I hope everyone reads this. It's clearly a fan's perspective, but he's done his homework and reminds us that nothing is as simple as a lot of us would wish. Still, if I had to pick one quote to summarize things: "Arsenal may not have quite enough funds to buy in Harrods, but they could comfortably afford to shop in Waitrose, instead of wasting time haggling in Aldi." Generally speaking, companies with large cash reserves get punished in the stock market. Absent unusual economic conditions, investors will always want to see that cash used (i.e., invested) to generate greater returns. Time to stop sitting on our pile. |

Assuming people actually take the time to read it, there should be a number of popular, yet incorrect, opinions put to rest. Namely, 1) Arsenal did not need to sell to balance the books 2) Because we always had to sell, we could not afford to buy better players than we did 3) The board is "lining their pockets" (see the part about no dividends being paid...yet) 4) The extra money is being used to pay off the stadium debt early 5) This one is a bit more inferred, but Wenger is not the one in charge of our lack of player acquisitions And DSCH, the line you quoted also stuck out to me. This lines up with point 2 above, and is especially relevant now in light of the new sponsorship deals. Wenger at least seems to be walking the walk by going after Suarez, but the extremely cynical will be able to say that it was only a ruse if we don't bring somebody home. |

To extend the analogy, window shopping at Harrods does us no good at all. |

I have said it time and time again, Arsenal should have scouted and found 2-3 players in the 20-25 mil pound range to sign. I believe with proper scouting and making the right type of signings, a 25mil pound player today could be a 50-100mil pound player a few years down the road. Arsenal right now are like a guy that has a beat down car, runs into some money and decides to buy the latest Benz, limited edition when a Toyota Camry would suffice. Right now there is no Benz and he is stuck with a beat down car. The idea that a club that has been working wonders spending 12-15mil on players can't do better if we could spend twice that on players made no sense to me. We were looking for the home run and that has left is with nothing. |

Phato, interesting analogy, but to Le Boss' defense, I suspect he won't buy the Camry because he can build [groom] his own? Arguably, a camry is less sophisticated than the latest benz, just sayin'? What we know though (for certain) is AW hasn't even bought a Benz, he has bought too many Camrys that never managed to excite anybody! |

We don't have enough Camry's right now. Manchester United are a team of Camry's with one or two Benzes. We have had Benzes in the past and not won anything. I can understand the clamor for a Benz because for the first time in a long time we really don't have that Benz in the team but a Benz is not going to take us to our destination alone. At this rate we would end up with nothing if we are only focused on buying a Benz. |

I'm of the opinion that presently he's looking at creating some balance in the team. Agreed, we don't have enough camrys but there is some in the garage. Not much excitement there. What's lacking is a Benz just to let the neighbors know we belong! |

As far as back as 2005, former chief executive Keith Edelman observed, “There are sufficient funds available to the manger for transfers”, before upping the ante a couple of years later, “We have got plenty of financial firepower to make the transfers Arsène wants to make. We had over £70 million of cash at the end of the year and if Arsène wants to spend that money, we will make it available.” Cruyff, you remember when I told that this is not the first that an Arsenal executive has indicated that he club could spend up to 70 mil in the transfer market if they chose to? |
