Let me clarify something here, I think Suarez is a talented player and based on what other clubs like Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid pay for players, 35 mil might seem about right. Manchester City for example paid 38 million for Aguerro who perhaps is on the same level as Suarez. Arsenal on the other hand are a club that typically get value for money and if we are going to spend 35 mil for one player, you have to put it on the Arsenal scale. Arsenal for example paid 12mil for Cazorla, I don't think Suarez is at a different level from Carzola let alone worth 3 times what we paid for Carzola. That is not even taking into consideration the character issues which should further lower his valuation. Like Aguerro it wouldn't surprise me if Suarez has a down season as teams key in on him following his exploits from the previous season. I am unconvinced that Suarez is the type of player that can guarantee you 40 goals a season every year, after all he has only done it once. It think the potential for this to be an embarassing signing for Arsenal is just too big to take such a gamble.
In any event, I think you'd have to step back from your OP in this thread. Arsenal appear to be "putting their money where their mouth is."
cruyff there are too different issues here, the nerd in the class asks the prom queen on a date and that instantly changes the perception of him. However unless he closes the deal and actually takes the girl on that date, all he has done is show some balls, it doesnt mean anything. Now that girl turns out to be promiscuous and the nerd withdraws his entire savings to woo this girl, now that is a scary thought. Now to think that there are even more beautiful, well behaved girls in the class that he wouldnt even have to spend that much to get and yet he is going after this girl makes no sense.

Now enough of my analogy, Arsenal's summer would be judged by who we end up signing, not on the noise we have made all summer. Now if the statement signing we make turns out to be Suarez, that would be a different type of disaster.
haha! loved that analogy of yours.

Suarez is a kind of guy who will bang 20+ goals for u, but will start throwing tantrums the moment a club like Real Madrid or Barca comes calling - Saying stuff like its my dream to go to Spain etc.

Thatz the problem with unstable characters. They will ditch u when u need them the most.

Hey, if we dont get anyone else we would rather have Suarez.

How bout Rooney? He seems pretty unsettled - time to make a move? He seems to be a much more stable and loyal character than Suarez.
And i cant believe we still haven't bid for Higuain. This window is getting interesting by the day.

kamlesh the good thing about suarez like JODB mentioned earlier is that, even if you eventually want to sell him after one year you would still get a return of your money because club would still be willing to pay top dollar for him he's that good!.
Moreover if he can stick around for that long in the 7th best team in the epl surely a top 4 side should have too many problems retaining his services.

Suarez is a commited player, and if he doesn't get into much trouble next season this would absolutely be Wenger 2nd best bit of business ever after the henry signing.

Of the three, Rooney seems like the least likely guy we would sign. We're simply not gonna pay his incredibly ludicrous wages.

It could be a toss up between Higuain or Suarez as to who could come here. Right now it looks as if Suarez is more likely since we have more fresh news about it than anything from Higuain.

"Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him. I want as many options as possible." - David Moyes.

Which top striker wont get pissed by such statements by ur manager?
Is this the first sign which shows that Moyes is facing situations he never faced during his time at Everton...

Rooney is unhappy and there is a disconnect between what Moyes is saying to the press and whatz happening inside.

By the way Jose Mourinho is making a comment bout Rooney every day. I see a bid from the money bags, soon.
Actually, Moyes rowed with Rooney at Everton, so it's nothing new for him!

They've actually made a bid which united have rejected

And chelsea denied offering a player as part of the deal.
I believe united want either david luiz or mata, if chelsea offer them one of these two they'll accept otherwise no deal.

If rumours that were spread earlier in the season that david luiz and mata style doesn't suit mourinho were true then they would let one of them go.

Hard to believe the details of that offer. Mata and 10M? United should be biting Chelsea's hand off for that.

Am I the only one who does not want Rooney. Besides the fact that I personally rate him just above average and declining.... I think He's played on a "winner" at ManU, but whenever the tough got going there, he became unpredictable. He would be coming into a situation at Arsenal that is very much less stable then he was used to at ManU and in the long run would not be happy here.

I also agree with cruyff_turn... there is no way ManU turned down Mata for Rooney....... no way.

Mixed feelings at best from me on this one. I agree Rooney is on the downside of his career, but it's not like he's in free fall and I would expect a move to the right club to re-energize him. That club is unlikely to be Arsenal unless he's willing to take a big cut in pay, which in itself would probably cause other issues. I'm guessing Chelsea wins out.

Wherever he ends up, I'm looking forward to seeing him in action against Moyes's United.

"Same old shit dog, just a different day" from "Here We Go Again" DMX

Am I the only one that is completely surprised by how this entire transfer season has played out? I initially didnt believe Ivan Gazidis when he said we had all this money and I expected that our transfer activity would leave much to be desired but the entire process and how we got to this point has been nothing short of perplexing.

I decided to reopen this thread because it is just as appropriate as when I initially made it. I expect some transfer flurry on deadline day or if the team struggles at the start of the season but I cant see us making a major move this late in the game.
