He matched pace and power with pace and MORE power. Matic and Luiz as DM (the muscle was in place to counter Toure from swatting away opponents like pesky flies - read Ramsey, Flamini, Wilshire for Arsenal). This is not a criticism of OF our players, but I have always clamoured for more power in midfield to neutralize certain opponents). And Man City were not cutting through an opponent like knife through butter for the first time in a long time. Instead they were panic stricken, once their full backs were advanced. Willian was awesome, and outshone Hazard. That takes some doing on current form. (Mourinho already knows Diego Costa is coming to Chelsea next season. More power, pace and a guy who holds the ball up well and will put the ball in the net with minimum fuss - again an up on Giroud. And they will have Lukaku back). Like him or hate him, the guy delivers in big games. Consistently. For fuck's sake this the guy once he punched back, Guardiola ran into a "no mas" exile hole. |

I actually don't think Mourinho did anything special, City just feel into his lap and played to Chelsea strengths. When you play a big game, you have to think of the other teams strengths and try to neutralize it. I remember when we played Chelsea at the emirates, we had to play with hand brake on because Chelsea strength is on the counter and we didn't want to get caught out. Man City played against Chelsea as if they were playing a relegation team with no regards to what Chelsea could do. I think it is probably one of the easiest big games Mourinho has faced all season. |

Then perhaps, one should say Wenger could not get Man City to eat out of his hands and Mourinho knew how to get it done. At the end of the day, you make it or you don't based on one thing, and one thing only...results. "Clever talk" is mere sophism and ultimately a lie with no results to show. How many managers have tried and failed? And Mourinho? Did I hear you? Bingo! Edited by Gunner_PV4, Feb 4 2014, 08:54 AM.

I find it astonishing that some people still won't give Mourinho any credit and still refer to him as a 'myth' despite him doing what no other mangers in the EPL could do. What Mourinho once again showed yesterday is that despite our impressive season so far, he's still Wenger's master. And believe it or not(I know this would make some people blood boil) but Wenger has actually imitated Mourinho's system this season, well he started it from last season. |

Hate the fact that we are discussing about how great Chel$ea were. But thatz a fact. Anyone missed can watch the BBC MOTD highlights here http://www.tsmplug.com/football/highlights/man-city-0-1-chelsea-2014-motd-video/ I thot Hazard was sensational - running almost Messi like. Also that guy Natasic. He did not get bullied by Yaya Toure. Sadly, in our game at the Etihad, we only had Flamini as our DM and Yaya had him in his pocket. What this game shows is that if we are tactically good and set ourselves up in an organized way, we can beat Money City. I hope we can beat them at the Emirates. I hope Wenger pics up something from this game. |

I think you were blindsided by the idea that Man City were this unbelievable team and they are greatest team ever seen. When somebody comes and really embarrasses them, that person suddenly becomes a genius. When they played Arsenal, their idea was you have the ball, score but we would out score you. When many of us said that wasn't great football, you said we didn't know what we were saying and City could have scored 10. Now they tried to play in that naive manner against Chelsea and they get blown away and suddenly what Chelsea did is genius. Simple analysis of the city Squad showed that they had no depth (go on read comments on the City will win the Quadraple thread) yet some argued how City are one of the deepest squad ever seen yet one injury and they have a central defender in midfield. I can just go on and on, the reality is City were over hyped and Mourinho exposed them. Credit to Mourinho but I don't think this was really a difficult game for him, I have seen him overcome more difficult teams eg Barcelona a few years ago. All he did in this game is play 10 men behind the ball and ride his luck a bit but the other part was incredibly easy. City attack with 7-8 players and when you counter against them, if you can get out of that initial pressure, they are wide open and simply don't defend very well because they believe they would out score every one. I don't need to go read the quadruple thread because 1) I acknowledged that their squad is not as deep as most people think, how many times do I have to say this? 2) I never said they will or could win the quadruple, infact my main objections were I) your intepretation of Kompany's comment II) your dismissal of city's brilliance, by saying they got away with one in their 6-3 win over arsenal and they would get thrashed by barca. You don't get away with something by winning 6-3.If you think Arsenal and Barca are capable of beating city the way Chelsea did then you clearly don't know what you are talking about. After the city game you even when as far as predicting that based on the way city play arsenal would win the league 'easily'.Arsenal is a team that when we decide to play a defensive game then our attack is blunt just like at OT barca on the other hand aren't particularly a great defensive team themselves. If I relied only on reports here I'd think Chelsea won by four or five goals yesterday and that City's season is now in tatters. Chelsea could well have had more than the one they got, but City had good chances themselves, especially in the early going, and the match was close throughout. Credit to Mourinho and his men for going into the lion's den and coming out winners. But the piling on here about how Chelsea exposed City's weaknesses ignores the fact that in many ways, City is an ideal opponent for Chelsea. Mourinho is accustomed (and prefers) to sit back with a strong and disciplined defense and exploit openings and City is only too happy to bomb forward in numbers, thereby leaving those openings. They're an irresistible force against a lesser (or less well organized) defense, but Chelsea have both the mental and physical strength to slow them down and the speed and guile to open them up on the counter. I'm not at all surprised at the result. Great game, but it was only one game. City are still one result from the top and will be in the hunt for the duration. |
