![]() I don't think Walcott can ever be a dependable striker in a one striker formation be it 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1. The contrast in the goals per minutes return of the two men is astonishing. To think that a canadian clown said Sturridge is still yet to "prove" he's better than Walcott is laughable... I think we'll start dropping points if Wenger continues to stick with Theo, Theo should either play on the right or come in as a "super-sub". |

I think now that Theo has gotten a taste for the starting striker spot this season, he would be more than a little pissed off if he was shunted back to the right or used as a super-sub. He really believes that he is a striker first and that's not necessarily a bad attitude to have. I'm a little surprised that Giroud has taken this reduced role without a complaint and has produced well when called off the bench. While being vastly different players, I don't know if one is that much better than the other. The stats are what they are right now but a couple of goalless sub appearances is gonna bring down Giroud's percentage real quick. They each score in their own ways and flub chances in their own ways. I think it's a wash between them in the end. By belief is that if u have two good strikers that split time, u don't have one real "go to" guy and that's the real issue. |

I think it's clear that Walcott is still learning the position but I think it's worth sticking with him for the time being. There are certain qualities that he brings that allows the players behind him to flourish. I don't think it's a coincidence that Ozil is turning out some of his best performances since coming to the club when he's playing with Walcott. I feel like Alexis is versatile enough that it really doesn't matter who he's playing with. Bringing Ox into the team could change the calculus a bit. FWIW, Giroud has always performed well off the bench. In any event, it's not a problem right now, so I don't see why we would want to change it? |

Giroud is a Centre forward. He makes intelligent runs in the box and get stuck in. He also can play with his back to goal and play the wingers through. Theo on the hand is always looking to run behind the defender hoping for that through ball to put him clear. Its harder to find Theo cos his game is one dimensional. He's not like Henry who can collect the ball outside the box and make goals on his own. Thus I conclude. Put Theo on the wings. He will score more goals there as there is more space. Giroud is the only CF we have right now. |

He's not really like Henry but I would disagree with you that he can't collect balls outside the box and make goals on his own. In fact, I think he's at his best when he's picking up the ball on the wing or in the channel and cutting inside to score or assist. |

"picking up the ball on the wings...." He's a winger dude. He is best there. He's good in running after those long balls at the wings and putting in those balls across the goal to assist. Edited by creephoria, Oct 23 2015, 08:46 AM.

Im not saying that Theo is no good..but we can't play him when the defence plays deep. Its hard to find him with those crosses into the box. He's not strong enough to fend off those CBs. With Theo we have to rely on passing our way into the net. |

A lot of players that play striker like to drift to the wings and run at players (Ex. Lewandowski). It doesn't make them wingers. |

Walcott has been great so far. What was severely lacking from his game was aggressiveness and physicality. He's improved his technique, he's bulked up a bit, and he has recently taken on more of Alexis' mentality. What frustrated me about Theo up front was that he was completely passive in his pressing and defensive duties. He literally just stand around when we didn't have the ball. And then when we did have it he wasn't aggressive enough with his runs, his challenges with the center halves. Recently he's been a lot more aggressive. Pressing the defenders and midfielders, going up for aerial challenges and he's been able to hold the ball up too. And he's getting more and more comfortable dropping deeper and running with the ball. His brilliant dribble from the right wing vs Olympiakos got completely overlooked. He was brilliant in that game all around. Now beginning of the season my opinion was that Walcott wasn't going to make it as a CF, and he should forget about wanting that role and focus on becoming a lethal wide forward. But with his recent developments I can absolutely see him making that position his own. And the good thing about that is the whole team looks sharper, faster with him up front. We are such a huge counter attacking threat. Some of the link up play between Walcott, Ozil, and Sanchez has been brilliant. As for Giroud, he has always has an immense record coming off the bench. I think in some games he will have to start, but at the moment this is working quite well for us. |

You're short-changing Walcott here with regard to his movement. His runs are no longer one-dimensional. He cuts inside and out, pulls off defenders and varies his position frequently in the build up. No question his first love is still to blow by people onto through balls, but he is growing into a more sophisticated attacker and I say let him continue to grow. Giroud would undoubtedly prefer to start but he's proved so lethal as a Plan B that I wouldn't want to mess with that either right now. |
