Apparently Gourcuff is willing to take a pay cut to join Arsenal, this is a player who was once one of the most promising young attacking midfielders in Europe, however, he has been a disappointment. Is he worth the risk?

Can Le Boss get the best out of him? Note that we just let Gervinho move on - another once promising player from that league.

The guy is 27 and may be eager to impress, which could work in our favor but relatively speaking I guess the quantum of the pay cut envisaged versus his past promise is really what we will make the purchase worthwhile. I mean if we are going to get say 2 quality performances from him while paying him roughly about 80-85% of Gervinho's wages, deal!

I really can't see this signing hurting us, he does have serious fitness problems but I imagine that should not be an issue with proper rotation among Santi, Arteta, Rosicky, Wilshire, Ramsey, etc. I would be extremely satisfied if we managed to sign both Gustavo and Gourcuff as it would significantly improve our midfield.

I don't know. I really wanted him before he moved to Lyon, and was even willing to take a punt on him two years ago, but I just don't see how he gets much playing time at all now. I guess he'd be good for depth, but if he can't cut at Lyon, how could he make it with us?

Tough call I think, without knowing more. First - how much of a pay cut? He's earning over 90,000 euros/week right now - roughly 80,000 pounds. Second - is he willing to contribute as a squad player (because that's what he'll be at the outset)? If those get answered the right way, and he can accept some performance metrics in his contract, then OK, bring him on board.

We need to be circumspect. The lone "success" of our transfer season thus far has been to offload lesser contributors and I'd hate to see us turn around and add another at this point.

Pass.

Never done anything outside of the French league and even there he's been inconsistent. Seems to be a rumor about him coming to Arsenal at least once a season. Can't see what use we'd have for him.

No thanks. He's the highest paid player in the french league and played just over 50 games in 3 seasons with Lyon.We already have our fair share of permacrocks.

Last time I saw him play he was whistled off the pitch in a friendly for France, pretty sure his form has been woeful since leaving Bordeaux

Although he did score one of the best goals I've ever seen
