I watch Democracy Now and the Thom Hartman Show. Al Jazeera on occasion as well.

I said, "From "stop and frisk" to the heavy handed actions of police at the last two RNC's, we are seeing examples of becoming more of a police state." I never said this was a police state.

And I'm tired of accusations of over the top language from folks. In return, I'll simply say that you fail to grasp the gravity of various situations, and the implications of allowing any type of fascism to take hold in America.
Well, we share fatigue, if not a point of view. I'm tired of being told I just don't understand what's really going on when my interpretation of events differs from that of a left- or right-wing proponent.
Well, if you and others find my language and assessments of the state of our country to be over the top, then logically I would surmise that you don't grasp either the severity or the particulars of a situation, or both.

We're not a classic fascist state... yet, but there are folks with fascistic tendencies with way too much power to ignore the potential for some kind of fascism to take hold. And again, I say corporate fascism is already upon us.

While I'm not sure I'd go so far as to agree with JODB that we're on the slippery slope towards the kind of fascism that we're familiar with from history (and the dictionary, apparently), I do agree with him that Obama hasn't exactly made it a point to stop it. Also, I really don't think their can be an argument for him being a good president. So we're climbing out of a recession...on the back of unfathomable and unmaintainable debt. His healthcare system? Great idea...in theory. There's no possible way it can work the way it was intended for a country this large (and so far in debt). Those are just the two most glaring examples. I voted for him the first time, but not the second (no, I didn't vote for Romney last time around, so don't accuse me of that). I could already see by the end of the first term that he speaks with empty words, and the ideas that do come to fruition are poorly executed (though many of the issues are exacerbated by Congress). As someone who considered himself a moderate liberal before the 2008 election, I couldn't be more disappointed in our president.

Indeed!

I am watching the State of the Union address...can't decide if that's good or bad.
