He believes they are the chosen ones and it's only a matter of time before they win all competitions. The thing is City are living in a bubble right now and it is only a matter of time for that bubble to burst. They clearly believe the hype right now yet they have had a few close shaves in recent weeks but have been extremely lucky. I have a strange feeling that Cardiff would do them at home this weekend. Maybe it's the Arsenal fan in me talking but I can't wait for them to come down to earth.

LOL

I think the thread title is a bit misleading, as my initial thought was that he is talking about this season until I read the OP and the link.

Personally I don't think his assessments are far off reading the actual quotes, they definitely won't win the quadruple this season probably no more than two trophies.
If you consider the money City have got to throw around, then at some point it might be possible, but in England it's almost impossible to win all 4 trophies.

With only two competent CMs in the squad they'd be lucky to win the League...Cup.

When did Lescott and Nastasic become incompetent? They seem both to be solid backups and more than capable of spelling the first choice pairing against lesser competition or in some Cup games.

We can quibble about whether City have the deepest squad in the league, but they are at least among the deepest.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, they have central forward depth but they really have two central midfielders and at least one of them always seems to be playing every game. What Coty have is probably 3 of the top 5 strikers in the league and so they play a 4-4-2 to maximize their potential. I still can't see them getting past Barcelona, I can easily see them embarrassed in that game.

I can understand you dismissing city in the league because obviously then are in competition with Arsenal.I can remember you predicting in Nov/dec that Arsenal would win the league easily based on city's away form.you think they'll be embarrassed by Barcelona? Based on what? Come on now? You at least saw PSG against barca last season, teams with good strikers and good organisation normally punish barca because their defence is suspect.Man city will be anything but embarrassed by barca, it's 50:50 for me either team could go through.

Like I said few days ago Arsenal should be at least 6 points ahead of city based on squad depth alone. I've mentioned before that there are at least 3 clubs with a deeper squad than city - Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. Obviously spurs had coaching issue earlier in the season that's why they are where they are. I didn't mention united even though they too have a bigger squad, but that includes a 40 year old and about 6-8 players who should be playing for Swansea at best and a coach who have finally convinced me he has no business at united. Spurs , Chelsea and Arsenal have talents similar to city but a bigger squad than city.

Few things are more tempting to a writer than to repeat, admiringly, what he has said before.- John Kenneth Galbraith

I don't believe squad depth translates into points differential as straightforwardly as you'd like. At best your arbitrary six points overestimates the degree to which squad depth differs among the top sides. There's just not that much difference between City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

And your inclusion of Spurs in the discussion seems to confuse size of squad with true depth. The fact they have lots of interchangeable parts perhaps disguises the fact there aren't that many really good ones.
