This is probably a better draw than PSV and Sociedad. I trust that we will prevail. Agreed with VA, I would take a draw in Istanbul. We should beat them at home.

Its an absolute caludron playing at Fenerbache. The fans are beyond rabid. Any type of scoring draw would be a good result.

Good news is that we have won there before. A 5-2 victory in the group stages a few years ago. Yeah we had King Diaby playing in that advanced midfield role. But still its a terrible draw.

Champions League play-off round:
Dinamo Zagreb (Cro) v Austria Vienna (Aut) Ludogorets (Bul) v Basle (Swi) Plzen (Cze) v Maribor (Slo) Shakhtyor Karaganda (Kaz) v Celtic Steaua Bucharest (Rom) v Legia Warsaw (Pol) Lyon (Fra) v Real Sociedad (Spa) Schalke 04 (Ger) v Metalist Kharkiv (Ukr) Pacos Ferreira (Por) v Zenit St Petersburg (Rus) PSV (Ned) v AC Milan (Ita) Fenerbahce (Tur) v Arsenal
Poor Celtic have to go all the way to Khazakhaztan - Borat land PSV vs AC Milan along with our game should have taken place in the group stages rather than the playoffs. Lyon (Fra) v Real Sociedad (Spa) too.

I just dont understand this
In our draw we might face any one of these teams Real Sociedad, Pacos de Ferreira, PSV Eindhoven, Fenerbahce or Metalist Kharkiv in the two-legged tie.
Celtic can meet any one of Austria Vienna, Legia Warsaw, Maribor, Ludogorets Razgrad or Shakhter Karagandy.
Celtic's opponents seem looks easier as compared to ours!
I wonder why we are paired with the tougher bunch and why are Celtic in a separate section. Beats me.
Celtics won their league so they are in the champions pot. Arsenal are in the non champions route.
ah! Thanx for clarifying - Dream. Stupid rule by UEFA. This could ensure big teams could crash out in the play off stage itself. And that would not be good for the profile of the group stages. I mean UEFA would prefer having - PSV Eindhoven, Fenerbahce, Sociadad rather than Ludogorets Razgrad or Shakhter Karagandy in the group stage They will realize that and change the rule next year
Except that they changed it TO this setup a few years back to try and give the champions of lesser leagues a fairer shake rather than making the group stage a who's who of the big 4 leagues.
And quite right too. The competition needs to keep a semblance of its origin as the European Cup. There's nothing stupid about treating fourth and first place finishers differently in that context. The stupidity of this rule by UEFA will become apparent when u will have mismatches in the group stages and thus making the group stages boring. Imagine Barca hammering the Ludogorets Razgrad 12 -0 or something.
Id rather have a competitive group stage than a fair/boring one.

There's some logic to your argument but I can't get too worked up about it when it's made on behalf of a fourth place team (whether Arsenal or anyone else). If it were up to me, fourth place teams wouldn't even qualify, regardless of where they play.
This is, after all, the Champions League. If champions are not to be given some preference, change the name and then let's talk about whether we should start incorporating strength-of-schedule type thinking in the seedings.

Champions from every European country should qualify automatically & the rest should play off. You should thank your lucky stars that finishing 4th is good enough to get you in the CL rather than complaining how tough your competition is
At least thats how everybody here views the World Cup qualification system

UEFA loses money that way, FIFA does not, got it? So as I said in previous World Cup thread, its not about globalising football, its all about money
Got it
