This is not really OT, as I am merely using this to back up my point that action speaks louder than voice especially when it comes to racism. Although there was no use of the n-word there like Suarez, personally I'll feel more insulted if a shop assistant refuses to show me a bag that I'm interested in buying in a shop because of my skin colour.

I liked the shop owner's response:
"Ms Goetz, who is believed to have also attended Tina Turner's wedding, said there had been a "misunderstanding" caused by the assistant's failure to recognise Winfrey." "We don't have any facial recognition here,"

LOL

Have to say I wish this had happened to someone else so I could take it more seriously. With apologies to Oprah's many fans on this board, a significant part of me thinks what really upset her was the thought that someone, somewhere on planet earth didn't recognize and admire her.

This is likely true.

And let's be honest. It was more likely sexism than racism. Everybody knows that women are incapable of making that sort of money. The shop owner probably asked if her husband knew she had left the kitchen and was spending all his money.

*Note for those who think I'm serious: the above is sarcasm and in no way represents my actual views on women. I actually think they are fantastic, intelligent beings who actually exist for more than my ogling pleasure.

As the husband, father, brother and son of some of those fantastic women, I have to say I laughed my head off at your contribution here.

:D
Thanks, DSCH. I am also a husband, father, son, and brother to some beautiful, intelligent, funny, and strong women (well, my daughter is still a little girl, but still). I'll throw grandson in there, too.

I hope I didn't offend anyone. And that includes the original poster, too, for making light of the topic. It's just that I'm about Suarezed out. I think my post in another thread just about sums up where I'm at.
