Just noticed this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23288764 Hopefully that means they're looking to recoup some of the money (read: Sell us Higuain, FFS!!!). |

or it could mean they won't be signing suarez or cavani. They've spent a lot of money on Isco and this new kid, selling higuain wouldn't recoup any of the money spent on those players as Higuain himself got to be replaced. Which means more expenses for them as they would have to pay more than twice of what they'll get for Higuain for suarez or cavani. Real are probably thinking "we sell higuian for £23m and then buy Suarez for £50m or Cavani for £54m that don't make sense.." |

Phato you'll even like this, ESPN has another 'story' which is according to the Guardian, Arsenal set to increase our bid of Suarez to £35m, I don't know who's feeding them these stories. http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/221409.html |

Today Sky Sports said that Suarez is open to staying in England and playing for Arsenal. They asked one of their sources close to the transfer if Suarez could join Arsenal, he said "maybe." So Arsenal and Suarez are interested in a move, but Liverpool are very reluctant to sell. That's what I gather from the reports. |

I dont know what part of the story is even more bizarre, the part that we are willing to spend £35m or the part that Liverpool would refuse to sell a player that has become an embarrassment to the club. There is a feeling around the club that Arsenal are trying to make a statement but unless that statement is that we have become a stupid club willing to trow money away, there is no way Arsenal would spend all that money on Suarez. |

I'm on board with Phato here. This supposed bid of Suarez really makes no sense. We double our previous transfer record for Luis Suarez? The guy is a pariah who I want no parts of in an Arsenal kit. For those posters who love to talk about the integrity of the club and being well-managed financially and not having "bad apples" on the team, how can this possible move even sit well with you guys? |

Though Suarez's expressed interest in a move to The Emirates was understated, I think that he would chomp down hard on the opportunity to join the Gunners. As for Arsenal's supposed interest in him, let's take the offer at face value for a second here and weigh the pros, cons and mitigating circumstances. Let's start by saying that he's fucking brilliant and that Liverpool would have been legitimate relegation material without him. Alright, he has engaged in racist taunting and apparently is still in the teething stage. My bet would be that he would take his career and The Arsenal seriously enough at this stage to curb his transgressions. The club would certainly insert numerous behavioral clauses in his contract that would see him suspended without pay for misbehaving, and even if he does explode once more, at his age and with his talent, there will still be multiple suitors for his services. If Suarez comes to The Arsenal and Wenger doesn't try to make the Smurf-like midfield of Arteta, Wilshere and Cazorla work and adds some real midfield depth, I would bet my hard earned money on them topping the Prem this season. PS - I've never been one to talk much of the "Arsenal way." In that it means stylish football and not embarrassing the club on the pitch, I'm totally down. But I don't think that the club needs to extend that "way" to include past behavior at other clubs. Like others have said here, if he behaves in an Arsenal kit, I really don't care that much about his sordid past. Did I mention that he's fucking brilliant? I believe Suarez wants to leave Liverpool and as with players that want to force their way out of a club, there are stories created by the player/agent to cause the uncertainty. The uncertainty is an indirect way to make the club know they don't want to stay but these stories do not always turn out to be true. This Suarez story is strange because he is not linked to any of the clubs that would traditionally be interested in him which brings me to my second point, even if you take away the character issues, is Suarez even a 35mil pound player? He is a player that is talented and did well last season but it wouldn't surprise me if he struggles to replicate what he did last season. I guess as a player you strike when you are hottest but as a club can you really justify spending that money based on one season performance Up to this point, we see stories like "Arsenal rebuffed after audacious £30m offer for Liverpool striker", "Arsenal to test Liverpool's resolve with new £35m bid for Luis Suárez". These type of stories are so not Arsenal, we dont do our business this publicly. Edited by phatosas, Jul 15 2013, 02:35 PM.

At 26 and at the height of his powers, Suarez would seem to have at least a few more years of top level production in him and would thrive in any league in Europe. Between his goals and his work rate, a price tag of £35m seems not out of line in today's world, but... I think it's just a matter of time before he loses his shit again. He's already set to miss the first several games of the new season and any further transgressions would have to have major consequences. The media are going to be all over him - wherever he ends up - with the kind of attention that can only be a distraction. If he was 22, I might be inclined to take the gamble and hope for the best. At 26, we're asking for trouble if we get this guy. |
