Suarez is a very good player and in today's market, 35 mil is a pretty accurate amount to spend on a proven international scorer. I just can't get past the character issues of this guy. He's a loose cannon and doesnt seem the type of guy who is gonna stay at any club for an extened period of time before wearing out his welcome.

DSCH Real madrid president said arsenal haven't even made an offer for higuain do you believe that?
I've no idea and it doesn't matter anyway. The situations are not comparable, nor are the clubs' styles.
why is it not comparable?, you believed what Liverpool managing director said and you don't want to believe what Real madrid president said?
I can believe we haven't made a bid to Real Madrid for the player. However, I can also believe we have agreed personal terms with the player (which is often the case in transfer negotiations).
That would mean
1) the deal was never edging closer, I mean how will the bid edge closer when you haven't even made an offer for the purchase of the product you want to buy.
2)Higuain was never on his way to london for a medical, you only go for a medical when fees have been agreed by both clubs
3) Arsenal were never confident or hoping to complete a deal before going for pre season tour, I mean if you want to get Higuain before July 15 you have to offer real madrid money right?

So in other words if you believe what Perez said you believe everything that was reported by the media is all false except the part that Arsenal talked to and negotiated with higuain and his father.

I am coming late to this discussion, but in the past 24 hours I have seen David Villa and Julio Cesar go (or almost go) to other teams for relative pennies. Both, IMHO could have made this squad better.

Suarez I want no parts of... No denying his talent, but I think he is an unstable loon that will be more trouble then he's worth. 30mil may seem like a fair valuation of him now, but the man is one dumb on the pitch move from being worthless.

Like many... I am frustrated by Arsenals lack of movement in the market... and once again being all sizzle but no steak!

In what universe does believing what one individual said oblige me to believe what another has said?

Spanish club presidents and their press make their English counterparts look like Vulcans when it comes to telling the truth.

Let me clarify something here, I think Suarez is a talented player and based on what other clubs like Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid pay for players, 35 mil might seem about right. Manchester City for example paid 38 million for Aguerro who perhaps is on the same level as Suarez. Arsenal on the other hand are a club that typically get value for money and if we are going to spend 35 mil for one player, you have to put it on the Arsenal scale. Arsenal for example paid 12mil for Cazorla, I don't think Suarez is at a different level from Carzola let alone worth 3 times what we paid for Carzola. That is not even taking into consideration the character issues which should further lower his valuation. Like Aguerro it wouldn't surprise me if Suarez has a down season as teams key in on him following his exploits from the previous season. I am unconvinced that Suarez is the type of player that can guarantee you 40 goals a season every year, after all he has only done it once. It think the potential for this to be an embarassing signing for Arsenal is just too big to take such a gamble.
I think that the relative price tags for Cazorla and Suarez are born of two factors. Cazorla was simply another marketplace master stroke by Le Boss. Suarez is a prolific striker and arguably one of the top ten most talented players on this planet, and there is a hefty premium that must be paid for each. The difference in their worth is also down to the fact that Suarez is a far more dynamic and influential player, and he doesn't have to score 40 goals to make the Arsenal attack the EPL's most dangerous once more.

It would certainly be ideal if Arsenal's first record busting signing this summer was a player of absolutely impeccable character, but I don't think that should deter the Gunners from adding the Teething Uruguayan. As I've mentioned on a couple of occasions, there would be personal conduct clauses galore that would see him without a paycheck at the first transgression, and even if he bit Rio Ferdinand on the ass, he would still have great resale value considering his age and talent.

As one who has expressed concern over Suarez's behavioral issues I should make it clear I would have no problem with him biting Rio Ferdinand.

That said, while I still have major reservations about pursuing this guy his price tag - assuming it's in the 35 million range - is not one of them. Using the Cazorla purchase as a guideline to future transactions will lead quickly to disappointment and a shortage of top class players. To address phato's point head on: if the "Arsenal scale" does not change, get ready for another 3rd or 4th place finish.

The Cazorla signing was a brilliant piece of business. Just remember that Malaga were in a world of financial trouble when they made that deal which I think played a part in us getting him below market value. Two strange things have happened since then: Malaga went further in the CL last year than we did and now they've been booted from the CL this season due to their continued financial struggles.
