There is the second "fluke" after Ireland eked out a 1-1 draw against the Germans in the corresponding fixture.

The Germans had a right good go at Ireland, and certainly had tons of possession. But Ireland fought and fought for every ball and showed that they have learned not to play defensively without being too withdrawn. The midfield won this game, I couldn't choose for MOTM between Hendrick, Brady, McCarthy and Hoolahan because they ran midfield, and created breaks by pure guile. The winning goal was amazing, how to finish with control and power while running at full tilt.

Now Ireland could yet win their group. With Northern Ireland also doing well isn't it a shame that our island was divided by perfidious influences.
you can't even enjoy such a great win without betraying what a bitter hateful cunt you are
Maybe I missed something but it doesn't seem hateful at all. He said that if not for Ireland being divided (by perfidious influences) then the Irish team would be that much better because of the quality of Northern Ireland. Hard to argue that the influences behind dividing ireland are morally upstanding and noble.

Congrats to Ireland, always a joy to see the little guys win against the favorites.
You do understand the word perfidious ?
Yes. and the violent hateful people who divided ireland match that description. 90% of the Irish are good people who did not want a religious war. He never called one group perfidious, he said that of people that forced the divide. You may not like him, but I do not see anything wrong with what he said.
But you surely have seen enough of his previous posts to understand that was yet another in a long line of anti English sentiments

You are right about one thing though, I don't like him. Perfidious actually describes him perfectly

Can't imagine what Santry is gonna be going through on Sunday. They got at least a playoff spot wrapped up but some not good memories from the last time that happened. And I would completely be on his side if he hated Henry forever for that. I would feel the same way.

Not really a religious war, more a race war where the religious affiliation was neat marker of the parties. Just like the way Hindus and Muslims didn't kill each other prior to 1947 in India, or Sothos didn't fight Zulus..... Too many examples of Perfidy to think about in a football thread.

I will console myself with the news that Michel Platini is suspended by the ethics committee of FIFA.

Germany had started to influence the game and looked the most likely to score. Ozil's miss, though not necessarily glaring, kinda summed up the day for the Germans (Muller later on missed another that he would normally bury). That said, Ireland played very well. They made Germany work for their chances and, on occasion, took the game to the Germans.. And, while the defending on the long ball was horrendous, full credit to Long for doing what none of the Germans on the night could with a very well taken goal.

I still have full confidence that Germany tops the group, so this result doesn't bother me. In fact, while my father's side is full blooded German, my mother's is a mix of German, English, and Irish. I've always held a soft spot for the Irish team. Here's hoping they can finish the job in Warsaw and get the second automatic qualifying spot.
Not that you are saying this, but what did you think of Leow's whines about long balls? The goal admittedly came from one, but it was the only real back to front ball in the second half. Ireland hit a few in the first five minutes as the game settled they just kept the ball themselves, which disrupted the Germans from getting into the swing of the game. You felt the Germans were looking quizzical when half time came, almost as if they hadn't got as much of the ball as they wanted.

It's a big ask to win in Poland, even though they are a one-man team. It would be nice to top the group though.

Now do you get it Ivan. The whole of the worlds sins & problems are down to the English & this is just the place to get on a soapbox about it

East German Gooner

What a perfect pass from Ozil for the winning goal. Massive goal that takes the Germans top of the group. Fabregas who?
