Kudos for coming up big on Martial - there was an element of good fortune in that save but the best players make their own luck. On the other hand, Schweinsteiger's "Big Chance" was really lost when he failed to make the proper first touch. Once the ball gets that little extra distance away from him I think any good, alert goalkeeper smothers the shot.

And much as I like an article with a clever reference to Smokey Robinson it is worth noting that the numbers on which the writer bases his argument are small because the defense in front of Cech has kept them small.

Outside of that opening day debacle, Cech has been as advertised.

LMAO I remember when we had this thread by Cruyff "Szescny has been the best in the league". Cech has had little to do perhaps even less than he had to deal with at Chelsea, the few times he has been called upon he's fumbled on occassions, now I'm not saying he is a bad GK, but to say he's the best so far in the league is ridiculous, I haven't checked the stats but I'm pretty sure Begovic has made more big saves this season, even the injured Courtois who haven't played much may have made just as many saves as Cech.

And you'll have to show me the Schweinsteiger big chance, take off that rose tinted glasses Cruyff?

Yeah, at the time, he had been.

And I'm not sure what my allegiances have to do with an objective stat created by Opta.

It's not a big chance and you know it, I tell you what find me a goal scored from similar position, distance and speed without a deflection that was not referred to as a GK gaffe by commentators or pundits...

Best I don't know. I haven't watched enough non Arsenal games , or any time to chew on the stats. Apart from the opening day, he has been decent.

But from what I seen from Cech, I still got a bit of concern on him. He is not dominating his area , aerially. Although the last few games, he is making saves which we bought him for. Like Theo, I am not completely sold yet. But he is the best we got for now. Unless Chester comes back a different man.

Seriously? If his first touch doesn't let him down he's got a great chance to score. Thousands of goals have been scored at that angle over the years. Not at all difficult to side-foot to the far post from there if your body shape is right.

I've been wrong about Cech. Now I didn't think he was a bad keeper, however, he clearly has been the best after the first game of the season.
