Look who agrees with me that Mexico wouldn't have done the same thing we did to save their asses.

Your speculation as to what Mexico may have done in a reverse role is that of a USA fanatic. That opinion expressed by a player like Donovan though should be taken as an insult by the Mexican side.

That's an outlandish thing for a player to say, and if the roles were reversed, we'd all agree that it was.
Stark contrast to the classy remarks made by Klinsmann in the video on that link. I still struggle to understand jays's animosity toward him.

And, at the risk of being repetitive, who gives a shit what the Mexican team would have done? To paraphrase Jurgen, we play the opponent and we play to win the game.

I just think Klinsmann is a fraud as a manager. I still go back to when Lahm blasted him as being completely inept as a tactician when he managed Bayern. They couldn't get him out the door fast enough there. It was also Low that really ran the German team in the WC in 2006.

Many US players echoed Lahm's comments when Klinsmann Initially took over the US job. Maybe he's learned some things since.

I actually don't think Donovan's comments were that bad. He generalized the comment by talking about how other countries (outside of the US/Mexico rivalry) would also do the same. Regardless, I don't have a problem with our boys doing it. They are fighting for roster (or starting) spots next summer. And it always feels better to win rather than to lose, even if it helps out a rival. Of course, ask me if I feel the same in May if a win by Arsenal (that would have no bearing on Arsenal's table position) would help Spurs out!

That he used a shotgun rather than a sniper's rifle makes Donovan's remarks no less outlandish (outlandonish?). He merely insults the honor of more unnamed nations like he does that of Mexico. He is contending that the US team is morally superior from a competitive standpoint than those countries, and that is purely speculative BS that could only be construed as insulting.

If the tables were turned, I'd be demanding an apology or looking for a nice chunk of my opponent the next time I got a chance.

I guess I can understand the sentiment. On the flip side, I can also see how someone has actually gone looking for bulletin board material.

Sometimes it's a mistake to judge others by my own standards, but I would bet that the competitive spirit of the vast majority of professional footballers is at least the equal of mine. I play to win for every second of even a pick-up game. If my dear mother was back in defense and took an extra touch, I would pounce on it to teach her a lesson about hanging onto the ball too long.

If it is bulletin board material, then it is certainly deservedly so.
