards any of the characters and even offers words of comfort towards Ayumi. As death in the Nirvana means continually re-experiencing that death for eternity, the fact that Seiko still remains sane shows that she is extremely resilient. Additionally, she was also able to send multiple text messages to Naomi, even after death in order to help her combat her darkening. Mental Link (Naomi’s assistance required) 2U has a couple instances where Naomi is able to convey her emotions to Seiko, mostly in Chapter 1. The two have also been shown to be pretty close, with Seiko often predicting Naomi’s thoughts or worries before hand. This is more likely an effect of the two being friends for a while, rather than this ability. Additionally, as this ability is only mentioned a few times, and only occurs under extreme stress, it is likely this is a one off occurrence. Mental Restoration (Naomi’s assistance required) Seiko ingests curry containing a spice that accelerates Darkening during Chapter 6 of 2U and becomes delirious, almost zombie like. Naomi restores her mental state by running up to her and shaking her, where Seiko’s face somehow becomes embedded in Naomi’s bosom. This results in her Darkening being removed, and removes the effect of the spice. Whether this effect can be replicated is unknown. Parallel Route Awareness Seiko mentions that she remembers that she died in Heavenly Host, and also refers to “hanging” when playing a game based on mentioning different ways to die. She also mentions that it has been a while since she’s been able to play with Naomi like she did in 2U, even though from her perspective, it should have only been one day since her sleep over with Naomi. It is also possible that she knows that Naomi has to be angry at her in order to progress the events of Blood Covered, as Chapter 5’s true end seems to suggest that Seiko knowingly antagonized Naomi to some degree. A few other characters remember their own deaths during the events of 2U, but most require some degree of prompting (e.g. seeing the object that killed them, being in a similar situation, etc.), where Seiko seems to know the fact that she died without any prompt. Rapid Undressing Naomi remarks that Seiko is strangely skilled in the art of undressing someone when Seiko strips her of her clothing in record time before entering the bath during Book of Shadows. Seiko explains it as an acquired skill due to having to undress her younger siblings often in order to get them to bathe. Sneak Chapter 6 of 2U has Seiko infiltrate Naomi’s opponents during a cooking competition with a simple disguise of sunglasses and a fedora. She still manages to trick Kizami, although he was largely indifferent to who tried his curry due to him having drugged it with a Darkening accelerating spice. She is also cunning enough to trick Yoshikazu into causing a commotion outside of Kizami’s tent, so she could investigate what Kizami was doing to his curry that seemed to turn his patrons into zombies. |

Inumaru, Haruyuki![]() (Art from Dom with permission) 犬丸 晴行(いぬまる はるゆき) Age: 17 Height: 184 cm (6’0”) Weight: 65.3kg (143.6lb) Birthdate: July 31, 1990 Blood Type: B Student Life: Childhood friend of Ooue, Sayaka. Their houses are apparently next to each other. He is a loner at school with virtually no other friends aside from Naho, Sayaka, and Aiko. However, he remains bright and unconcerned of his social isolation. In fact, he admits to himself, and everyone around him that all he needs is Sayaka. Sayaka: “Oh, but that guy’s off training in the mountains (laughs), so he’s out—!!!! Better luck next time sucker~~” Naho: “Training in the mountains?” Satsuki: “Yeah, but it’s just Inumaru who’s gone, so his family is still at home. It actually feels peaceful there now.” (Naho and Sayaka about Inumaru during Corpse Party CEMETERY 0 ~ The Genesis of Ars Moriendi) He has been absent from school for extensive periods of time to train in mountain temples to improve his spiritual abilities in order to protect Sayaka from spirits. Also, he apparently constantly bothers Sayaka and her family on a daily basis. Sayaka: “Throw them away! Actually, make doubly sure and burn them!” Inumaru: “EEh?! Aren’t these a really important present from your mother for last year’s birthday?” Sayaka: “Oh come on, why do you know all those details! I don’t want them anymore! I’ll apologize to my mother later!” (Inumaru and Sayaka during Corpse Party 2U) Inumaru knows a lot about Sayaka’s personal life, and his favorite hobby is fantasizing about her. However, he has never attempted anything physical with her, mostly due to any action or word from him being met with an immediate physical retort from Sayaka. He is referred to as “Stupid Dog!” by Sayaka most of the time. His classmates admit that he is good looking, but his obsession over Sayaka turns off many potential admirers. Personality: His personality is, much like a stereotypical dog’s, massively positive, full of energy, and clingy. He shows more than a few stalker-like tendencies, but all in all is relatively harmless. (As his obsession is based solely around Sayaka.) In short, his personality can be summarized with “Sayaka-love”. Besides his love for Sayaka, there isn’t really much to him. Everything he does, and thinks about is for her in some way. Even the intense spiritual training he went through was all so he could better protect Sayaka, due to her large amount of spiritual energy, and kind nature making her an attractive target for wandering spirits. He claims that is not Sayaka’s physical appearance that attracts him to her as he says that he would love Sayaka whether she suddenly turned into a wrinkled old granny, or an elementary school student. Taguchi: “Oooh! The way you glance at me, filled with contempt, almost as if