I don't know why AW even has to say something like this. You're going to come off bad complaining like that. It just sounds like sour grapes.

It's a very valid point. Wenger has always been against the January transfer window for this reason. He made this point last season as well when Newcastle went out and bought the whole French reserve team in January. The teams that now have to face these new players are suddenly at a disadvantage.

He's also made the same point about loaning to other premier league clubs. Chelsea loaned out Moses and Lukaku knowing that they wouldn't play against their parent club but could hurt their rivals. It is absolutely not a fair scenario and the rules should be changed.

And since already people are blowing this out of proportion, here are the quotes:

"Chelsea had already played twice against Man United so they don't play again anymore. They could have sold him last week but it opens up again questions about the dates of this transfer window. Some teams have already played twice against one opponent and some others not.

"I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody exactly the same, that should not happen."

It has been suggested that the possible Mata sale could be a move by Chelsea manager, José Mourinho, to damage other title rivals, as United still have to play Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

But Wenger said: "I wouldn't go as far as that. I just think you would want everybody on the same level. I can understand completely what Chelsea are doing. They do not make the rules, but maybe the rules should be a bit more adapted for more fairness."

If you want to debate whether its or right or wrong, than AW is correct in saying that it's not really a fair scenario because it isn't.

My issue with it is simply, "get over it." This January window has been in place for years and if a situation came about where we gained a similar advantage, than we would jump at the opportunity. I don't handle mock outrage that well especially knowing that we would do the exact same thing. If we bought Benteke tomorrow, we would be in the same boat as Chelsea and ManU.

That's what I'm thinking I think the issue raise by Wenger would be taken seriously if he has never bought in January or if he stops buying in January because he thinks it is unfair. As it stands he bough Reyes in Jan 2004 AFTER we've played some teams twice to add some fresh legs to our title challenge. He bought Arshavin around 31st Jan 2009, to rescue a top 4 finish, and only last year Monreal was brought in to stand in for Gibbs and aid our top 4 finish.

To be fair, though, his point is that it's Chelsea directly who's doing the business with united, not a team from outside the league. Chelsea is selling one of their players to a rival that they're finished playing.

That said, while from a technical standpoint it is a little unfair, it does come off as sour grapes. We're still should have no excuse if we don't beat united at home.

I can't understand what Arsenal supporter would have a problem with this. Its a ridiculous scenario, and the rules should be changed.

I don't understand the objections to Wenger's point here.

Rules are meant to ensure fairness. To the extent they may be used to produce the opposite, as they clearly have here, they should be changed. Chelsea have done what any sensible team would, but this particular tactic should no longer be allowed.

I also don't understand that Chelsea pretty much helped United secured 4th spot and a CL berth. Isn't it best to kick your rivals while they are down? They really need to think beyond this season.
