The reason for this post is that we need to take a step back, take a deep breath and realize what’s happening here. We are on top of the table and are competing for the League after a long time. I don’t care bout the Cups. We always are here in at this stage. League is the true test of strength and OfCourse the CL is a true reflection of where we stand amidst the giants of Europe. We need to appreciate this team for the remarkable consistency after such a pathetic season last year. Last year's performance (especially in the first half disgusted me). Our defense is the big big reason for this. Kos and BFG are to be saluted. Our midfield depth is phenomenal. We never had this kind of midfield depth. Credit to Wenger for getting rid of the deadwood and trusting his intuition and belief in middle of huge pressure. I have been one of his biggest critics, but the way the man has handled himself is truly a lesson for all of us in our lives! We have never been in this position since 2007. So lets savor this and enjoy the view from the top. We haven’t won anything and the money bags are breathing down our necks. We don’t buy this winter, and one injury to either of our CF or the CB’s and we are screwed. I hope Wenger does not gamble such an important year and gets adequate backup. But whatever happens - we will be there rooting for this team! COYFG! Edited by KamyFC, Jan 20 2014, 06:17 AM.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this season, well everything after the opener against Aston Villa. I thought I was gonna need therapy following that match. The club has splashed the cash for a top player, kept the players that deserved to stay, shed almost all the deadwood, and like it or not to some, began playing in a much more pragmatic way which has seen us lead the league for the majority of the season. I still can't shake the feeling that we will fall just short in the league and I will be disappointed in that, but not angry about it. To stay firmly in the title race throughout the season would be much more than I could've envisioned at the start of the campaign. I had us pegged at best, a distant 3rd coming into the season behind Man City and Chelsea and we may end up finishing 3rd but I think we will be right there to the end. |

After 22 games last season, we had 34 points. This season we have 51. I've loved this season so far. I've enjoyed the beautiful passing along with the back to walls defending. In the summer people were laughing at the idea that we could compete with City/Chelsea without spending big on 4 or 5 players. But this team is proving them wrong, and it isn't done growing either. With another signing (or two), and with our young core continuing their development, we'll be even better next season. So we may very well fall short again, but feels good to be competing again. It feels good to be going toe to toe with the big spenders, and signing 42m superstars, and scoring beautiful team goals. And what's important is that we're improving, we're moving in the right direction. Our young players will only get better. Imagine Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox, Walcott, Gnabry, and Ozil in a couple of years. So much talent in this team. On top of that we have 80m in the bank we can splash on a marquee player. Ferguson said last spring that "Arsenal are putting together a team that's better than people think." He was absolutely right. |

When Ozil was signed and Flamini brought in, I figured that would make us competitive enough to challenge for the league title and get to the quarters or semis of the CL. I feel we missed a chance to get a notch higher when we left the CF position "as is". Given the dearth of suitable candidates in the current transfer window, that issue will remain unresolved for now, so I don't see much reason to change my original gut feeling as to how we'll do. Still, I like the OP because it reminds me of what I expected - significant progress, a solid foundation in place to win something (or somethings) next season, and a long overdue good-bye to the anxiety of barely scraping a CL spot. We remain well on track for all of that. This was the first off season I can remember where we didn't just tread water, plugging holes as quality players went elsewhere. We may yet win the league, or the FA Cup, but kamy's provided a nice reminder that leading indicators for future success are excellent. Edited by dsch15, Jan 20 2014, 11:29 AM.

In all seriousness, I always feel that as an Arsenal supporter, I have it pretty damn good. I would argue that this season is merely a pleasant culmination of many seasons of relative over-achievement. Our club has a resourceful manager with a keen eye for talent and is now able to complement those strengths with resources born of a proper business model. Title or no this season, this is a team on the rise with a nucleus of exciting young talent. So at the risk of stirring up far different emotions, I'll quote Coach Harbaugh who asks, "Who's got it better than us?" To which the entire team replies, "NOBODY." "And it's Arrrrr-senal, Arsenal FC!" |

Seattle did indeed have a 12th man. He wore black and white. Yes, I AM whining about the officials! |

The bad calls that went against the Niners ended up being mostly inconsequential. Seahawks were always going to be a tough match-up in their house with that D. Some better decision making by Kap would have seen them pulling the upset. As he has barely over a full-season (plus playoffs) of starting QB experience, we' can reasonably hope for better down the road. The brutality of this gladiator sport was never more in evidence than on the play where Bowman was injured. His knee was mangled, and it took at least 30 seconds to get all the players off of him who were scrambling for the ball. Edited by JustOneDennisBergkamp, Jan 20 2014, 02:44 PM.

I hate that mature, reasoned outlook, and I am just a homer. Buck and Aikman - certainly not SF lovers - we're harping on the 49ers getting screwed...until the 4th quarter got exciting and everyone forgot. You can't be sure 15 yards here and there were consequential...but you also can't be sure they weren't. And they ALL went against SF. You can be sure that had the roughing the kicker been called properly - the is rule book stuff, not judgement - the 49ers would have had 1st and 10 at the 40, instead of ceding great field position to Seattle, who promptly scored. Yes, better judgment by CK might have secured a different result, but the events are not mutually exclusive. The NFL is a mess, both the rules and the ability of the officials to correctly enforce them. As for Bowman (somehow 8 allstar officials missed him lying on the ground with the ball and nobody on him), yes, not pleasant, on the other hand no worse than Ramsey... |

Crybabies. Next you'll be telling us that Seattle were not uniformly classy in their post game remarks. |
