Pizz, your post signature has me crying.
I'm guessing you made a comment which dissapeared in the old forum I was wondering what you said there regarding over moderating and having allegiances
Yeah, not sure why comments aren't showing up there anymore. What I said was: What Pizz fails to say is that the threads I've deleted were either "test" threads which had proven their necessity, or redundant, superfluous threads. Also, Pizz is (predictably) the only poster to have expressed complaints about my moderating style.

dream_team, players and buying clubs can talk to each other without a fee being agreed.
When Sid Lowe (who has connections in Spain), and Tim Vickery and Ornstein of BBC say we are trying to sign Higuain (and the deal will happen) you don't believe them?
Even Tim Payton of AST, usually negative about our spending and Wenger's policies is saying we should sign Higuain and a couple other players in a few weeks.

No one has said that the deal is done. Tabloids ran a story saying Higuain's medical would be soon (and they were wrong), and now the story has changed to Ancelotti wanting Higuain to stay and Madrid not willing to sell (they're speculating again).

The fact we do know is that we've been in contact with Higuain and we are trying to sign him. Higuain and Suarez. I'd say Julio Cesar too.

there's no need fighting on this one, I only brought this up because I'm one of the very few(about 3) whose thread was deleted and more importantly I also noticed similar "superflous" threads were created around the same time but not deleted by some posters whom you don't want to offend.
Anyways I'll leave it and end it here as long as you stop deleting threads superflous or not

Higuain agent/father said the deal was done

I ain't buying the Suarez bid. I just am not. It goes against everything we know about the Arsenal management team modus operandi. I think that several of these transfer speculations that Cruyff and other desperate Arsenal fans are gobbling are either media created or created by the board to appease worried season tickets holders who are on the verge of renewing their tickets.

You would think though that it would have made sense to complete transfers before the trip to Asia so they could bed into the team. I know we have more friendlies (and the highly prestigious Emirates Cup) before the season starts but surely the longer they have to gel in preseason the better.

The deadline for renewing tickets has passed.

And, again, I'm taking these stories with a grain of salt, but it seems the club have bid.

Is it just a PR move? Is it a ploy to get Real Mad to hurry up? Who knows. But reliable people have confirmed the interest.

And yes it's different from our usual way of doing things but hasn't Gazidis been banging about how this summer will be different?

I don't think he said that. He said they were given permission to talk to Arsenal and he was hoping to see his son in the English league soon.

I think its worse when he says we have the spending power to compete with the other top clubs. That almost implies that if Man City made a 50 mil offer for Player X than we should be able to compete with that bid. I'm not buying that for a second.
I think we all know we still can't compete with City or Chelsea. Even if we bid 100m for a player they can both blow us out of the water (although FFP makes it trickier).

It's a pure PR move from Gazidis and Wenger.

Think about our image right now. Over the past few years it's been all about top players leaving us to win trophies. We aren't capable of offering that to them anymore.

They're trying to change that image by talking about our financial strength. Earlier in the summer all the stories in the media were about our spending power and how we could sign Rooney if we wanted and how we could get back to the top tier of clubs.
Even on ESPN they posted an article on how we could win the title if we spend right!

I wouldn't take Gazidis' comments completely on face value. We know we have money to spend but I dont' think we will spend recklessly like CHelsea/City. I think we will still look for the best deal and we will still have a limit.

However, I can understand why he's making the comments. Trying to change the narrative around the club and to attract the best players.

Maybe this "cheeky bid" for Suarez is part of the PR. They're saying: "Look at the caliber of players we are trying to bring in."

I think if we can get just one top quality player in others will follow. Signing Higuain or Suarez (or Rooney) would show ambition and will mean more big players will want to join. Let's hope something happens soon.

The purpose of my original post was to bring real talk back to the table and also call Ivan Gazidis out a bit for starting all this nonsense in the first place. From what I see a lot of fans are being realistic here. So far in the transfer window no Arsenal player has been linked with a move away from the club so in that sense there is a bit of stability. I think that also limits what we can add to the team. The striker position is one where you feel that Giroud didn't cut it. However it wouldn't surprise me is we don't bring in another striker, after all I think Giroud performed exactly how you expect a player who came from came from France in his first year in the league. If I had to bet with the way Wenger has done things in the past, he would be looking to Giroud to make a huge step forward this season rather than abandoning that signing and looking for an established player to just come in and do the job.

Where I think this whole thing goes crazy is these insane bids we are supposedly making for players. I feel like despite what Gazidis said, this might be one of the more quieter summers, we might make a move or two but it is going to be modest and nothing out of this world. That is not necessarily a bad thing, I feel like keeping the team together would be an improvement to summers past. That is my realistic take on all this anyway, maybe this is a new Arsenal.
