I think Cazorla is definitely close to being in that class. Incredible player. I still can't believe we got him for 12m. |

As much as I love Santi, I must cry out "blasphemy" here. |

why is it not comparable?, you believed what Liverpool managing director said and you don't want to believe what Real madrid president said? |

That I agree. It's like comparing podol to pires at this moment in time. |

Let me clarify something here, I think Suarez is a talented player and based on what other clubs like Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid pay for players, 35 mil might seem about right. Manchester City for example paid 38 million for Aguerro who perhaps is on the same level as Suarez. Arsenal on the other hand are a club that typically get value for money and if we are going to spend 35 mil for one player, you have to put it on the Arsenal scale. Arsenal for example paid 12mil for Cazorla, I don't think Suarez is at a different level from Carzola let alone worth 3 times what we paid for Carzola. That is not even taking into consideration the character issues which should further lower his valuation. Like Aguerro it wouldn't surprise me if Suarez has a down season as teams key in on him following his exploits from the previous season. I am unconvinced that Suarez is the type of player that can guarantee you 40 goals a season every year, after all he has only done it once. It think the potential for this to be an embarassing signing for Arsenal is just too big to take such a gamble. |

I can believe we haven't made a bid to Real Madrid for the player. However, I can also believe we have agreed personal terms with the player (which is often the case in transfer negotiations). Edited by cruyff_turn, Jul 16 2013, 08:21 AM.

In any event, I think you'd have to step back from your OP in this thread. Arsenal appear to be "putting their money where their mouth is." |

Phato I think you need to take several other factors into consideration. First of all let's start with the fact that Malaga were in trouble they had to sell and UEFA was already planning to punish them for overspending so they would accept any decent offer for cazorla. infact they ended up selling cazorla less than the amount they paid for him 12 months before. Now take into account that Malaga needed the money and want to sell, liverpool don't want to sell, malaga didn't strenghten a rival, liverpool will be strengthening one, when you want to buy from a rival you have to pay more than normal, hence the £35m is just about right. Trust me if any epl club are going to get rooney from united they are going to have to pay something in the region of £30m despite the fact that rooney didn't play well last season. Infact if we are going to have to examine our potential signings on the Arsenal scale, then signings from epl is automatically ruled out. Which means we would have to go out to buy players from other leagues who might be need time to get used to the league or there's possibility that the player might never get used to the league. Suarez might end up performing slightly below our expectation, but I very much doubt it based on what I've seen of this guy. One thing I'm sure of is yes he might embarrass us on one or two occasion during his stay with us, but I'm certain that overall he won't be an embarrassing signing. I think people are just being unfair to this guy, Balotelli was similar but unilike suarez balotelli was crap for 50% of the time and NEVER works hard, yet milan paid £18m for him and is doing well for milan. Based on hard work, proven ability , quality and the fact that he's being sold to a rival Suarez is at least worth twice of balotelli. |
