You only let him go if you're bringing in someone else to replace him. |

No way Wenger would let him go mid-season. Unless someone gets injured it looks like our captain will be riding the pine come next summer. |

I would imagine that the fact that he didn't feature in Belgium's last match (and others?) has heightened his sense of urgency with Brazil 2014 approaching. But the priorities of the club must come before the priorities of the player in this instance, and he'll likely have to stay put and wait for his opportunity to once again impress. |

Between a rock and a hard place this year for Vermaelen, I think. Wish Wenger would give him a look in every now and then, but barring injury, how does a guy get back in the lineup under Arsene when the first choice pairing are doing well? |

exactly dsch, impossible 4 manager to change winning team-verm gotta sit & chill till chance comes. defence much more than other positions requires continuity to catapault chemistry. thinking capt. verm aint ever recovered form of 1st 18 months at emirates- everything since is gradual downhill-though 2 b fair, injury suffered could be hampering class & form. baring injury, loss of form or suspension 2 kos or merts- he should stay stuck on bench. if he gotto go, he gotto go.......just buy better replacement wenger. Funny how a certain poster thinks verm is better than Kolo EVER was for arsenal even during the invincibles period. Anyways that's a discussion for another day. I think very soon the fixture list would pile up, and verm we get his chance when either kos or per needs a break. And you never know with kosc he'll pick up a few yellows and reds along the way and will get suspended at some point. That's the best verm can hope for at this point. |

I have no problems letting him go even if we have no replacements. Of course, I would feel differently if he was to be played in a slightly advanced role. But that too looks very unlikely now given the re-signing of Flamini. ... and with Brazil around the corner, I think it's best to let him maximize his chances while playing elsewhere. He saved us well when he could and since the WC comes 4 big years after plus how short the life of a footballer is, I think the club should be considerate. |

So you'd be fine rolling with no natural back-up CBs? Doesn't sound like a recipe for success. |

TV has never been a recipe for success! So, if "success" is really your concern other than maybe just fulfilling games, surely we have no need for TV... |
