I'm just curious. Suppose that you are inflicted by the Darkening yet somehow you managed to escape Heavenly Host but you still carry the Darkening with you. What implications could it have in the real world and can you still recover from it? I have my own ideas but I would just like to hear from all of you first what you think about it.

i think darkening is like as a smoke heavenly host is fully concentrated with darkening. as we could see in the game i also think that real world has darkening but not in a significant level that will cause heavy signs such as spewing dark waters darkening is seen reliant on negative emotion e.g satoshi and yoshiki did not manifest darkening that easily as both persons are have strong hearts while naomi gets it about 2-3 hours in arrival in hh (estimated) as she couldnt handle the pressure of hh upon her so i guess, if you escape hh..the darkening levels should drop by time..as there isnt a source of darkening and the real world is much safer than hh hence no pressure.. of course that includes the medium afflicted such as ayumi and naomi ..on the other hand the heavy darkened will i guess be crazy but not to the point of exploding into dark dust i guess thats how i see darkening...of course this is just an educated guess based on what i play and read

I think the darkening is related to the nature of the closed spaces itself. Because of that, I don't think the darkening can exist outside HH. The Darkening fosters dark emotions, but I don't think they are one and the same.. So while, yes, the mark the darkening left on you, can very well trigger dark emotional states, such a depression, but it won't be the actual darkening from HH. Couldn't have said it better myself. I simply can't see the Darkening existing outside of Heavenly Host. When Yuki (in the true ending) tells Ayumi that she has started to be overcome and that they need to escape quickly, I got the impression that it was like "As long as you escape, you're okay." I mean, if the Darkening could exist outside of the school, they might *all* carry some back simply because of the weight of their dead friends. I just don't think that's possible -- I just think it would manifest in normal ways such as deep depression and and yes, as Gurluas said, dark emotional states.
