Michu is the answer to this question: how to increase squad depth at centre forward. Michu is not the answer to this question: how to improve on Giroud. The biggest name in the upcoming transfer window will be Lewandowski. I think we just about have the money. That doesn't mean our lack of practise at transfers won't be a factor. Wenger will either sign him or an equivalent player, or not sign anyone at all. |

Lewandowski would be an unbelievable signing. How much he would cost is a matter of debate. On the face of it, he should go for at least what Ozil did. However, he is out of contract and has made it known he's leaving Dortmund after this season much like RVP did with us and we certainly didn't get all that we should've for him because of that. The biggest factor in not getting him is his apparent desire to stay in Germany and go to Bayern. That move seemed a forgone conclusion for awhile now. There was even talk of him already agreeing to a preliminary deal to go there. Recent reports from the player himself say that's not the case though so there is a chance. If Lewandowski expresses a desire to play somewhere else than we have to investigate that. If a bidding war for him starts, than who knows how high the price could end up. With our apparent ability to spend bigger than we ever had, we would be competitive but still not to the point of the usual oil-money suspects in our league. You can easily see Roman cleaning up Chelsea's mess at striker with one enormous bid on him that we wouldn't be able to match. Our own position in the table would play a big part of it. If we're still flying high at the top of the league it would certainly make us more desirable. One big downside is that he's already cup tied to Dortmund so he couldn't be used in the CL for us. |

Lewandowski - wow that name blows every other one out there! Cant outbid him, if the money bags enter the fray or even Bayern want him. |

No question that Bayern wants him but if it came down to strictly a bidding war, then like us, they will lose to Chelsea or Man City. |

If its Bayern vs City - Why would Lewandowski choose City. Dint u see how Bayern annihilated Citeh in the Etihad? He would prefer to go to Bayern - the top club in the world than City. If Bayern wants him, no bidding war is necessary. Players now prefer Bayern, just like a lot of them think that playing for Madrid, Barca would the ultimate. Point is if its Bayern against us, we can forget bout him joining us. If its the money bags vs us, we have a chance, provided the player uses his head and joins us instead of going for the cash (like Ozil). Edited by KamyFC, Oct 17 2013, 07:22 AM.

Don't know if Michu is what we need. He's more of a Bergkamp in his positioning, as Wenger said. He's more of a second striker. He plays the way RvP used to be until Wenger turned him into more of a penalty box striker. His style is to arrive late in the box to score goals. We already have players who can create from outside the box, and players who can make those runs from deep to score. Do we need more of that? That's why I like Giroud right now because offers us something different. His qualities are a good complement to the nippy midfielders around him. He does the donkey work, creates space for them, gets them involved by holding up the ball, and then even makes those near post runs when the ball's out wide. Michu wouldn't give us those things. Not that I mean we need to have two strikers who are exactly alike, it's good to have a bit of variety, but seeing how the team is working so well right now I'd like a striker who is more of a traditional no.9. Benzema is also like Michu in his positioning and movement but he's certainly more of a proper striker than the latter. Not as much of a hard worker as Giroud but he'll replicate some of his qualities and offer a more technical threat up front. But Wenger will have to sort out his form. |

There's something about Michu's mental makeup that I just love. A very hard-working player. I also like him because he offers something different from Giroud. Michu is a bit more of a second striker but I think he would be a good fit leading the line at Arsenal, where players are asked to do the simple things required of CFs but also to link up play and act as a decoy. Benzema is world class when on form but I worry about his temperament. Also, do we want to have two strikers competing for the same spot in their club and national teams? I would welcome Michu. Lewandoski is simply not coming to Arsenal. We won't get into bidding war for his services. I wish we could have gotten Ba on loan or signed him for 7 mil when he was at Newcastle. |

Re: Lewandowski, you'd have said the same thing about Ozil. |
