Kinin

Basic Information

Name: Kinin Ballard

Furcadia Name: Kinin

Gender: Female

Age: 18

Race: Human: Highlander

Deity: Dimhaaven: Since her move she has since adopted worship of the local gods, specifically the one most similar to her homelands God of the Knights.

Size/Body Type: Average with toned arms

Height: 5'7"

Weight: 150 lbs

Alignment: (Good

Hair: Pale blue, tightly bound and braided to her head. Unbraided falls to mid thigh, not often seen.

Eyes Blue

Complexion: Tanned from working constantly in the sun, heavily freckled

Defining Features: Being very feminine in appearance makes it hard for any man to take the girl seriously, despite her hard work and efforts. Hair is tightly bound and braided, forced into shapes settled on her head, the most common being the braided 'rose'.

Scars: With training comes bumps and bruises, small scars from whatever training she's gone through are as frequent as the freckles on her skin.

Likes: Training, her shield, adventure, anything sweet

Dislikes: Bitter things, snow, smart alecks, getting lost and having to ask for directions

Personality: A quiet and determined girl with a drive who strives for greatness, she wants nothing more than to serve and protect with only her shield in hand. Despite being soft spoken, that doesn't stop her rambling mouth and words from getting her in serious trouble on occasion.

Mannerisms: She stresses too much. If she can't do something right the first time she tries over and over.. and over.. again until she feels like she's gotten it right. This can include hours of unnecessary training that wear her down physically. When she isn't out training she can commonly be seen reading or writing poetry, taking that about as seriously as her desire to become a knight.

Distinct Information

Trade and/or Skills: Knight in training. She is still quite lacking. Does not know how to properly use a sword and relies on her shield for both defense and offense. Easily ranked as a 'knight with training wheels' until she can find someone to teach her more.

Skill Level: Despite having a sorceress for a mother, Kinin is the odd child out and has next to no magical capability whatsoever. Self training and developing her own 'style' as means to protect and fight with a shield alone has left her quite lacking in her abilities. She will not develop beyond being an 'adept' unless she finds someone to train her.

History: Raised in the far north, Kinin's thirst for adventure started with her father.

A knight by tradition, Westus Ballard was born in the small kingdom of D'lach Dulead, known for its knights. Westus served his country until an injury left him crippled at the age of 45. Desiring still to adventure, he traveled far north to Heimbrach the crystal city, home to the magically capable and famous.
It was here that he met Calla, a sorceress with several young apprentices of her own. The two started out as two people who could not stand the sight of one another before the webs of love were slowly spun. The lovers were married and relocated to a small village outside of Heimbrach where Kinin was born.

As a child it was made apparent that Kinin wanted to become a knight just as her father had been. He made a shield of lightweight wood for her that she practiced with day in and out until she was forced to come inside, otherwise she'd work well into the night. It became apparent that she'd been born with her father's courage, taking little heed to the dangers of the forest they lived so close to, delighting in the wildlife.

The young girl aged well into her teens and as was tradition for her mother's side, Calla began to look for proper husbands that would make her daughter's life pleasant. Of course no interest in marriage at the age of fourteen ensured that a certain stubborn streak ran well in her blood, thanks to her father, and she snubbed any that her mother sent her way or that came knocking on her door out of their own foolishness.

For a year her mother searched and for a year Kinin turned away from her suitors. Finally her mother stopped setting her up and Kinin was content to continue her training uninterrupted.

It was at the age of sixteen that her father finally felt she was mature enough to hold and use a real shield, the crippled man desiring to pass on what he knew and could remember. He gifted her a shining blue and gold shield the day of her birthday but passed away the same evening from a heart attack.

Kinin and her mother were affected as wife and child should be, the young girl even stopping in her training for an adequate amount of time to mourn before resuming practice with her shield as her father would have wanted.
However the mother was not the same. Calla became solitary and retreated to the quiet of her library. She no longer harassed Kinin about marriage nor even bothered to call the young girl in from practice, the young girl losing track of time more frequently.

The young woman grew concerned for her mother but thought nothing of it, knowing it pained her mother to be without her soul mate, trying to reassure her that his spirit would live on with them both. It didn't change Calla's weepy demeanor and the woman began to inflict harm not only on herself but on her daughter as well through magical means.
Another year passed and the level of emotional pain and eventual detachment lead to an emptiness in Kinin's heart that her mother could no longer fill.

The sorceress sensed this and in one final sense of clarity gave her daughter a pendant that would keep her heart 'under lock and key' until her soul mate came along. Calla had gifted the last bit of her soul into the trinket as a means to watch over her daughter, unknown to the young girl.
With this gift also came the passing of her mother's physical body and Kinin's resolve to venture out into the world on her own at the age of seventeen.

Setting out she traveled mostly by sea to different cities and continents, visited different kingdoms in search of a master that could help her learn and improve her technique but all searches fell short. Finally traveling by land to Cragsfall, she hopes to find a master willing to teach as long as she is willing to learn.

Character Description: The Shield of the far North. Big oval eyes were unassuming, naive in every sense of the word with a face to match. Aqua hair had been pulled back and braided, unique shaped bun settled on side of head, resembling a rose. Spontaneous youth bared freckled shoulders and arms, small chest covered by white hued material while a thick leather belt held up fanned out shorts. Thick leather boots protected feet although one had to wonder if it was necessary when they saw the great shield she carried on her person at all times. Yet one wondered still when they took noticed of the golden lock hung around her neck.

Sample Post: Kinin sat outside a rinky dink rest stop near a seemingly abandoned ferry post. An adventure was to be had, she reasoned with herself. Yeah, after several days worth of walking without an inn to be found. Grumbling under her breath the aqua haired teen would open what little she had left of her rations, breaking off a piece of stale bread and cramming it in her mouth. Chewing viciously, she'd glance up when she realized a small boat carrying two people was headed her way. Standing immediately she'd bustle over, shield on her back weighing her down a bit, "Where is this headed? Can you take me over?" When she was given the ok she'd step down onto the ferry, settled in, "Onward to... Cragsfall!!" Shrieked with excitement although it was made evident the two men guiding the boat weren't as enthusiastic to have to work more than they already had for the day.
