Looks like Suarez wants to have a meeting with us after being told directly by Pool that we offered 40 mil for him. I tend to put a little more belief in what the BBC says than alot of those rags in England.

Seriously.

What are ppl at the Emirates smoking here?

I cannot understand us going for a player who has such a baggage.
I mean look at this disciplinary guy's record.

Eight matches ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra. One match for making an obscene gesture at Fulham fans. Ten games (six games ban served into the new season) for biting Branislav Ivanovic. And of course he arrived at Liverpool on the back of another biting incident at Ajax which earned him a seven-game ban.

The way we do business, this is such a serious deviation from the norm. Something is not adding up to all this public bidding.

I dont understand why we did not bid for Higuain, who is a much stable character than Suarez. Now Higuain is going to Roma and with the new found cash, what if Madrid come calling.

The grass is greener for Suarez. He will ditch our offer and leave for Madrid.

Then what? Who are the other targets?

I have a bad feeling bout this and we will have an egg on our faces.
I hope not.

I have no doubt that Suarez positives outweighs his negatives, and I think Wenger,Gazidis,Kroenke and most of the Arsenal staff in charge of this negotiation think so too. Yes he has bitten before that does not mean he'll be doing it every season, last season he was playing in an average liverpool side so it's easy to get frustrated and do something silly. If you are playing in a top 4 team you won't be as frustrated as a team that's struggling to break into the top 6. So I feel confident that he would behaviour would improve at Arsenal.

The only problem is we won't get him unless we offer liverpool something ridiculous like over £50m, close to what PSG paid for cavani. Who let's be honest is probably just on the same level as suarez.

Those execs at The Emirates can likely afford to import the good shit from my neck of the woods, so if they are indeed smokin', it's the chronic.

It's all about potential return on investment mate, and Arsenal will likely be able to recoup their investment regardless of how the Suarez Arsenal saga turns out. His rap sheet may be reprehensible by most standards of conduct, but if after two teething incidents and a spewing of racial abuse, the fella will still fetch over 40 mil on the open market. But Arsenal will be betting upon and insisting upon (through personal conduct clauses in his contract) a Suarez dedicated to self improvement who will embrace the opportunity handed to him by keeping himself on the pitch.

If he is acquired, my bet is that we've seen the last of Count Luis, and adding him to the mix in the attack will see players like The Ox and Wilshere able to take their games to the next level and Arsenal to the top of the Prem.

I personally believe that if what they say about our bid for Suarez is true, we have crossed the point of just signing a player to the point where we are making the signing more as a statement that we actually spent the money that Arsenal fans have been calling on the club to spend for a long time. On the other hand it might just be that we have too much money and have no idea how to go about spending it. In either case I would be incredibly upset since we spent years penny pinching, having a player like Almunia in goal, signing a player like Silvestre which was clearly a financial move, the list goes on and on where we just tried to squeeze a penny here and there. If we did all that to save money and then blow it on an a-hole like Suarez, I would have a very difficult time forgiving the club.

If Suarez leads Arsenal back to the top of the Prem, will you forgive your club then?

Suarez is so brilliant that he has been a prolific scorer at a club like Liverpool. Put him in the advanced class at Arsenal, and there will be a ripple effect that lifts everyone's play. If he is signed and somehow disgraces the shirt of our club, I will be the first to acknowledge that your disapproval was certainly merited.

I believe 40 mil is about the going rate for Suarez so we're attempting to pay what his approximate value is, warts and all. The fact that we're not trying to pinch a penny here is such a deviation from the norm that it could appear at first glance that we're making a statement signing when in reality we may be finally willing and able to spend some real money.

Good question! JODB.
I don't understand why phato is almost certain that this signing would be a disaster.

I know I'm gonna be cheering if he's banging in goals for us. I had no problems cheering for Michael Vick when he was winning games for the Eagles.

I would go along with a lot of what you said. In fact Suarez could be the mother of all panic buys if the motives of just spending money to placate armchair fans is correct.

I am against this move. I hope it doesn't happen. I'm ok with the valuation of 40 million if the buyer is Real Madrid, but not another EPL club where he will bring extremely bad press, all of it earned.

Apart from all the attitude, discipline, professionalism and suspension risk issues you can stack there is also the issue of his "fit" with the Arsenal team. Our vacancy is for a central striker playing on his own. I don't put Suarez in that category.
