I think so. Messi isn't going to win it every year. |

Had a read of this article which was posted by someone on another thread... http://themigtoc.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/ballon-dor-debacle/ I completely agree with this quote.. "Host the FIFA BDO in August. At that point in time the club season will be finish and still fresh in voters’ minds, it will be easy to compare statistics and trophies and any summer international competition will be concluded." I think its nonsensical to continue to judge who the best player in the word was for a calender year, it should be done based on the football season. Who remembers 2010 when Sneijder was instrumental to Inter Milan winning the treble and also played in a World Cup final yet was not named in the top 3 players in the world? |

Interesting Ronaldo and Messi didn't vote for each other http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/fifa-ballon-dor-10-things-we-learned-from-the-voting-including-lionel-messi-and-cristiano-ronaldo-were-desperate-to-win-9059150.html |

Saw that, plus Yaya Touré commands fantastic loyalty from Africans. Also liked this picture, a little manipulative but lots of fun:

I saw that Yaya had the second most votes among premier league players behind RVP. I am sure that made you squirm. Of course in your warped mind, it had to be other Africans voting for him. Poor, poor Santry! By the way, I looked up and down on that list for "Mr. Own Goal" Richard Dunne and couldn't find him. Where is he these days Mr. Moderator? I saw the breakdown of how they Photoshopped this. It's really funny. Almost as funny as Messi's red suit. WTF is that shit? At least go all out with some red shoes to match. |

As it's understood that this thing is open to partisanship it's fine to back your man. I understand that Yaya hoovered up 2/3 of the votes he got from Africa, especially African journalists. With few current continental rivals and no dilution factors that's to be expected. It would seem that Messi comes from a continent with less solidarity. If he didn't have this strong cohort of identification would he have even been mentioned... Doubt it. Among the European nations you generally get more discernment and less block voting. For example Robbie Keane voted for Ronaldo, while Martin O'Neill voted for Messi. It's interesting that you mention Richard Dunne. He's the player who has barely played in two years without back injections. The same one who was in the team of the year around 2008 and was rated by UEFA as the MVP during 18 months of qualifiers.... and for that he still awaits credit from you. The fact that he's now 5 years older, injured and near the end of his career must be why you are kicking so very hard. Of course it does nothing to disabuse people of the view that you are a coward. |

Photoshop! You have to say, there's no scuzz marks, and Ronaldo's hand is seamlessly integrated to that lady's leg. |
