Agree with you 100%. I don't think most people here will understand just how much of a fragile position that we are in until we are placed in a position where we would have to start Bendtner in an important game. Theo Walcott is out for the season, Podolski has had his injury problems all season and also has shown that he is not effective in the central striker role. All it takes is a serious injury to Giroud and our season will unravel very quickly, all of the hard work to get us to top would have been for naught. We are not this vulnerable in any other position.

This season is going down to the wire, its going to be very close and there is a very slim margin for error; we aren't exactly 10 points clear of second place. I have nothing personal against Bendtner, if you checked me 4/5 years ago I was a huge supporter of this player. Its unfortunate that I have absolutely no faith in him to do the job if he is required.

That is true, but unfortunately the mistake was made in the summer.

I'm not panicking because Giroud is a very fit player, doesn't get injured. If Bendtner or Podolski can do a passable job at home against the minnows to give Giroud a rest, we'll be okay.

There's no way to replace Walcott's goals and assists, and that's been a big loss.

If we can manage to sign Draxler it will help, but last summer's mistake on the striker front needs to be addressed next summer, regardless of what happens.
yep, yep & yep again at last 2 paragraphs.

This comment really overlooks the sea change that has taken place since last season. We're no longer a selling club nor afraid to spend big. That doesn't mean we've suddenly become spendthrift, but where last year we were clamoring to do something to shore up our chances for a CL spot, this time around we're looking at how we might put ourselves in position to win the league. That is a major leap in aspiration.

The old accusation about Arsenal hoarding cash may once have had legs - however wobbly - but it should surely have been put to rest by now.

Yeah, that line of thinking is out the window for me. While there has been a clear change in what we're doing in the transfer market, we still can't go around spending 60-70 million every transfer window like Chelsea or Man City. We'll never be that type of club. When we sign a player for big money, we have to make every effort to be sure that they're not going to flop (an impossibility for sure) since we can't buy our way out of a 40 million mistake even with the spending power we now possess.

one swallow dont make it summer. thinking we need to do more to drop tag of cheapness or selling club especially with title within our grasp. time to act, aint time to justify doing nothing. aint asking afc to spend 60-70 m on player but to address weakest link in team which will hang us come march or april. who even knows...buying jackson or costa now may be cheaper & easier than buying them in summer.

I guess you consider Ozil to be the one swallow. If so, I think you underestimate the value of retaining everyone we wanted to keep. That was just as important to our progress as the German's signing.

Bottom line, the club's focus (and ours as fans) has changed. We're now talking about what it takes to win the league instead of hanging on for dear CL life. It's a brave new world.

progress should b viewed at seasons end. perish d thot but we may yet end up in 3rd or 4th spot which means hugging top of table 4 bulk of d season is as good as its gonna get. im sure neither of us wants dis shambolic scenario. dat we'll b d load dat breaks camels back. in other words, we've been water carrying for either of d money bag teams.

First of all Bendtner doesnt have a case to make, he is not going to get in the starting lineup and he is not staying beyond this season. He is therefore not fighting for his Arsenal future, this is really his swan song, his Arsenal career is over and has accepted the role as a guy that comes off the bench and gets cup games for Arsenal. I cannot even understand why Arsenal fans are this critical of him, he has done his job off the bench. When he was asked to start in the league, he did okay and scored in the first few minutes effectively winning the game for Arsenal. When he was brought off the bench when we were desperate for a goal, he got the goal and got injured doing so. He was poor in the FA cup but we scored 4 goals, why exactly are fans complaining? In the past he has been a bit deluded that he was a lot better he is as a footballer. However as long as he understands his limitations, he would still get a job in the league and earn decent money. I can easily see Bendtner averaging 15-20 goals in a mid table team and reinventing himself.

As for Arsenal, as long as we are not buying a special player to replace Giroud, the current striking situation at the club while not ideal is probably adequate (we would find out by the end of the season). The other option is to find a player that is better than Bendtner but not as good as Giroud, willing to sit on the bench and play limited minutes and the cup. However I can see why Wenger would be reluctant to do that because that player would become redundant long term. I believe Wenger must be looking at his attack and trying to improve that position with a world class player. He brought Weah to Monaco and he brought Anelka to Arsenal. He replaced him with Henry who went on to be an Arsenal legend and signed Van Persie as long term replacement for Henry. I don't think signing a back up now is the direction Wenger wants to go with this striker position.

The case Bendtner is making isn't to stay at the club. Right now he's a backup, and I think even he accepts that status. What he's making a case for is a decent club to come in and sign him. He's 26 and while a number of people want to damn him because of his high opinion of himself he will in all probability mature and have a decent enough career elsewhere. For the moment he has a big job to do for us until June which is to be fit and ready when called upon and to do his best to do some of the good work Giroud does.

Great post. Most likely the super signing is Clyde . i really wouldn't complain if we get Costa.
Rooney is out of our price range. Suarez........maybe if Poo doesn't make CL.

Cavani and Falcao , a little unsettled. They aren't plying their trade in the best leagues. There are super strikers to be bought this summer. So I guess we just got to make do with Bendtner and wait till the sun comes up.
