Mexico seem like they have deep problems, but honestly do US soccer fans sell their souls to the devil so easily that they would like to see their team shamefully throw a match? This explains a lot. Cruyff is spot on here, the better thing is to see your rivals fail on their own account.

The extrapolation of one fan's remarks to a general statement about US soccer fans might be similarly revealing. If one were to make such a leap.
..if.. By Rudyard Kipling

or

...if... The legendary reply by Laconia to the Persians.

I'm not gonna say the majority of US fans wanted the US to tank those last few minutes against Panama to screw Mexico. I know that I'm way in the fringe minority on this one.

Be honest Santry, wouldn't you at least crack a little smile if Ireland took the air out the ball in the last few minutes of a WC qualifier against a team if you knew it would keep France out? Just a little payback for the Henry handball?

Two things first:
1) Fuck Mexico*. No, seriously. Mexican soccer can fuck itself. Diving, cheating, dirty thugs. And their fans. Despicable, urine/bottle/crack throwing donkeys that they are.
2) I really feel badly for the Panamanians. Players and fans alike.

That said, CONCACAF needs Mexico in the WC. Realistically, they're the only other team (besides the USA) that has a chance to get out of the group. Plus, the ramifications down the road for Mexico are huge (financial, competitive, etc). As appealing as it sounds to be able to kick them around for the next 'x' years, it's bad for the US and bad for the federation if there is only one decent team in the region.

*Just anything to do with the Mexican national team.

A man after my own heart rw. LOL

Honestly, I don't know how the hell we have 3 automatic spots to begin with, plus a 4th in a playoff in CONCACAF. We really should have 2 auto and a playoff spot. We play in a very weak group of teams. Guess there was an upside to having a slimeball like Jack Warner running our federation for so long. The guy must have been lining someone's pockets to get us that many spots in the WC.

Well, they may be Despicable, urine/bottle/crack throwing donkeys, but at least they don't stab each other after matches like American fans.

Why cant CONCACAF and CONMEBOL combine and play the qualifiers. Have multiple groups like Euro or Asia.
Thus u get to compete against the top sides and improve.

Right now its a piece of cake for the USA to qualify.

Even Cope Liberatedores must be played over the entire new World (North and South). Will be so much more fun.

So today was the first time playing with my Mexicano mates since Tuesday's dramatics, and I received a hero's welcome as if I had scored both stoppage time goals myself. I had one guy bowing to me and another claiming that he had given up on his native Mexican side in favor of los Estados Unidos. I even received a brief "USA, USA!" chant. I also have promises of several twelve packs on Sunday (which I will benevolently share).

Hopefully, the goodwill lasts through the holiday season so I can get some tamales out of this.

Actually Joe, they do stab each other at soccer matches in Mexico. Lots more shenenigans go on too.
