http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/612385/Arsene-Wenger-grilled-by-fans-feisty-Agm-meeting-embarrassing-Arsenal-news "I accept you have to be over-critical when the performances are not good, but look at the number of games Arsenal played in the Champions League before I arrived and look after, and come back to me," retorted Wenger. "I agree with you that the performances were not good enough. But we have played over 150 games in Europe. You have picked three performances that were not good enough. But if you look at the percentages of games won in Europe, you will see Arsenal are in the top five. "We have played the Champions League final and unfortunately we lost. We have played semi-finals and quarter-finals. "We had 15 consecutive years coming out of the group stage. To do that you need to win football games." |

Did u expect him to just cower in a corner about his CL record? To qualify and get out of the group this many years in a row is a great achievement but we have failed to win it all even once which tips the scales the other way for me. We do appear to stumble inexplicably in the CL against weaker teams and it's been a long while since we won a 2-legged knockout tie where we were the clear underdogs. |

that's the point isn't it? the fact that we haven't won it once and consitently get knocked out by weaker opposition shows it's not really a great achievement. Also Jays you have to factor the fact that he's the only manager in world football apart from Fergie who haven't been out of a job for 19 years, you and I know that if someone like Jose, Klopp, guardiola, Ancelotti etc were to not be out of a job for 19 years at a big club, they'll be getting out of the group every single year and they'll do better by actually winning it |

Didn't we move to Cashburton Grove to compete with the European elite? The club has sold us a lemon. |

Those crazy fans at the AGM who were asking Wenger bout our performances in recent games at the CL, dont seem to observe that this Arsenal team has a tendency to surprise us. Wont be surprised if we put in a Man Yoo like performance and we beat Bayern. Those were dumb questions, IMO. You have one opportunity to ask a question to Mr Wenger, who is a legend at the club and your question is about a series of individual games? Naturally, Wenger will respond and talk about his record in the CL, which is very good. Although i still feel, most of the times we were in Pot 1 and thus had atleast 3 gimme games in the group stages. An when the pressure got bigger, Wenger's teams just couldn't handle it. But still credit has to be given to our manager, who has this incredible ability to win the 'gimme games' and thus can boast of this impressive record. Gazidiz has been saying we will challenge the top 5 clubs for over 3 years now! Lets just ignore that guy. |

So basically you're saying Wenger has done and is doing an excellent job at the club? |

Much room to improve in the CL. Got room to improve to bring back the league title. So far he is meeting expectations in getting the 4th trophy (for his bosses at least) He got 2 back to back FA cups. So he is slightly above expectations. (in his bosses' eyes) In the eyes of most fans. He is doing quite a decent job. Even if he is to leave the job today. We are left with a very very good team. ------------------------------------------cech/ Szcz/ Ospina----------- Debuchy/ Bellerin/Jerky-----Mert/Chamber-----Kos/ Gab----------Monreal/Gibbs -------------------------------Coq/ Flamini/ Arteta------------------------- ---------------------Santi / Wilshere --------------Ozil-------------- --Ramsey/ AOC--------Walcott/ Giroud / Welback -----Sanchez Honourable mention - Rosicky Hardly any dead weight in this team. Only one who might be surplus to requirement . Joel Campbell, who isn't contributing enough. Compared to the ghost of Arsenal past. Slushy squid. Gallas . Silvestre. Eboue . Chamakh . Chu Yong Park. Santos. Bendtner . Vela. Denilson. Almunia Look at the squad names in 2012/2013 before Ozil. It's mind boggling how we even managed 4th. Before that , we had Cesc and RVP to drag us into CL spots. But aren't these 2 developed by Wenger too from a young age ? Anyway that being said, if we don't win the title this season. Or hold the FA cup for the 3rd time(as a consolation) this season is a bust. |

"I agree with you that the performances were not good enough. But we have played over 150 games in Europe. You have picked three performances that were not good enough. But if you look at the percentages of games won in Europe, you will see Arsenal are in the top five." That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? Wenger is on the same page here. We know the CL record could be a lot better. We've made it out of the group stage and we've had some great games over the last decade but it means nothing if you don't go on and win it. The goal has to be for us to be counted as one of the top 5 teams in Europe. And even winning the league is not going to accomplish that. We need to prove it in the CL. Whether we get out of the group stage this time or not, we have to show against Bayern that we can hang with the big boys. |

Well he did come close to winning it in 2006, also in 2004, when we should have won it instead of loosing to Ranieri's Chel$kie. Most disappointing Arsenal night of my life. That is the thing Xidane and Pizzyboy - Wenger's overall record record appears amazing. Top 5 sounds too good to be true. But the record masks huge issues in his teams. For Wenger there have been too many embarrassments, too many hammerings, too many tactical flaws exposed in the big games, mental capitulations when the pressure is on etc. All these blots will ensure Wenger will remain a 'Good manager' but not a 'Great one' in Europe. Well, unless he wins the CL. I dont see it happening anyway. Edited by KamyFC, Oct 20 2015, 12:12 AM.
