Posters keep going on about how the rules are unfair or the rules should be changed. Well...let's hear some suggestions, then. Because where I'm sitting, I really don't see how any changes can be implemented other than to eliminate the January window altogether.
I agree with Wenger, and think the January transfer window should be abolished. I'd also agree with Pizzy's idea, that the summer transfer window must close before league play begins. And I'll add one, you can loan players out, but they can play against you.

Do what we do here in the US. Keep the transfer window open until a certain point in the season. Make it January 1 which is the halfway point of the season in most Euro leagues. Everyone has played each other only once. That would make this bit of sneakiness irrelevant because if Mata did move before January 1, than he would have to face his old team in the return fixture.

That would still have similar effects because Mata could move to united after Chelsea played them once but then he has to face Arsenal and other teams twice, then would make it 'unfair' again.

If he moved way earlier in the season which isn't as likely. Mata has been on the fringes all season but most clubs would probably wait until you get near that January 1 deadline to start making moves just like they do here in the US. How many trades happen in sports here in the last couple weeks compared to rest of the season?

How about only having it open for the last week of December? Teams can work on deals beforehand but not finalize them until that small window.

Interesting article about Chelsea, Mourhino and Mata. It looks like Mata was always going to be sold in this transfer window.

That is very interesting. I don't think it was such a cold, calculated move by Mourinho, but rather he decided Mata wasn't as good as Oscar or Hazard in a team which had offensive and defensive balance.
Chelsea had too many attacking midfielders and one of them had to be the casualty.

At United, being more unique, he will be able to have more freedom.

I also don't understand that Chelsea pretty much helped United secured 4th spot and a CL berth. Isn't it best to kick your rivals while they are down? They really need to think beyond this season.
well said, Dream.

Chel$kie are fools. United will buy big and Mata Hari will come back to bite them.

First of all the presser where the quotes on Wenger came from had the issue of Mata instigated by the journalists and not Wenger. Wenger was factually accurate about the advantage that it confers to Chelsea. However he presumes that Moyes addressing the lack of a really good midfielder is going to shore up the discoveries of the true level of about 8 players at United - it won't. I see some limp journalists saying that Mata to Manure will be catalytic like Özil to Arsenal. This ignores that when Özil arrived Arsenal were improving, whilst the team Mata has arrived at is disimproving.

In the other thread people were asking what those of us who saw this deal coming (and possibly Rooney leaving for Chelsea) were smoking. Well I'm going on the record to say this now. Rooney has lost his long term place in the team with this transfer. If RVP remains injured we will see Rooney picked up top. I expect Moyes, if he has any sense to play Mata in the middle AM role where he was so deadly for Chelsea. Moyes won't change the shape of the midfield and will, like SAF depend heavily on width.

The only surprise is that Jose didn't lever Rooney out of United as a swap. Maybe he's done his tapping up already and is happy enough to wait until the summer to grab the unhappy person who seems to be in a constant sulk at United.

Pelligrini has stepped up and said that he believed players shouldn't be able to move within their own league mid-season.
