LMAO I remember when we had this thread by Cruyff "Szescny has been the best in the league". Cech has had little to do perhaps even less than he had to deal with at Chelsea, the few times he has been called upon he's fumbled on occassions, now I'm not saying he is a bad GK, but to say he's the best so far in the league is ridiculous, I haven't checked the stats but I'm pretty sure Begovic has made more big saves this season, even the injured Courtois who haven't played much may have made just as many saves as Cech.
And you'll have to show me the Schweinsteiger big chance, take off that rose tinted glasses Cruyff?
Yeah, at the time, he had been. And I'm not sure what my allegiances have to do with an objective stat created by Opta.
It's not a big chance and you know it, I tell you what find me a goal scored from similar position, distance and speed without a deflection that was not referred to as a GK gaffe by commentators or pundits...
Seriously? If his first touch doesn't let him down he's got a great chance to score. Thousands of goals have been scored at that angle over the years. Not at all difficult to side-foot to the far post from there if your body shape is right.
so you are saying his first touch let him down, hence he missed the chance due to his OWN actions and not Cech's action. So how does that count as a BIG save by Cech or a big chance saved by Cech when the chance has already been lost before it left Bastian's boot?
This isn't that complicated. It qualifies as a big chance because of where he received the ball in a position to shoot. Again, take your case to OPTA if you have an issue with the way they quantify chances. I didn't read Opta, I read Arseblog interpretation of the stats which is what you posted.
" But if we look a bit deeper into the numbers we see that Arsenal’s superior defensive record can be attributed largely to one man, Petr Cech.
If you watched the match against Manchester United on Sunday you saw Arsenal jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. United has been insanely efficient this season and up to that match they had scored 70% of their Big Chances. Because I’m going to get asked in the comments I’ll just explain that Big Chances are easily illustrated by the two shots that Petr Cech saved in that match, one from Schweinstiger and one from Martial, both shots were right on the penalty spot."
Here the author is inferring that one of the big saves made by Cech is that of Schweinstiger which is ridiculous because the chance never materialised because of Schweinstiger poor touch. so are you saying if any player receives the ball in that position and then have an air shot that qualifies as a big chance saved by the GK or defence? come on man...

I think the author (who is not Arseblogger btw) makes it pretty clear in his explanation that the position the player is in when he receives the ball is the main reason it's referred to as a big chance.
Anyways, what's your point? That Cech hasn't been good?

While Cech is a good keeper, Almunia was just a better fit for Arsenal, you know?
