This is probably the most bizarre summer I can remember in a long time. It started out with Ivan Gazidis announcing to the world that Arsenal have 70 million to spend. That was a claim that I didnt believe when it was made but a lot of gunners bought it hook, line and sinker. What that claim did was it allowed the media create all sort of stories and nothing was to ridiculous to believe. An example was the early transfer story that Arsenal were looking to sign Rooney. There is not a chance in hell that Arsenal were going to pay over 30mil for an under performing player and that was earning over 200,000 per week. I also found the Fellaini story hard to believe, he was simply going to cost too much for a player who I dont consider to be a typical Arsenal player. The one story I bought was the Gonzalo Higuain story because I really wanted it to be true. However I started to doubt the story when a claim was made that Arsenal made a 25mil bid for the player that was rejected. It made absolutely no sense that Real Madrid would reject a record bid from Arsenal for their second string striker who they want to sell. I am sure Florentino Perez saw the story that we were giving him all that money and he rejected it, that he just coudnt resist trying to set the record straight. Now the latest story is that Arsenal are making a 30mil pound offer for Suarez, really? The same guy that is out there biting people on the pitch. I think if Arsenal could get a player like that on a cut rate price because of his character issues, then maybe we might be interested but to offer all that money for a player with all that character issues is simply insane. The contradiction in all this is Arsenal claim that all the years of financial planning and being prudent have paid off and now we are starting to reap the benefit. Now that we have all this money, did we suddenly become stupid? None of this makes sense to me, the only thing that has made sense all summer is the Arsenal signing 20 year old French man Yaya Sanogo, that is typical Arsenal. The question I have for fans here is now that the Higuain story is dead in the water, how do they figure we can spend 70 million? It just seems impossible and maybe that is why the media are making up these crazy stories. Then again if we really had all that money to spend, why did Ivan Gazidis announce to the world that we had all that money to spend? It just seems rather stupid to announce to potential sellers that we had all that money unless perhaps it was meant to excite the fans and nothing more. In any case whatever is left of Ivan's credibility now is seriously on the line. Do not get me wrong I consider not losing any player as success this summer but I just cant see how Arsenal can possibly spend 70mil. Fans need to stop believing this crap being fed to us by the media preying on our gullibility. |

I feel they have no intention of really signing anyone of note, I just can't figure out why. If it is greed, they have to know that falling out of Champions League would seriously dent our financials. Those deals we harp on about could be cancelled. If that happens, we may find it impossible to get back to the the CL (hello, Liverpool). So what other reason could we hoarding money? Is it stupidity? Anyone have any ideas? |

you know what phato if I was to give my opinion on this issue I wouldn't change one word from your post not even one word, I've been saying this for sometime now that all the stories coming from us bidding for these top players are 100% lies, I took noticed straight away when ESPN reported we triggered fellaini £23mil release clause, it was not only silly, it also happened to be a lie that was fed to them by someone who took advantage of the rubbish gazidis spewed out this summer. What's even more funny is when the same newspapers spew another nonsense that the higuain deal is being delayed beause Arsenal have two targets (Rooney and possibly Benteke) ahead of Higuain |

Do not get me wrong, if indeed we are going to make a big splash this summer, we could still do it by signing a couple of players in the 15-20 mil price range. Maybe we can up what we are willing to spend a bit over that. However the stories we are seeing are so over the top, it is becoming laughable. I was willing to let this summer play out and evaluate where we are at the end of it but the fact that fans are actually taking some of these stories seriously makes it hard to take an observers role in all this. If Liverpool offer Suarez to Arsenal for 10mil, I am sure we would take our time to consider whether it is worth the baggage. I can't imagine Arsenal making such a crazy bid for him and Liverpool rejecting such a crazy bid. |

I'm still trying to be positive about this summer and that we will make a couple of big signings. I thought that this summer would be different and I'm still of that opinion. I'm wavering slightly but not ready to come out with both guns blazing blasting those in charge. |

Fair enough, I think me and few others like phato tend to notice earlier than others when a trend is developing and base our opinion on this |

The usually-reliable David Ornstein of the BBC just reported this on Twitter: Arsenal pursuing Higuain & Suarez in hope of signing one. No fee agreed on Higuain, probably need to pay £40m release clause for Suarez #afc |
