I am not going to sit here and pretend that Eboue was a consistent player just because he was a "nice guy", he was one of the most frustrating players I have ever seen. I think lack of discipline was Eboue's biggest problem, most teams that played us would make sure that they attack down our right flank because he was such a glaring weakness in the back four. For most of the games he was an accident waiting to happen.
Why was he played in midfield? Well that is as good a question as any. I think lack of proper squad depth had something to do with that.
When we finally sold him I actually thought that although it was a couple seasons over due the timing was poor because we had inadequate back up for Sagna but I now believe that Jenkinson, who obviously benefited the most from the sale, has come along quite well despite his recent brain fart in the Emirates Cup.

I know you probably won't agree but after two games I had decided Jenkinson was a better player. Jenkinson profited by being a better defender, even if a little sheepish when trying to help the attack.
Now, the answer to the question about why he was tried in midfield was that Wenger had given up on him being a fullback based on his weakness of judgement in defending and the purchase of a better player - Sagna. I know Jays won't allow that one past without contradiction. The connected issue was that we had little or no money at that stage. We bought for other areas of the team and we got stuck trying flesh out the reserve players in the squad. We were short, we were desperate and Eboué had no suitors so we used him.

Nothing to really disagree with here. I don't disagree with everything you post Santry. It's a solid point that's understandable considering the circumstances on the time. AW had to roll the dice with him in midfield due to limited options and Eboue crapped out spectacularly. It happens. Necessity can sometimes force you to make some ill-advises and unwanted choices.

I'm shocked, that seems like a rarity.
Anyway, Eboué got a lot more time at Arsenal because of our difficulty. If it wasnt for the experiment of putting him in midfield he would have been shipped out 2/3 years earlier as he wasn't cutting it aas a fullback, even a half-decent reserve fullback. I actually think Eboué was aware that he got a good ride out of Arsenal, longer than a lot of others ever did considering his ability. The proof of that was in his comment as PR Galatasary captain when he said "Arsenal were very good to me". At least.. I think that's what he said.

They even gave him a long-term deal early in 2011 even after all the abuse he was getting from the fans. Then shipped his ass out after we got Gervinho a few months later.

I disliked Eboue for his diving, he was , & still is, one of the worst culprits around, but if the current Arsenal players could match his enthusiasm & drive I feel that Arsenal would be a better team I remember watching he & Kolo & admiring the passion in their play
Both are older now & its hard to keep that kind of fire burning, but as a none Arsenal supporter, I greatly admired these 2 players
Bog just trolling for cheap heat here with the love for Eboue and Kolo. LOL
He's at the head of a queue I suppose, some in earnest and some in jest. trolling ?
I call him out for being a diver but praise his passion
You 2 have strange ideas on what trolling is & obviously never watched Eboue & Kolo around a decade ago

seriously jays, I always admired those 2, they looked like they were fed raw meat & whipped into a frenzy before the game & their best form coincided with Arsenals better years, I ma not saying it was down to them, but I think the energy & passion they played with was contagious