you’re looking at a cockroach! That look really suit you, Naho-chan!!” Inumaru: “… ohhhhkay …” Taguchi: “Huh?! What’re you all pullin away for?! I thought that, as a guy, at least you’d feel the same about this as me! Inumaru: “No, I am completely unable to understand it.” Taguchi: “Oh, come on~. Don’t you feel something by just imagining Sayaka-chan acting like that towards you, Inumaru-kun? Inumaru: "My angel won’t act like that towards me, so…” Sayaka: “What are you saying?! Are your eyes even working? (Corpse Party 2U Chapter 3 Taguchi revealing that he enjoys being abused by Naho, and frantically trying to find allies.) As a side note, he is not a masochist. Sayaka’s attacks do hurt him, but he constantly rationalizes them as her being embarrassed by her own feelings of attraction towards him, and lashing out. In addition to that, he further rationalizes her attacks against him as something he is responsible for, as he is embarrassing her. Thus, even though he does not enjoy the beatings, he does not see them as detrimental to their relationship, or even a sign that she is not interested in him. This is made most apparent when an actual masochist (Taguchi) tries to relate to him on the issue of being abused. (Then again, most people would not openly admit to being a masochist. Taguchi is just a pervert as well. (Who wears frilly women’s underwear. (No, I am not joking.))) Sayaka: "Just how many times do I need to tell you… there’s a more suitable woman for you out there! You stupid dog!” You could call him self-deluded, or in denial, but he may have been more correct than immediately obvious. Sayaka’s words in Blood Drive suggest that Sayaka was attracted to Inumaru, but rejected him due to her not believing she was worthy of his affection. In that sense, Inumaru was correct in believing that Sayaka like him. Aiko; (This is- - an “Inu(狗)”! Is this what happens when people with high spiritual abilities become darkened………? Haruyuki-kun’s protective spirits are going out of control!) Upon learning of Sayaka’s death, his love for her is quick to turn into hatred towards anyone who might have caused her death. As Darkening cannot invent new behaviors, had Sayaka died in the real world, it is very likely that he would have reacted in a similar manner. (i.e. begin to blame those around her for causing her death.) (It should be noted that even though the character used by Aiko is equatable to dog, it is not the one used colloquially. 犬 vs 狗 However, the character she uses is used to describe some low level “Tengu” 天狗 or “Guhinn” 狗賓. Tengu are often characterized as demons in anime and manga, but in mythology they were originally treated in the same way Bodhisattvas and gods. Their responsibility was to instill fear and bring misfortune to those who disrespected the mountains and nature, while giving protection and serving as messengers for the mountain gods. It was important for wood cutters and foragers to gain the trust of a “Guhinn” before attempting to enter the mountains. These “Guhinn” were said to have the form of a wolf with the mouth of a dog, Most of Japan sets their rank as the lowest of the Tengu, but Hiroshima diverges from that trend by having them ranked as the most powerful Tengu in existence. Aiko’s referral to Inumaru as a 狗 may suggest that the basis of some of these mythologies may have arisen from sightings of darkened individuals with high spiritual abilities in the Corpse Party universe.) Relationships: Technically, the only relationship he has is with Sayaka. All other people are only of interest due to their relation to Sayaka. However, he does not try to prevent anyone from getting close to Sayaka. This is most telling with Naho, who frequently endangers herself and Sayaka while investigating spiritually significant areas. In that sense, he is a lot better than your average stalker, who would attempt to monopolize the target of his/her affection. This does not prevent him from blaming Aiko for Sayaka’s death, as she was the one who gave Naho the information that lead both of them there. Ironically, even though he does have spiritual abilities and has had spiritual training, he is the only member of the spiritually aware students at Paulownia Academy that is unaware of Midzuki Magari’s true identity. Then again, most of Magari’s attacks and interactions with Naho, Sayaka, and Aiko occurred while he was away training in the mountains, so there is an explanation for him not knowing. However, it is pretty telling how far Naho and Sayaka kept him out of the loop though, as neither bothered to tell him about what Magari had done to them. (A brief list would include: trying to break Naho’s and Sayaka’s friendship, murdering several middle and high school girls, kidnapping, cutting Naho’s abdomen open with a guillotine, squishing her eyeballs, and taking videos of it to upload to NihoNiho vidoes before healing her with spiritual surgery.) Abilities: Spiritual sensitivity (requires Naho): Inumaru and Naho are able to cooperate and track down Sachiko’s location by following the streams of spiritual energy she exudes. They managed to find her, even when she was invisible, possibly dimensionally shunting herself to make her harder to find. Protective Spirits: Inumaru has several protective spirits around him that protect him from spiritually negative effects. This protection is not complete, as he is still capable of becoming deluded, or become trapped in illusions, but they can prevent lethal damage to him through darkening. Inu 狗 status: After darkening, Inumaru gains increased strength, allowing him to throw a metal locker at Aiko almost crushing her. It additionally gives him the ability to tear off Aiko’s and Ayumi’s heads off with only his teeth. Edited by Zaion, April 9, 2016, 12:29 pm.
